Was Arkham Shadow "Unfinished"?

imo, if the story feels complete, and it's a playable and enjoyable experience, it can be considered a finished game. SM2 was unfinished not just bc of NG+, but also bc a lot of people felt like the story sucked and was heavily cut short, but most people don't feel that way with Shadow CP77 was unfinished bc it was completely unplayable, though as we've seen with the eventual updates and big fixes, the story wasn't nearly as hated on.

Spider-Man 2 is one of the craziest cases for me because I pre-ordered the game, spent $100, platinumed it in a week and never touched it again, even when they did finally release NG+ which should've been up at launch given how much time they had to work on the game and just the anticipation really, they should've made every second of attention count and they simply didn't, now theres a PC port on the way and still nobody cares, game was heavily unfinished and messy even despite it running perfectly fine without any major bugs, it still shocks me when people say the Insomniac series of Spider-Man games are on par with the Arkham franchise, they will never be LMFAO

@@Jacorywoohoo I completely agree. I got the 19 inches of Venom edition, and played through it once, and have never really played it again. Idk why this game has so much less replay value to me, because I enjoy the story for the most part, but I still never feel the need to replay it.

I agree for the most part. Hindsight also plays a role with sequels. Like I was going to mention how Spider-Man 2 didn’t release with new game plus, but the first game didn’t actually release with new game plus either. I do still think there are situations where this criticism is valid due to a precedent set by a previous game in the series or genre.

8:04 it’s feels more finished than most AAA games these days. The only real problem I came across when playing were a few crashes at the final level but that’s all fixed now so not a complete deal breaker.

About the soundtrack, he was saying it needs to be mixed for listening. The music was edited to be heard in a vr headset but it’s differently done for streaming. Like how a surround sound movie has to be edited

are you new to VR? welcome to our bustling little niche town full of minigames and short tech demos - we rarely get something as big as Arkham Shadow, so any jank is often overlooked. Tbh, even on flatland most games since Assassin's Creed Unity have now a long history of pretty broken releases, so I don't blame them. what's important is that it's in better shape than ever. Also, I'm glad I don't rush through games, so never noticed most of the broken stuff. The game never even crashed here, tho they mention lots of crash fixes.

@@BuryTheLight-tds I consider Arkham origins Arkham, black gate and shadow a different part of the Arkham universe this way too many story inconsistencies like Barbara being so young and origins deathstroke saying that it’s been over a decade since they last met Gotham even though Arkham origins is supposed to take place eight years before asylum not a decade and the appearance of soulman Grundy in blackgate I think certain story beats of Arkham origins can be considered canon like firefly but since the game was made by the original rocksteady team, I don’t consider most of it canon so I like to see it is its own thing

I think some of those features that was in the roadmap wasn’t gonna happen until the community asked Camouflaj for them so that’s why its didn’t came out on launch which I respect Camouflaj listening to the fans and stuff

I think gameplay wise it's not full on unfinished so much as it was released with only the core things without much of the extra. It's a simpler day one release, that will be updated through patches to get more of the extra content that's to be expected of a full fledged modern release. To me, unfinished is when something is buggy or unsatisfying. The game works well for the most part and is very satisfying to play, so at worse I'd say the initial release is stripped down but only because the modern function of title updates post release allows for that more than having to force a game out and risk ambitious ideas worsening the polish.

It's not unfinished because every game I currently own gets updates. Bugs are usually found post launch by players because they will invariably play the game in lots of different way, some people actively attempt to break a game and then complain it's buggy. Saw a guy do this recently with Half Life Alyx and he got so much stick for it as he'd clearly used mods to go outside the normal playing area.

@@acurisur I frequently fell through the floor because entire sections of the level didn't load. The kinds of bugs this game had a launch aren't the kind you wouldn't find during regular playtesting of the game. It's obvious Camoflaj just ran out of time to address these things, and I think what they put out was more than worth the money, but it absolutely 100% needed more time in the oven.

Of course the game is finished, these updates are mostly extra content for players who have finished the game. Feels very much like a click bait video just because Batman Arkham Shadow is a big deal right now.

Love the game, but I do think it needed a couple extra months to iron out the issues and finalize it. I miss the days where a game was FINISHED at launch. Like PS2 era. Whatever way the game shipped was the way it was gonna STAY.

Well I was playing Batman Arkham shadow I think in the first chapter it was a hostage situation and I think I want too fast the npc thought I wasn’t 2 feet in front of them then I punched him he t posed then I crashed 😂

Speedruning this game is HORRIBLE crashes atleast 8-10 times during a run also skipping cutscenes takes forever sometimes even longer than the cutscene itself. This game is too ram heavy, the chipset can handle it but it keeps too many assets/map areas loaded at once. It needs some more heavy optimization maybe even give it the Bonelab treatment where lower Rez models and textures are used when not in the players sight, but have it be able to be toggled on/off of course. When it’s working perfectly it’s probably the most smooth and fun to speedrun vr game I’ve played in a long time

I once got a crash in the area where carmine falcone was when i grabbed my smoke bomb and i had to restart the entire system but after a update a day later i was fine the bugs i have been getting are like 2 seconds of audio clipping out and the occasional lag

Here’s what the devs said when asked why Harvey didn’t get a fight. “when you zoom out on the story and see where Batman is as a character at the beginning of Batman: Arkham Shadow and you see where he's ending, I'm actually really proud of the fact that players confront the big bad guy at the end and Batman doesn't throw a punch."
