As a road examiner, I was polite but direct unless the situation was dangerous to the point of prison as a possibility, in which case I was blunt. (Had someone drive the wrong way in a construction zone. If they hit a worker, prison.) Doesn’t help anyone if they don’t know what they did wrong. If someone tried to intimidate me, I just withdrew and took the next hour to write every last detail of the test. Bosses backed me every time I had to resort to writing a narrative.

As a retired flight examiner, I found this video quite interesting. My takeaway was that Samir needs considerably more time to establish a better relationship a) with the vehicle and its controls and b) with general situational awareness. Good debrief. I was reminded that in flight tests, younger candidates had flexibility in their aircraft handling and listened to debrief items. Older candidates tended to be more anxious and tense and often would not react positively to constructive suggestions as to how to improve.

He drives like a Romanian. There's a certain expectation that you will be able to drive and know most of what you need to know about cars by the time you're 18 if you're a man. Some people are surprised or even disappointed if you don't have a license by 20. Cars are a national cult in Romania, and probably generally in eastern Europe. Looking at him i just know he felt some of that pressure and it's probably why he took the risk of driving without a license back home. Feeling that peer pressure makes you rush a little and skip the learning process, you forget you're a learner and act like you already have 5 years experience minimum. It's why i needed 10 extra hours of driving just to stop rushing as if some Bucharest taxi driver would honk me for whatever reason.

Nice to see other country's driving teaching and driving tests. In my country they don't even teach the handbrake hill start anymore, they say: "House moms from the 70'S drive like that." They teach us exactly that same method Samir is using. Brake and clutch down - clutch to bite, as to the point where the car would hold without the brakes - add gas smoothly. wait, I thought not checking blindspot at all after emergency stop is an instant fail (serious fault)? Checking just one side is minor but he didn't check any
@ConquerDriving3 ай бұрын
If not checking lead to a serious issue then it would be a serious mark. He got lucky on this occasion.
@windroid_user3 ай бұрын
Personally I don't agree with it being a fail because it doesn't feel like a genuine emergency stop when you've been instructed to do so under safe conditions; when the road is clear. And in your normal driving position it feels like a normal traffic stop when moving off if that makes sense. But yes I believe it's a fail because you're meant to act as if it's an emergency scenario. Same with observations when reversing in an empty carpark you've just entered (imagine busy carpark). Edit: Richard has responded above me as I was typing this reply, keep in mind not every examiner is the same as he said in the vid. I basically failed for going the wrong way for example.. (reply if u wanna know more)
@user-mv5zt8qd9l3 ай бұрын
@windroid_user It's not uncommon for another person to show up either from round the corner or out a side entrance when you've done an emergency stop. That's why it's important to check still. Empty car parks have their own host of possible dangers in comparison to busy areas: it's more common for other drivers to cut through bays (and to do so at higher speed). In a similar vein, driving at night might be quiet, but the people you do encounter are often going faster and likely are more tired and unengaged with safe driving.
@windroid_user3 ай бұрын
@@user-mv5zt8qd9l For sure, FYI I am imagining a nice visible straight road with no nearby junctions & side entrances for the emergency stop. And driving to the back of an empty car park where you carry out the reverse park exercise against a fence/hedge shortly after stopping (so you'd be checking behind at an area you saw while going forward a few moments ago). In both those scenarios you could say the risk is quite low, but in no way am I saying or ignoring the fact that there's NO risk and that it's not worth checking by doing proper observations.

It's an interesting point where you thought he hadn't looked when he had. When I was learning and for my test, I made all my observations much more obvious than they would appear now because if the examiner didn't see it, it didn't happen. I normally wear sunglasses for driving but didn't for my test so that the examiner would be able to tell that I was looking in my mirrors. Move your head, not just your eyes and make sure you're looking early enough to be able to comfortably react to what you might see!
@ConquerDriving3 ай бұрын
The point was he didn't look before he was committed to entering due to his speed. So although he looked before crossing the line, he didn't look before he could no longer stop safely by the line. I can't remember every detail but I do know his check was not sufficient at the mini roundabout and that's the mental note I made.
@SeanVlismas3 ай бұрын

@@ConquerDriving I point out to my learners that when the roundabout is open ahead with no potential blockers approaching, you need more consideration to the right because vehicles to the right won't be planning to stop. You get this a lot at T-junction mini roundabouts. To the learner it looks open but the danger is what you cannot see to the right until you're almost on the roundabout, which is why we need to slow down so much before deciding to proceed.

14:36 Don't agree that this is a minor fault. He had an HGV oncoming that was provably 2 feet away from the centre line and when he pulled out you can clearly see his car has to straddle the lanes, if anything he's further over the other of the road. That would mean an extremely limited space on both sides of his car while passing the lorry and I think a minor for his positioning prior to this or waiting is unnecessary. Even with the cars, they have to hug the kerb as they pass when he pulls out. Ideally you want to leave a metre of room between parked cars and your car and not have to encroach onto opposite lanes.

Man, banning someone from having a license because he drove without one is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. If someone wants to drive for whatever reason, he will. Banning him from getting a license will only extend his illegal driving. Plus, depending on what he did, it would literally help if he was just given a ticket and have the car picked up by someone with license, as now he has a but of an incentive to get a license. Now if it was someone who was driving dangerously ( very high speeds, cutting people off, running red lights, etc.) Then sure, ban him from driving for a half a decade. But if he is much younger then this guy, say 16 to 19, then just ban him for 2 years. He is almost guaranteed to change so it is just idiotic to do more than that.

I'm not sure if he had taken driving lessons in Romania, but most Romanians can relate to their driving instructor telling them to only use the clutch move off from a standstill. This happened on my test too where i sped up too much before the speed limit sign, at the end she said the sign was in a stupid place but she gave me a minor mark for it, I think I was quite far over the current speed limit.

He's not Romanian. Most likley from an Arab country. Also you don't mess with the Romanian police. 😅 He may not be able to read, because he may use a different alfabet...so the people that judge him, probably never traveled further than their local town. He will eventually pass it.

Hello there! Just an observation from this video that the clutch was first pressed before the brake pedal - time @7:10 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6vSZIWGjdh6fac In my opinioin, it's safer to do the other way, brake pedal first to press slowly then clutch to change the gear. Cheers!

Romanian here, I know very well how things work in Romania. Romania has the highest traffic related death rate in Europe. Romania is a highly corrupted country. You can "buy" your driving licence, you can bribe the police with ease. You can pass the Romanian MOT for your car for as little as £30 in bribe, even if the car is missing a wheel! :))) Now, Romania drivers are probably the worst in the world, very aggresive and low skill. They constantly "show off" and try to intimidate other drivers. Dring under influence of alcohol and drugs is also very common. The roads are not maintained properly, not marked properly and full of potholes. All being said, if you can't get a driving license in Romania, drive without one, get caught and banned from driving, you probably shouldn't drive in UK... This young man embodies the very essence of the Romanian driver. Best of luck, mate, hope you have the wisdom to exceed your condition!
