The biggest problem is that the justice system is not about justice, its about everyone from lawyers to judges trying to get the most rewards out of the least amount of work to further their careers. That is why some dumb teen selling weed will get 15 years but a murderer or grapist gets 4. Easy cases get the book thrown at them, but anything else too hard but not too high profile will get the bare minimum of effort.

@@tjburr1968 so it’s ok to falsely accuse people of crimes as long as the victims get compensated later? What an ignorant comment. This POS woman absolutely ruined their lives - being falsely accused of a serious crime they didn’t do. I followed this case closely at the time. @@tjburr1968 I don’t blame them for suing. They had the expense of lawyers and this was turned into a racial issue. Black panthers and Al Sharpton were involved coming to the defense of a sista against the white college boys. Yes it was a big mess. Also there was a man that spent 20 years in prison because of the prosecutor withholding DNA evidence that would have proven his innocence. A college acquaintance of my daughter falsely accused a football player of rape. She had made herself easy for him, and when he quickly lost interest, she was out for revenge. Fortunately, her story was not credible to authorities. She never faced any punishment for trying to ruin his life, not so much as a suspension from college. Well, in my spare-time novels I've been writing, one of the antagonists is a college girl named "Crystal." - albeit, it was her "Earth name." She was an alien whose real name was "Crys" (she and her (single) mom were too lazy to come up with better Earth names). Crys also sought revenge on a boy (another alien) after he rejected her advances. Some time after her mom's revenge plan was thwarted - which resulted in the mom's death - Crys was contacted by another girl (enhanced human) who was also spurned by a former lover (regular human). Together, the two femme fatales concoct a scheme to ruin their targets' lives. - without spoiling anything, I can tell you that it won't be like "Strangers on a Train."

Then one day out of the blue she had the gaul to list me as a reference when she applied at my company. HR asked wanted my thoughts on her and I tried to warn them, but by then she had already gotten to somebody higher up, got hired and became the most toxic member of the team and eventually struck again. My heart goes out to Reginald Daye who was the ex-boyfriend murdered by Crystal and my heart goes out to the Daye family. I hope the corrupted disgraceful former prosecutor Mike Nifong, the biased Duke University administration & faculty, the gender swindlers, the ignorant protesters, the lying journalists, the lying news reporters, the lying politicians, the race swindlers, and especially the false accuser herself Crystal Mangum all deserve to be punished, shame on all of them for the damage they all caused, absolutely pure evil. The sister of a school friend of mine went to prison for wasting time after being found tied up and saying that she had been attacked. The family still believed her and I tried not to look into it, in order to just be supportive to my friend, but the case seemed to be strong. Then she was released and went on with her life, including being a house mistress in a boarding school, which surprised me.

There needs to be a national registry of false accusers. She should serve the maximum possible term for all people she falsely accused. What you are not saying is that all 40 of the men on the lacrosse team paid the price for her false accusations.

I remember the Duke Lacrosse scandal, but I had no idea the accuser was later convicted of murder. I agree that reasonable doubt probably exists, but I don't think the murder conviction was solely a matter of "revenge." I think her history of violence and lies cost her the benefit of the doubt that a jury would normally give to a defendant _without_ those histories. You could say this was a case of "the girl who cried wolf."

I followed this story very closely when it happened and I was shocked and infuriated that she never got in 1 tiny bit of trouble for destroying 3 young men’s lives as well as throwing an entire college sports team’s lives into complete turmoil. I remember Jesse Jackson said his group would support her and pay her tuition whether she was telling the truth or not. Jesse sucks too

Who would have thought a person who didn’t care if she ruined other peoples lives several times over many years would once again ruin a life. False accusers should be held accountable. It would at the very least get them off the streets and give them access to counseling for a few years. And at the most could prevent a selfish and out of control person from escalating to murder.

I lived in NC at the time of both the LaCrosse player incident and the stabbing death. The overwhelming reaction I remember at the time was not “get her for anything” but instead was, “For Pete’s sake, lock her up before she kills someone else.” There could have been injuries or deaths associated with any number of her prior behaviors - arson with @ child in the home, for example, or one of the LaCrosse players could have been attacked by a mob seeking revenge for a rape. While I hope that she’s gotten some kind of mental health treatment, she’ll be in the news again if she didn’t. I remember listening to her telling her story and thinking, “there’s a padded cell with your name on it.”

Good morning, Dr. Grande! Well, Crystal certainly lived a busy life and managed to play the legal system to perfection. It's no wonder that she was unpopular with the community in which she lived, with her false accusations and previous criminal behavior. I wonder why she didn't move to New York City, Las Vegas or Sodom and Gomorrah or some other place more amenable to her tastes and behavior. Fortunately, she'll get out of prison young enough and healthy enough to continue her habits. I think that she was convicted partly because people in her community had had enough of her, apart from being responsible for Reginald's death, that she was too dangerous a person to be allowed to run loose. Thanks for sharing.

If we started at the beginning of this sad story, Crystal herself was probably abused variously as a child and was perhaps force fed the very lack of empathy that fueled her fall. Once, in a very long while, there is payback. But, in truth, there is no justice. The behavior of some Greeks and athletes in college can be largely out of bounds, almost as if practicing for the day they will be in charge. Where in this story is there good behavior? Crystal, BF #1, BF #2, the police, the lacrosse team? The story seems a perfect post morality tale.
