I'm 71 yrs old and I have never forgotten being stalked. My girlfriend & I moved into an attic type suite that you entered up a large staircase at the back of the house, We were 21 yrs old and became so terrified of this man that we moved away to Mtl. He would purposely break in when her car wasn't there. He would leave red paint dripping on the door to look like blood, he would phone the house and have a clock ticking, he would go thru her underwear drawer and leave the panties on the bed, he was a nightmare. The cops told us to only enter the apt together. Finally it became too much; we were terrified of this man and we flew away to Montreal.......never found out who he was but I suspect he was connected to the landlord.

People generally don't even want to hear about it, much less step in and help. The cops don't do enough either. All this adds to the awfulness. I had a friend once. She was intelligent, had a great job, married with 2 kids she adored and a great personality. We met in a class and became instant friends. Then things got weird, although it took a while. She started talking about a colleague - how there was this romantic vibe between them and then later a sexual tension. She would describe - in great detail - 1-minute encounters that would take her an hour to describe. I started to doubt that her feelings were being reciprocated. We would have lunch and the entire time was taken up by her description of, in reality, inconsequential encounters as filled with meaning: there were great longings between them; eyes across the room filled with longing on both their parts. Then she started describing him describing trips with his wife; going skiing with his wife; their purchase of a country property. In my mind, I realized that she was obsessed with someone who was making it clear that he was in love with his wife, not her. One day she called me hysterical and I met her! She was acting insane. I tried to talk her down that maybe the mutual attraction was all in her head. The long point I’m making is that I didn’t know her for a long time but at first I believed there was a mutual attraction. And then all the evidence she presented were a 20-second encounter here, a glance there. Alarmingly, I had to convince her NOT to talk about her feelings to him as she thought that they were both fighting the urge to consummate their “relationship”. There was no relationship, only her obsession, I realized. When I realized this and tried to gently dissuaded from doing anything stupid that would ruin many lives like the action above, she dumped me. I never heard and from her again. Obviously she couldn’t talk to her co-workers, as Jason did: she was a high-level person in her job. I probably was the only person she could vent to. I consider myself a discerning person but I really thought, at first, that the infatuation was mutual. It was truly scary watching her obsession grow.. And even more scary when she was a brick wall when I tired to provide other theories to the man’s actions: he obviously was - gently - trying to send messages he wasn’t interested! What was worse is that she used me and I didn’t see it, at first. I learned a good lesson over that time.

Melvin smelled and played with my hair when I wasn’t looking, he would sometimes put pencils up my skirt when I was in line at school, & he always made me feel like I wasn’t safe. And we were KIDS. He always said I was his girlfriend and insisted it to the point I cried to the teacher. Long story short school ended and I never saw Melvin again. Sometimes I wonder if kids like Melvin grow up to be like Jason. The feeling I had at 8 was super scary. Idk

@@scottandrews947 Girls had to wear dresses in my generation up to high school There was a boy in elementary school who liked lying on the floor under the white ceramic children's water fountains attached to the walls in the school's hallways to look up girls' dresses. The brain is formed during critical growth periods of the developmental life span from womb to tomb. Those growth periods are most numerous during fetal and early childhood development. So, exposure to external and internal concentrations of environmental toxins, like high levels of cortisol mediating the trauma of domestic violence during and after pregnancy and child abuse and neglect have profound effects down the road. Dysfunctional epigenetic lifestyle patterns of interpersonal behavior are taught and learned across generations. So, without some kind of intervention at the individual level, a weird young kid will probably end up as a weird adult who is shunned and then isolated from his/her peers (e.g., 1994 Fairchild AFB shooter Airman Dean Mellberg). Ted Bundy is a prime example of someone who looked like a so-called "Chad" in adulthood but was absolutely not. Unfortunately, too often civilian hiring managers and military recruiters interviewing commissioned and non-commissioned job candidates confuse dark tetrad traits as indicators of self-confident leadership characteristics. The narcissistic pilot of the 1994 B52H that crashed at Fairchild AFB just days after the shooting was considered a "Chad," too.

Dr. G, would you consider covering Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar? I am interested to hear your speculations about a situation like theirs (😉) in which parents choose to save face by covering up the crimes of one child at the expense of the safety of their other children. Of course, it has come out in recent years that Josh Duggar sexually abused four of his younger sisters as well as a babysitter when he was a teenager. He was never properly punished for this crime, and his parents made the daughters publicly forgive and defend Josh to protect the family’s image as pious Christians. Edited for a typo. 👇🏽 anyone else?
@nanettevantriesteharder246911 ай бұрын
As a not so pious Christian, I am not ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16), but, as a fruit inspector of myself and my professing brothers and sisters in Christ, I am ashamed whenever it is misused (Galatians 5:22-23; 1 Corinthians 13). A personal relationship with the forgiving God of the Bible enables that forgiveness to be willingly shared by individual believers with others under the Golden Rule (John 3:16-17; Matthew 7:12). Although a person can become convicted of his or her own failure in thought, word, and deed to live up to every jot and tittle of the law (Exodus 20), which leads to an influential U-turn of repentance back to the person of the Father's face to ask for forgiveness as a prodigal son or daughter, forgiveness must be willingly shared with others and is not intended to be coerced, under free will (Luke 15 & 23:34; Mark 11:25; Acts 7). There are consequences for sin in this life, which may or may not lead to prison time. Josh Duggar is a sexual predator who, in my opinion, deserves life in prison to protect the public interests of our society. His parents should have never covered up for him.

Speaking as a former pretty girl in high school, I was hit on a lot and I can count several occasions when peers or even older coworkers (men in their twenties when I was only 16-17) were inappropriate with me and while yes it did make me uncomfortable, I was too shy to say or do anything until one day when I was at school preparing for an event our Spanish class was putting on, a boy cornered me in a closet and sexually assaulted me. To this day it haunts me. There’s also a man who I used to be friends with (before he became weird) that used to be fairly normal, as he got older he started having really bad hygiene and so people eventually stopped interacting with him and I think he just became lonely, but for the last 5-10 ish years he has made various fake Instagram accounts occasionally messaging me and telling me awful things, all anonymously but I knew it was him. How he would follow me in the hallways at school and collect any of my hairs that fell out and put them in his pants, how when I got married his fantasies got even better because I was married to someone else, asking to pay me for pictures of my body, being creepy on pictures on my social media where my feet are in the picture. I haven’t heard from him in probably about a year now, and I was friends with him in highschool roughly 10 years ago but didn’t have contact with him after that and yet he’s still looming in the background. He’s done this to multiple previous coworkers of mine because we worked in the same building just for a different business. Scary. It definitely makes me worried about other men. Worried when I start dating men (I got divorced, it just didn’t work out for me) that they will end up being creepy. I’m definitely hyper vigilant of men and advances towards me.

Because I have been trained and educated in Basic and Advanced Leadership in the US military, have been assessed as a Transformational Servant Leader over the course of my MPH, and have years of experience as a supervisor, etc., I may be able to help you and Dr. Grande out with your questions. In answer to Q1: Yes. Yes. In answer to Q2: I do not know. So, Dr. Grande may be able to answer that one for you. However, the FedEx Human Resources Department should have already had a legal and ethical no tolerance policy for sexual harassment on and off the job site in either cases of a) a quid pro quo relationship between a subordinate and a superior or b) a pervasively hostile work environment. However, the problem with claiming quid pro quo in this case is that there was no imbalance of power, since she did nothing to check his career advancement and had previously befriended him as new colleague. He did create a hostile work environment for her in going through her unlocked and unattended cell phone messages and pictures with a coworker and in making her feel uncomfortable by spreading rumors amongst her friends and coworkers that the two of them were in some kind of an intimate sexual relationship when she already had a baby daughter and a boyfriend. Thus, he was attempting to ruin her otherwise good reputation, possibly to drive away his rivals in making her look less desirable to them. Of course, being a jerk in doing so would make her disgusted with him. She blocked him. He could not take her justifiable reaction to his gross behavior. So, in his deluded state, he killed her. It reminds me of The Doobie Brothers lyrics to "What a Fool Believes."

morgan was the only one that could have prevented it. she either shouldve been clear with him about their relationship, or she shouldve been able to protect herself when she was in danger. i would say all women should carry, but there are also women that will shoot innocent men they wrongly perceive as threatening

Stalking is such a scary thing because people continue to walk the line between illegal and legal actions while continuing to terrorize their victims. From watching these types of crimes, filing a restraining order just seems to ramp up the violent behavior and further aggravate the perpetrator. :( What a sad story this was.
@carlholland381911 ай бұрын
ya the stalker isnt doing much wrong until he attacks the victim so preventing it seems difficult. its got to be easier now than ever before tho since everything we do is recorded. but when someone wants to harm you, youre the only one that can stop it and you only have a split second. stay armed

Jason's obsession really is frightening, but I cannot imagine how one would prevent someone like this from going too far. Thank you, Dr. Grande, as always, for another compelling video.

I don’t understand how a person makes the leap from loving someone to then being capable of killing them. What happens to people who have that capability, but who actually get into a relationship with that person? Are they abusive? Controlling and manipulative?
@yankeecitygirl11 ай бұрын
it's not really love it's obsession. Its the stalker's twisted idea of love.
@tiryaclearsong42111 ай бұрын
Maybe abusive or controlling and they end in murder regardless, but obsession based relationships usually fall apart very fast. I heard a statistic that when obsessive people actually get the object of their obsession in a relationship the relationship often ends after only 9 months. For the murderous types, I would not be surprised if they don't just murder them when they find out that the person is a person and not an angel.

I think this is a case of dangerous obsession rather than genuine love.

Stories like this are terrifying. Terrifying. The fact people like this walk among us is insane. And most you’d never really even know. Just working somewhere can get you k1lled? How awful.

I've never used snapchat nor would I, esp after hearing about the privacy issue. Such a sad & infuriating case again with a great breakdown for us. Thanks Dr G😊🧡💛

Small thing, but for the first time in years I heard our guest use the word myriad properly. Thank you sir! For reference, think of myriad as representing the term "thousands of" or "many of". Use it accordingly; "myriad of..." is incorrect as is "a myriad ..." but "myriad opportunities presented ..." is right.

Nothing more scary than a guy friend who tells you he wants to be more, and you already have your life settled and never dreamed of his man in that manner, which he knows.
@carlholland381911 ай бұрын
why? guys dont just decide to "want to be more." he wouldve been dropping hints for a long time that should be noticed and responded to. sounds like your assuming any of your guy friends could decide to kill you at any time. sounds kind of narcissistic to me
