I have a theory that might sound crazy. What if Mrs. Norris is actually a witch? Or maybe, was a witch. For one thing, she's the only animal visible on the Marauder's Map, almost like how Animagi are able to be seen on it. And Filch treats her like his closest companion. So, what if, Mrs. Norris was actually a witch, perhaps someone Filch was close to, like a best friend, or even a possible love interest, but something happened, turning her into a cat. My theory, stemming from this new information released about Fantastic Beasts 2, is that Mrs. Norris is a Maledictus, whose blood was cursed, so she became a cat. Filch, who cared about her, kept her as his 'pet', but gives her free roam of the castle, like a person would have. Think about it. It's often mentioned in the books how she seems to be keeping eyes on the students and such, like a lookout for Filch. Can you picture a normal cat doing that? And, in Chamber of Secrets, it's Mrs. Norris that gets attacked, rather than Filch, who is a Squib. It never made sense to me that Voldemort/Tom Riddle would pull his punches like that, rather than attacking what would be a more suitable target. I don't know. It might just be a coincidence.

This theory makes a good amount of sense to me. One thing that has always bothered me about Nagini is the fact that she doesn't match any known species of snake, in real life or in Harry Potter. Her massive size indicates that she would by some sort of python, a constrictor, but her fangs make her seem more like a viper, a venomous snake. There is no venomous snake of that size in real life or (if memory serves) listed in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. To me, the idea that Nagini might be a human cursed into snake form similar to a werewolf (which, despite supposedly turning into a wolf at moonlight, turns into something significantly different and far more dangerous, like Nagini's different form relative to a snake) could explain her significant deviation from standard serpent species, as well as the magical properties of her venom. Also, if Credence is the father and Nagini is his and the unnamed woman's child, that could explain her ability to turn into the elderly woman in Deathly Hallows. Credence, being an Obscurial, is able to shapeshift to and from human form almost at will. If his daughter inherited something like this ability, it could be how she transforms back to human, and help explain some of the dark properties of ehr very being.
@DepecheModeLove7 жыл бұрын
Nate TSO YES
@silvereclipse90437 жыл бұрын
Nate TSO I don't think being a obscurial is hereditary, but I'm pretty sure strong magic is and I'm pretty sure that Credence has been shown to be one, as it is the only way he could've survived as an obscurial as said in the movie, so perhaps that's how Nagini is able to transform into Bathilda Bagshot. I'm not sure if a person with her disease retains their magic after transforming, but if they do then that would be a good explanation. Of course this is still assuming Credence is the father.
@Sam-xf4uw7 жыл бұрын
He is saying that the girl in the picture is Nagini
@natetso33077 жыл бұрын
Sophia Ponnuru I doubt it is either, just something I wanted to suggest. I mean, Credence's entire body transforms into the obscurus and back, so that could include his DNA, but obviously this is magic we're talking about so that means nothing. That is a good point you make that it might be Credence's strong magical blood that enables Nagini to maintain some of her magic once in animal form. I would assume that they normally lose their magic upon transforming, as keeping it would kind of defeat the purpose of the curse, just allowing them to transfigure themselves back to human. This would also fit well with Credence, who in and of himself bears a curse, but is an exception to many of its supposed rules, so his daughter could be an exception to the rules of her own curse.
@melissacraig48397 жыл бұрын
+Underrated Ravenclaw Who is saying that? The video is saying that she is the possible mother to nagini based on a snakes life in the series it would be highly unlikely that claudia is in fact nagini herself but her mother. So possibly Credence and Claudia are the mother and father to whoever becomes Nagini.
@lolachant__89676 жыл бұрын
Okay, I have a theory about how Nagini could ‘become’ Bathilda: Nagini was human, so she could take polyjuice potion and be restored to a human form for a small amount of time.

Hearing the definition of maledictus stirred something in my memory. We've seen an animal that has human like behavior and is treated by the owner as if it was a real person. That's right. I'm talking about Mrs Norris. Think about it, jkr says that she is not a kneazle(a kind of wizard cat that is known to be adept at stopping mischief) STOPPING MISCHIEF! Filch talks about her like she can actually understand him, and most of the time, it seems she does. This could explain her human like behavior! But I dare take it one step further.What if Mrs Norris was a caretaker? She is DETERMINED to stop anyone causing trouble or mischief in the school. And why in chamber of secrets when she's petrified it affects her the same as everyone else. Because she used to be a human! She's also so incredibly dedicated and sympathetic towards Filch because she understands what he's going through! Dumbledore has been known to hire WEREWOLVES. Possibly the most hated half human in the wizarding world, honestly for him, its not that big a stretch! PLEASE MAKE THIS INTO A VIDEO!! Love your account!! Well Jay, in terms of translating, you are both wrong and right. Assuming that J.K. took the 2 parts of Maledictus from classical Latin like she likes to do, then Male comes from the Latin word Malum, meaning Bad or evil. Dictus is the 4th principal part of the Latin word Dicere, which means to speak, and in this case it translates to "having been spoken", and it is classified as a adjective, so it makes sense that it comes after the noun, male. Therefore Maledictus translates roughly to "Evil has been spoken", which could mean that someone cursed or hexed the young woman and or her family. Overall, great theory, can't wait for the film.

Um, actually "maledicere" is not an invention by J.K. There is a part in Ovid's metamorphoses (about the Lycian peasants) which says "(...) Sed nunc quoque turpes Litibus exercent linguas pulsoque pudore, Quamvis sint sub aqua, sub aqua maledicere temptant." which (roghly) translates to "But even now they continue to make the nastiest remarks and, because they got rid of their decency, they, although being under water, try to say nasty things under water." ("maledicere" here means "saying bad things about a person" in a sense of bitching etc.) Also, since "benedicere" is the usual Latin version of "to bless" or "to praise", "maledicere" is more or less the opposite. So, "maledictus" quite literally means "the cursed one" or "the despised one"
@gerardsotxoa7 жыл бұрын
Meledictus is "maldito" in Spanish or "maledeto" in Italian. So in English is literally "coursed" or "damned". Split the etymology of "meledictus" is a mistake, you should translate it directly.
@anaclaudiadalmolin69007 жыл бұрын
Yeap. In Portuguese "cursed" means "maldito". Similar in Italian and Spanish. So, I do not think that's too much about the word "maledictus". It's literally means that someone was cursed.

I don't have the books on me either, as it is. But Harry is the final horcrux - the one that was never meant to happen. It only happens because at this point Voldemort has already split his soul into 6 different parts - he is so unstable that his soul fragments and a piece attaches itself to Harry. Therefore, Nagini is already a horcrux, because all the horcruxes are made.

When Nagini takes the form of Bathilda that isn't her human form. Harry recognizes Bathilda in the graveyard after seeing her picture on the back of her book. That really is what Bathilda looks like or else Harry would have had no reason to follow Nagini thinking it was her.

The thing about venom being used in a potion is that chemicals entering the bloodstream directly can affect the body differently than ingesting it. So Nagini's venom entering from a bite could have a very different affect than mixing it into a potion with other ingredients.

I've got a cool theory I've never heard before. Snape's killing curse didn't kill Dumbledore. We know from Moody's lesson that you've got to be full of hate and rage to make it work. Snape didn't hate Dumbledore. The freezing spell stopped Harry from screaming out when the spell hit Dumbledore and only lifted a short time later. I think the fall killed Dumbledore. The spell knocked him form the tower so Snape is still responsible but I think it makes Snape a more redeemable character knowing he didn't have it in him to perform the killing curse properly If this is true and Dumbledore was conscious for his fall even without a wand I'm pretty confident he would have had the capacity to save himself but he chose not to. This was because he was nearly dead anyhow and if he survived Snape's curse then Voldemort would have killed Snape. Also the power of the elder wand would have died with him if he killed himself

Jdog787 we know that. It’s a huge deal. But Daniel had a bad reaction to the contacts that turn his eyes green from blue (for the movie). But we could compromise in the movies that way telling Harry “you have your mothers eyes” actually makes sense. 🤷🏻♀️

I have a theory about Nagini's venom, it's not cursed as such, it's a powerful anticoagulant (blood thinner) explaining why Arthur Weasly's wounds continue to bleed, since the wounds can't be heeled by magic (or sitches) you can assume the wounds must be left to heel on there own and it's so deadly becauae without medical attention most would bleed to death before their wounds could heel. The venom then keeps Voldemort alive by thinning his blood making it easier for his heart to pump it around the body (acting a bit like the muggle drug warfrain). Voldemort is so reliant on the venom becauae without it the residual heart would fail killing the body. What is haven't worked out is how (when mixed with unicorn blood) it creates the body to start with becauae I don't actually think it did, the body is so often described as childlike so my 2nd theory is the Voldemort did in fact possess a muggle child but it was to much for the child killing it's soul leaving Voldemort reliant on unicorn blood (which keeps the drinker alive even at the brink of death) and Nagini's venom (which as i deciscribed can maintain a frail heart.) Hope that made sense.
@nicolestruebs25657 жыл бұрын
I would just like to make a pharmaceutical correction - that is not how anticoagulants such as warfarin work. The term "blood thinner" is a colloquialism and a bit of a misnomer because these drugs do not change the viscosity of the blood (in other words they don't make blood more "watery"), they only impact the body's ability to form a blood clot due to impact on the cascade of events that happens when your body tries to form a blood clot to close a wound. The condition where the heart cannot pump sufficient blood to meet the needs of the body is called congestive heart failure, and anticoagulants are not effective in improving the heart's ability to pump more blood out in heart failure. Sorry if this puts a dent in your theory, just wanted to clear misconceptions about pharmaceuticals.

Nicole Struebs thanks for pointing it out, I got my drugs confused but hopefully that doesn't completely change my point.

I always figured Nagini was the final animal Voldemort inhabited before Wormtail found him and made him the temporary body. I think there's quite a bit of evidence for this: 1. Voldemort needed Nagini's venom. Why? It would make sense if the ritual that made Voldemort's temporary body was tied in with the animal he previously inhabited in some way. 2. Voldemort made Nagini a horcrux. As you mentioned in the ranked horcrux video, why would you put your soul in something mortal, rather than an inanimate object? What if it was easier for Voldemort, in his weakened state, to make Nagini a horcrux because she already had his soul inside of her? 3. Nagini's venom is, as mentioned, cursed. This is not normal for snakes. But we know that Voldemort, even without his body, still possessed magic. It's how he transferred from body to body in the first place. What if Voldemort, while inhabiting the body of a snake, imbued that snake's venom with dark magic to better protect himself? Or perhaps Voldemort's soul itself just naturally corrupted anything it came in contact with, and a side-effect was cursed venom. 4. VOLDEMORT WAS FOND OF HER. Dumbledore says so, and while, yes, Nagini was a horcrux at that point, what was keeping Voldemort from locking Nagini somewhere to keep her safe? He doesn't seem to show affection for any of his other Horcruxes. Hell, the diadem he literally just tosses into the Room of Requirement with a bunch of junk. I don't see Voldemort having such a strong connection with just a snake unless he LITERALLY had a strong connection with her. Because he had at one point inhabited her body. 5. We fist meet Nagini after Voldemort has his temporary body. I don't think it's an accident that we meet Voldemort, the person who revived Voldemort to a temporary body, and an animal that it was stated that Voldemort could inhabit the longest, in the same scene. I'm by no means saying your video is wrong. It's a great video and a really interesting theory with strong evidence, but this was just what I always thought Nagini was, and if Fantastic Beasts doesn't go that route, will continue to think Nagini is.

Arguably the most exciting part of seeing this movie in theaters was that this theory was confirmed

Parselmouth is what the person who speaks parseltounge is called.
@michellesanreis15687 жыл бұрын
Oni Sorasousha It is. As the person above me said, Parseltongue is seen as the name of the ‘language’ per say, and Parselmouth is used to describe the person who speaks it. And yes, it is in the book, I think Dumbledore mentioned it to Harry in THBP when they were looking at Tom’s family.

Great job calling this one J. You did make me think of something though. When Nagini take over of Bagshot. Being able to look human and speak, maybe the horcrux allowed her to overcome the blood-curse once Voldemort was fully restored because he could "activate" it somehow to bring her back for a short time. I am assuming that she hadn't been human for a long time before then so maybe she needed to horcrux as a template to allow her to regain her form.
