Just because a person doesn't win defensive player of the year doesn't mean they weren't great. To be a great defensive player, all you have to do is stop a player from scoring or make him pass. There is no stat for that. To win DPOY, they want to see stats, and that's why, most of the time, a center is always winning because they get plenty of blocks. People forget all you have to do is stop a person from being a good defender. Like I said, there is no stat for making a person pass.

Pippen wasn't even the best perimeter defender of his era. That was Rodman. Pippen was an excellent weak side defender and played the passing lanes well, but all you have to do is go through the top SF matchups during that era and see that Pippen was getting cooked by all the stars. Dominique, Mullin, even Bird with a broken back lit him up. When Grant Hill was smoking Pippen, they moved Jordan on him even though the size difference was an issue. Scottie was maybe the greatest 2nd banana (with Klay) in NBA history, but he wasn't a franchise player. He fit perfectly with MJ, but imagine MJ getting someone like Dominique or Barkley in 87 to the Bulls. You could've just cancelled the league for the next decade. Funny what six titles does to a reputation of a guy who averaged 16/7 for his career and once scored over 27 points in a Finals game. For comparison, Kyrie averaged 27ppg versus the Warriors.

LeBron was the primary ball handler, while Malone and KG nearly never called plays. And playing like guards means handling the ball in a pick'n'roll play. LeBron nearly never set picks, and nearly always played as the p'n'r ballhandler, while Malone and KG set picks constantly. And playing like guards means generally playing in the perimeter. LeBron plays in the perimeter for the vast majority of the game, while Malone and KG live in the post.

Stop. Prime healthy Pip never faced Kobe. Nobody was stopping Kobe, but the 2004 Pistons (Tashon Prince) gave him hell and had him searching for answers. Kobe once praised Scottie Pippens defensive abilities and analyzed his match up against Charles Barkley noting how he was able to take the Sun's out of their normal offensive strategy. This is what made Kobe so great. He was a true student of the game.
