How to Replace a Dryer Drive Motor. Stuck fan blower removal and replacement Whirlpool won’t start

If your dryer motor is buzzing or humming when you try to start it this is a video for you.
I also show a trick to make it much easier to remove the motor from the blower fan.
If you have a whirlpool Kenmore estate Crosley Maytag and many others this is probably the video you’re looking for. As long as the filter is coming out of the top of the machine most of these dryers are built exactly the same since the 1960s and tell present day.
I also show exactly how to troubleshoot and replace the motor. There’s several different symptoms and I go over all of them.

Awesome video. My motor wouldn't unscrew from the fan so I had to drill the hold and shoot in Liquid Wrench. Then it unscrewed. Glad you put that in there. Thanks!

Kind of sad I didn't see you bring out a blowtorch or hole saw. I feel like our shop has gone like 0 for 20 on blower fans. At least the Whirlpool types. Literally any others, no issues. The kind of locktite they use on those things bind so powerful, they could save a Kardashian marriage.

LOL, give this trick a try. I’ve only recently discovered it but so far it has worked every time. I drill a hole, spray liquid wrench in it, wait an hour and then re-spray it. After that it pops right off. Could just be my luck though and it won’t work for anyone else. :-)

Super helpful. Thank you! I tried drilling the hole and spraying penetrant. No luck. Took off the back and the fan was cracked in two. Cracked it off in pieces but still could not get that nut off the shaft. Gave up and bought a new motor. :-(. Still cheaper than buying a new dryer. Thanks again.

Gotta drill the hole the right way to hit that spot without hurting your shaft.... sounds familiar 🤣 Cut the fan and the motor out of one of these at a junkyard to make a blower for a blacksmithing forge, you saved me from breaking it 👍

Very good point about cleaning out the blower wheel... I just replaced my motor but first I tried to clean it and part of that was cleaning out the blower wheel massive amount of lint in there from who knows how long most of it looked like dirt and heavily packed in there I was surprised it was even able to turn with all that in there... At first when cleaning didn't work I thought I wasted my time cleaning it but then I thought " Hey that what probably caused motor to burn out" and " Even with new motor if I didn't clean it... It'd just burn ago again in a few days/weeks/months...." I feel like this is something most Diyer would overlook.... Anyways... liked vid subbed...

I have a very loud, intermittent, scrubbing sound with my Amana dryer. The rollers were seized so I replaced them as they were flat-spotted. Still had the noise so I replaced the rear felt seal, because I had some spots where the pains was rubbed off. Still have the noise… I thin it is the blower wheel. It has just a little bit of play in it, is that normal?

I have a whirlpool. My question is what is the clutch for on the front of the motor? Is it even needed? The dryer repair man took mine off and it's working fine. Seems like it's just a round aluminum piece bolted on the front with no special movement. Is it ok to leave it off the motor and operate it?

My fan blower shattered, motor is still good but can't get the fan off motor. I'm able to loosen fan so it spins while securing shaft in place with wrench, but no matter how many times i spin the blade, it won't detach from the motor shaft. Is the fan somehow fused to the shaft even though it is able to turn independently?

Use a reciprocal saw and just cut the motor shaft in half and get a new blower wheel ($15-$20).

Frigidaire maxfill washing machine. 2-3 years old. Agitator? Clockwise sounds good counter clockwise sounds like stripping gears AKA metal,ish grinding sound. Loaded unloaded no difference. Everything else seems ok operation wise. What part/parts should i be focused on thx cj

I’ve had that happen before where the fan will pop off and leave the threaded cap behind. You’ll still need to penetrate oil it and grab it with vice grips. It’s a pain. If it has not popped all the way off, and just free spinning and stuck on there, you may have to cut and hammer it apart. Either way you’ll have to order a new fan. Good luck.

Looked into it and it looks like sometimes high resolution videos will take extra time for KZbin to process and even though it’s published they will act up. There were other answers that I saw that were pretty much nothing I could do to fix it sometimes 4K uploads don’t work well on certain devices. I’m not sure hopefully the problem was solved itself overtime.

Instead of chanel locks use impact wench with a 7/8 socket works for mine. Where u got the adjustable wrench at i used vise grip.
