You've also proved a theory ive had since junior high school: Heavy Metal has plenty of great songwriting, impeccable chord changes, emotive vocals & lyrics, and technical mastery of their chosen instrument. Its a shame that this theory has taken flight only so recently. You should be proud!! Sean Black

At school, circa 1994-1997 I repeatedly submitted maiden, Pantera, sabbath and machinehead lyrics for English homework if we had to write poems. Always got high marks. Luckily I was the only rocker in the class.

Stuart, You Weasted Years version is one of my best music for relaxing these days. Just today got the feeling, that I will learn it to play, in the last months I concentrated to electric guitar, this song will be perfect to push me back a bit to the acoustic "world". Thank You for Your songs, I'm waiting for the next covers :)

Stuart, dropping you a note to say how impressed/moved I was by your version of Wasted Years - it was brilliant. Both vocals and guitar are spot on. The fact that you've now uploaded a tutorial means I have no excuse in not trying to nail this one myself. Absolutely first class interpretation, mate - bloody well done! ❤

Thank you sir..This song and, oddly your version, grabs my heart. It inspired me to do the things that i sometimes take for granted, like spending time with the family and friends who could be gone forever in the blink of an eye. I have loved this song for decades, but somehow hearing it from you gave it a new perspective.

Stuart, thank you so much. When I saw your acoustic version i was blown away and wanted to learn the same version but couldnt find it. Now, half a year later I looked again and there it is. Made me really happy! One question though: In your "playthrough" you use a capo, but not here in the tutorial. Why is that? Best regards from Germany
@stuartclifford87958 ай бұрын
Dankeschon from England. It's very simple, in the tutorial I didn't want to cause confusion with fret numbers, so I left the capo off. In the full version, I need the capo to match my own voice. It's a very personal individual choice as to where to place a capo, according to one's own vocal range. But the techniques are just the same, capo or not. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for listening and commenting it makes my day 🙂 🎸
@ralfh.50318 ай бұрын

I really like this tutorial. I feel really confident in the intro, but I’m still trying to figure out the hybrid picking for the rest of the song. I don’t suppose you would make a supplemental video showing the finger picking for the body of the song. It’s really beautiful btw.
@stuartclifford879511 ай бұрын
Thanks Tyler I'll have a think although my right hand finger technique is very free, not always using the same fingers for the same string etc. Anyway I'll give it some thought. Thanks for listening and commenting 😊

i like how that riff at the beginning really abolish in to the EMinor this song reminds me of Rory gallagher tattood lady backwards he plays EM C Dminor. I can understand where Iron maiden got their influences from and also Thin Lizzy Emerald Massacre. Rory gallagher plays the D open riffing kind of same but bit more lower down without hitting the high E string. Thanks for the lesson. Also the G part reminds me of Im a loner by kansas.
