Wastwater Landscape Photography plus, Thanks to Thomas Heaton
In this episode, I'm at Wastwater, Lake District National Park. I combine 2 visits to the beautiful Lake and create 1 great video!
Thomas Heaton. On a previous video • Landscape Photography ... I mentioned about meeting Thomas Heaton at my Studio. Well, last Monday I hosted that night to a sell-out audience. Thomas, as you could imagine, was just excellent. 5-STAR reviews from Social Media.
I just want to take this opportunity to thank Thomas for launching my "UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL" themed night. Thank you
Up next: BILL WARD

THIS VIDEO
Situated in the Wasdale Valley, Wastwater is 3 miles long, half a mile wide and 260 feet deep, and the deepest of all the lakes. Wastwater is perhaps the most awe-inspiring of all the lakes. Surrounded by mountains, Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Scafell Pike - England's highest mountain
In my opinion, it's by far the nicest to photograph out of them all. In this video, you'll see me photograph a small area of the Lake which I captured over two separate visits.
The first visit: I turned up simply to shoot the sun-setting. I arrived just 20 minutes before sunset without quite understanding just how magnificent the Lake actually was. The drive up to the lake alone just blew me away. I love the fact the mountain on the opposite side of the lake to the road simply sweeps down straight into the lake. Clearly, this land is untouched, and un-spoilt by mankind. It's probably remained as it is today for millions of years. It's just jaw-droppingly awesome. If you haven't been there to photograph it yet. You must!
Second Visit: My return trip was hindered by bad weather. The wind was just awful. The light wasn't much better either. I'm not too bothered about the cold but there's only so much you can take of minus 4 conditions. The wind chill factor probably added another 2 or 3 degrees to that too!
Either way, I soldiered on and shot enough to create this video. I hope you like it.
I fully intend to return again and again throughout 2018 at varying times of the day to photograph it more.

Gary, I watched this video again and I find TH absolutely stunning; however there is a higher level of excellence, i.e. ABSOLUTELY (GARY GOUGH) AMAZING. As a result I have started the Gary Gough fan club this morning. This afternoon my wife came home and viewed your video and the membership doubled. I am asking all your subscribers to join the club, there are no dues, no meetings and only one thing to do; every time you watch a Gary Gough video give it a thumbs up and you are automatically a member in good standing. Gary, I knew when you said that you were going to a wonderful place at the end of the Compo, Clegg and Foggy vlog that you’d be going to Wasdale. My wife is a nurse and one of her patients about 30 years ago told us about it and we’ve bee at least once a year every year since then. I get as excited as you every time I go, it’s just a beautiful place even though I’ve never been lucky enough to see a good sunset but I did once experience it mirror flat which was one of those experiences that will live with me forever. Gary, Nice job rending the color in what many may have perceived as leaning towards "drab." The location certainly looks to be all eye candy, and very inspiring, I can understand your being so stoked to be in that locale Nice also to see you shooting ISO 50. That's where I shoot everything but critters and I love the results my 5 ds r yields in the ISO "basement." Keep on wid it, brother. Also, I very much appreciate your recent critique. Beautiful, still an area I need to get to. It seems Bill is everywhere. He was in an old episode of Midsummer Murders the other night, then the night after he was in an old episode of Jonathan Creek, and now he’s popping up in your vlog! I never knew he was a photographer.

Well if it happens during your “Evening with” event then you could charge extra for a murder mystery night 😉. Just viewed his web site, impressive.

Another positive and inspiring vlog Gary. I have visited Wast Water 3 times and the weather was horrendous on every visit which made this lake depressing to me so I never went back. After seeing you video, it has definitely changed my mind.

Hi Gary, loved the video and your images as always were stunning. Shooting in the Lakes is very challenging especially as it seems to change from one valley to the next. Wasdale is certainly one of my fav's, I have been there on numerous occasions including yesterday, I discovered a new as I slipped coming down one of the boggy paths managing to ruin a poloriser, still at least it wasn't the camera. I have two questions, did you know that bloke on the bike as you did your opening piece to camera and how do you record your audio? Looking forward to more video's from you.
@GaryGough
@GaryGough 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich, sorry about your polarizer. Like you said luckily it wasn't the camera. I simply record the sound using the inbuilt mic on my Canon G7X MKII. I'm starting to vlog on my 1DX and for that, I use an external mic attached to the flash mount on the camera. Hope this helps.

The lakeside is pretty well accessible. There isn't a road up to the lake though. You can park fairly close (40' away) and there are flat bits of grass that will be easy to access if it's not too wet and boggy. To be sure, I would Google Maps the location and look at the street view.
