Sold jeeps in the late 80’s early 90. The Comanche was the best rugged truck I ever saw. The 6 cyl 4wd was unbelievable. The other smalll trucks weren’t even in the same league. I would buy one tomorrow if I could find one, but one rarely comes on the market.

I've gotten one stuck with an uncle and a cousin during winter coyote hunting. Took a 3/4 ton Chevy to finally pull us out after digging for 4 hours. We had to climb out of the windows to get out of the vehicle with the snow being so deep. That's what it takes to get one of those stuck. Impressive machines. Cheap too.

I'm wish I hadn't sold my Comanche last year. Very similar to this one, 1988, short bed, 4.0L, 5 speed, 4x4 sport truck with the bench seat and completely stock except wheels and rather large white wall road tires. It was so satisfing to drive, smooth long shifts, torquey inline six, great visibility, and a lot of character.

12:50 segment. Totally agree. I think no one tends to bash on the auto industry for giving trucks updated features to make a truck better but buying a truck at $60k, 70k, 80k, is just obscene.Seems like the truck industry is forgetting about the real people who need a truck for it's purpose. The farmers, mechanics, contractors, landscapers, electricians, handyman, etc. Real people who Work for a living. Those who use real work clothes in case they get dirty it won't matter.

No spanking at all. The Glad still managed without lockers, just a few extra scraping. Notice that the majority of the obstacles involved descending, since I'm sure the venerable Comanche is underpowered at that altitude with 33" rubber. All in all a fun comparison, but the title is clickbait. Roman hit the nail on the head: today's truck sales are also targeting the recreational segment, which is the hottest segment in the market. 👍

I am with you here. They were NEVER going to retool their factories to re-create the Comanche. Financially speaking it was going to be way easier to just slap a bed on the back of a JL. But I am with you. This is NOT worth the hype. Certainly NOT worth the $ they are asking for.
@jeepinbanditrider5 жыл бұрын
It's not just a matter of tooling. The original design of the XJ/MJ would NEVER pass emissions and safety regulations today. There's no way around that not without what amounts to a full redesign anyway. Emissions and CAFE standards alone mean we will never see a boxy SUV like the XJ again. It's part of the reason so many SUVs and Crossovers today look the same. There's only so much you can do with the shape of a vehicle to help it stay fuel efficient.
@toledojeeper29325 жыл бұрын
@@WW-wf8tu ..they didnt slap a bed on the JL ...different frame ..cant even be built on the same assembly line .
@DragonKnightX125 жыл бұрын
@@WW-wf8tu Except they didn't just slap a bed on the JL. The JT has a completely new frame made for truck duty and borrows a lot of components from the new Ram 1500 like the 5-link rear coil spring suspension which makes nicer ride than a JL. They also added a high-speed range to the T-case like a Raptor has for Baja blasting and the Gladi Rubi gets Fox 2.0 Racing shocks isntead of the normal Rubicon shocks.

@@glentight we have a 2015 jeep 4dr wrangler. Lifted 4". Little bit bigger tires on stock wheels. The lift was needed. 410 Detroit locker for the rear. Limited slip 410 front. 6 spd auto. With all of this to make it play worthy, so it won't scrape my undercarriage. Heheh. The v6 wasn't enough. So we installed a whipple supercharger. All of this to compete with my husband's 1979 jeep honcho. His was a military keep pickup he got at an auction for $300.00. It was equipped w 1.5 ton military axles. 8 stud hubs heavy duty. 4 sod trans and a military transfer case. 8leaf susp. Front and rear. Hubby installed the airbag system instead of shocks.
