The reason why it was closed is that they did not obey the franchise law. The owner is not a full Filipino but also American citizenship. The station also sold depository stamps to foreigners when the constitution is clear that media corporations should be 100% Filipino owned and controlled. They are not paying the right taxes and defrauded the government in billions of pesos. They are not also following the law in terms of labor practices. Their employees working with them for more than 20 years as a writer is still contractual. They cannot show proof of the arbitration proceedings that they proved without any doubt that they own the land, properties etc. The media franchise is not a right but a privilege. And they should obey all the requirements that are stated in their franchise. So BBC please be fair in your reporting.

I have high regard with BBC especially Mr. Sackur before this report/news. Mr. Stephen Sackur has been interviewing personalities in the Philippines and all his interviews were based on facts and well researched wherein the personalities were embarrassed during the interviews. When it comes to colors, design, logo and all forms of material and contents, intellectual property rights, patents, llc, as well as registrations are always implemented, when there are obvious violations, it is to be recalled, stopped, for the unethical practice of not following instructions wherein report and news layout are to be presented, since viewers knows the genuine, original, as well as the material and the substance of every report. Sixth : Kindly note that ABS CBN applied the Franchise Renewal in Congress since 2014 during the time of President Pinoy (2010-2016 President) where ABS CBN and Chairman Lopez helped Pres Pinoy Aquino elected. However, Pres Pinoy in 2014 not helped ABS CBN franchise renewal because both have a fall out due that ABS CBN was critical on Pres Pinoy governance and controversial issues such as Impeachment of Former Chief Justice Corona mistrial. Even Pres Pinoy sister (Cris Aquino) does not helped on their Franchise Renewal eventhough she worked and was a Star Talent of ABS CBN. In 2014, ABS CBN Franchise application was heared in Congress and the latter asked ABS CBN the documents and to answer their alleged violations but ABS CBN never came back because thoughts they had more chance and time because Franchise will expire on May 4, 2020. Also, ABS CBN expected their endorsement of Presidential Candidate Manuel Roxas (Pres Pinoy Aquinos annointed to replace him on 2016-2022) or Grace Poe will win the 2016 Presidential Election because they have all the Govt Machinery and Mainstream Media in their hand but unfortunately Filipinos supported and elected Pres Duterte (over 16 Million votes) with a wide margin of over 6 Million than Roxas. What foreign media don't understand is that Mass media franchise in the Philippines is a PRIVILEDGE (granted by congress)and NOT a right.... and that was how it has been for a long time. To foreign media, you should do more research to understand at a deeper level why the broadcast franchise of ABS-CBN in the Philippines was NOT granted. Foreign media should understand that ABS-CBN's franchise was not renewed NOT because of Duterte BUT because of their mounting law violations. The congressional hearing on ABS-CBN's franchise issue has been beamed in its entirety in various mass media platforms for transparency. I think ABS-CBN needs to settle first their labor issues, their land property issue (where their physical structure is located).

Mr. Johnson is reporting only the ABS-CBN's side. Why doesn't he get the proceedings of the 12 hearings in Congress and make them the bases of his report. The proceedings have both the side of the Government and the ABS-CBN. Mr reporter you forgot to mentioned that their franchise had expired and because the congress need set up a hearing on wether abs cbn deserve to have a new franchise due to the fact that they violated numerous constitutional laws not to include tax scheme that the government deserved to have it in return. They did not stop their operation, their franchise expired last may 4th this year, they did not abs cbn grant another franchise for many violations and breaking the philippine constitution. Having another channel without franchise, having to air ppv’s and generating tons of money that is not legal and without permission. They just did it to themselves by being too greedy... i just wish the governent destroys this media network for good, the person in charge is power hungry and a danger to the state. Hmm ... Come on, all statements here are all misleading and misrepresentations made by that respondent reporter Why not try to review one by one all the violations made by the ABS-CBN. There were eight (8) reasons which were not answered during the Congress hearing i.e., the questionable ownership, the tax evasion charges (the juggling of questionable investments to cover-up the supposed tax dues from their own created different related corporations), the unsettled loans obligations which remained outstanding, the long unsettled labor issues, the misrepresentations of ownerships of the pdrs, the illegal transfer of allotted frequencies channel to their different sister companies (usufruct) and other misrepresentation declarations made. Take note, President Duterte was not in any way to put to blame regarding its decision not to grant its Franchise. But 'all the blames were pointed to those documents by ABS-CBN were submitted to Congress which were being scrutinized which they failed to support their claims ... yet they hardly to defend themselves upon inquiry ... only to lie for their cover-ups ... which Congress 'to deny the right for the Application of the Franchise' with 70 against 11 votation on the floor. Again, the majority decision was purely led to its blunders, lies and misrepresentations made by ABS-CBN and Congress was Not Very Honest Nor Very Convinced and/or Not Satisfied At All With All Their Reasonings To Support Theirs ... There were 12 hearings done by the Congress to give ABS CBN chances to answer the issues raised and during those hearings, ABS CBN generally did not give justifiable answers and so Congress found ABS CBN not worthy of the privilege of a franchise. The network now uses other platforms for their shows. The Committee on Good Governance will pursue the investigation on ABS CBN’s tax avoidance scheme, questionable land title of their network headquarters, labor cases, etc. Why did ABS CBN not pursue during the previous administration when it first applied for the renewal of its franchise in 2014 and the President at that time was their ally? Why they even waited for their franchise to expire on 04 May 2020? And now they are blaming the Duterte administration to have blocked the renewal of their franchise because they are critical of his administration? Other networks in the Philippines are critical also of the present administration but they were able to renew recently their respective franchises because they did not break any law. So ABS CBN, stop your propaganda against President Duterte and clean up your mess instead.
