This winter was the worst since Ive been in Reno. As for affordable? Those days have long passed. The time to move would have been before 2019 when housing was affordable by a single person with a decent job. Today, Reno is booming and that means rent is high and home prices are high. I would not move here is I were a struggling 20 something. Reno is great for folks who have a desirable job skill that makes money anywhere they go.

I hear you! It is totally an ideal city for someone who can work remotely (anywhere, as you mentioned.) It has truly gotten more costly to live here, but by comparison to other cities, it is still less expensive. I made a whole video on the actual cost of life here. You should check it out! Some of the stats I found really surprised me and help me to put it in perspective.
@johng4093 Жыл бұрын
Cost of living is relative to where you're coming from. Definitely has been changing rapidly with the accelerating exodus from CA. Same thing happening in AZ.

I transferred to Reno 14 years ago housing was at 220,000.00 my apartment was $ 950.00 a month. Presently you will not get a house for under $ 400,000.00 . My presently is $ 1650.00 a month which sucks big time. Around 2017 45,000 Kalifornians immigrated from San Francisco and really screwed up Reno the moved here bought one house with cash and bought another one to rent out and they are ones that screwed the housing market and rent for apartments. Do we like the immigrants from Kalifornia ? NO.
@sarahisselling Жыл бұрын
A lot of locals share this sentiment. The mass migration here from other places has put a huge strain on the housing market and pricing. It has also brought in the development of many amazing amenities and entertainment.
@carlcolvin8320 Жыл бұрын
@@sarahisselling seriously?? They brought in entertainment and amenities ??. Brought in development meaning more houses. That is exactly how Reno is now screwed up by the Kalifornians. Also some idiot developers wanted to build Houses an grounds contaminated with Mercury between Reno and Carson City.
@sarahisselling Жыл бұрын
@@carlcolvin8320 I hear you. I am just saying, to see the positives...there is a lot more to do and see here than there ever has been. Also more industry, which means more jobs. It's not all bad news.

I don't know why people talk about SF as if everyone in CA lives in LA or SF. SF isn't even the largest city in the bay area (San Jose is). Most people in bay area consider SF an embarrassment and avoid it like the plague, same with Oakland.

Getting ready to retire out of Long Beach, CA. Reno/Carson City has been on my radar for a few years. I need to be in a place where I can still officiate HS sports and I hear the Reno area us short of officials. Hopefully can talk the girlfriend into coming with (she's from Sac) to cut prices but even so, has to be 100% better than Long Beach.

It can feel that way sometimes. But we have a much better climate for business, no state income taxes, and (in my opinion) a much more balanced political climate.

If you work in a state that charges state income tax, I believe you pay it no matter where you choose to live. Working remotely would not change that. For about 8 months, while living in Texas, I worked in L.A., commuting there each week. I had to pay extra taxes though I lived in Texas.

Left Reno a week ago and went back to the northeast. Literally the Wild West meets Madmax. Crime is high, homelessness, and please do not compare the tristate to Reno, laughable. So many more opportunities in the tristate to make the money to afford to live there. Food is not great, lacking in diversity, mall is average and small, outlets are average, people are actually pretty rude, walking along the river is unpredictable when it comes to unleashed dogs, unhinged homeless meth addicts, and if you have little children.. DO NOT BRING THEM DOWNTOWN! I lived downtown and can speak on this with truth. Reno, don’t do it.
@sarahisselling Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Perspective is truly a unique thing. I moved here from there, so in some ways I have the opposite position that you do. Unfortunately homelessness and cost of living are issues in most places this day in age. If you are looking for culture and eclectic dining, I would argue that the mall and the outlets are not the place to be looking for those things. Malls and outlets are the same store everywhere...? Anyway, thanks for stopping by.

So I would say have a collage degree maybe if you move here if your wanting to live alone or have a family.

One big reason people rent is because they waste money on going out to eat and not paying cash for a car. If you have a spouse or GF that likes uppity things....get rid of her. If I were a native of Reno....I would be very weary of renters...not homeowners.

If you think about it people from Reno probably moved to California and were accepted long ago, drove up prices and now Californians have to leave to their cities. We should be mad at you.
