Suzuki did a great job with the M109, sport bike performance in a cruiser! I had a Vrod and it was kind of the same, but it didn't have the torque the 109R has. They both put out about the same horsepower (great job HD) but the torque makes the M109 more fun to ride. You know the M109r has the biggest pistons than any production car or bike on the road. Big bore to get the cubic inches and torque, and short stroke to get the revs for the horsepower. Suzuki engineers know how to make a bad azz bike!

Yeah, the suzuki line is a wild one for sure! Busa, M109R, C109RT! They're all straight BONKERS!

the old 800 intruder was designed the same. oversquare pistons and water cooled. 4 valves per cylinder. You could wind them up into the 9000 rpm range as they had no limiter. Felt like a powerband kicked in when accelerating. Won a few drag races with mine....and when you beat your buddys 1200 sportster, you dont ceel so bad riding that tiny little rocket. I had an M109 for 13 years, and once I fitted it to me, using a gel seat, handlebar risers, switchblade pedals, Kuryakyn grips, etc., and probably most important, putting on Avon tires, it was a dream to ride. I also drilled out and debaffled the stock pipes. I rode the Hill Country roads of Central Texas, Arkansas Ozarks, Needles in Wyoming, and everywhere in between. It never once let me down. Lots of torque and power, and the Avon's let you just think about the curve ahead and effortlessly carried you right on through. The old school bikers hated it, but of course, they hated it because they didn't like looking at the taillights, all day and night. Great ride.

I have owned a 13' M109R for two years. Had it dyno tuned (ECU reflash) when i first bought it to balance out Freedom exhaust previous owner had installed. The peak numbers are necessarily impressive by todays standards. But the power curve speaks volumes how the bike makes power. From a little above 2k rpm to redline, the bike had either 100 plus lbft of torque or horsepower. If i remember the torque started dropping off around 5k to 5.5k where horsepower overtook it. Its a crazy feeling...and still makes me giggle even after 2 years! Its not peaky...just a constant pull.
@Whiskers742 ай бұрын
I know this video is 5 years old, but a 109 is still a 109. lol I bought a C-109R at the start of the year, and I fell in love with the power and torque the second I rode it. More classic styling than muscle styling, and Suzuki also put in a heavier flywheel, and a different intake cam to bring the torque lower in the rev range. Mine had pod filters, and open pipes when I bought it, and it rode like ass. It bucked like a pissed off bull on the tiniest throttle inputs cause it hadn't been tuned for the intake and exhaust mods. Fitted a tuner, and took it to a highly recommend shop to get it tuned. It's now not like being in a rodeo when I ride it any more. The factory limiters in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd have been removed, and the tune has been cleaned up. With that little done to it, it makes 110hp@6800rpm, and 120Ftlb from 3400rpm at the tyre. That's a more than healthy for a daily. The M must be lighter than the C though, cause with bags, and me (240ish lb) it weighs in at 1102lb on a certified scale.

The same here, mine is the same black/chrome 2007 model, it looks fab. All I’ve done to it is to add crash bars and a V-stream screen. IMO it looks better than any HD out there. The only things I’d have liked to see on it are ABS and a gear indicator. I don’t have any issues with the plastics, it’s pretty usual these days and saves weight (it’s heavy enough as it is.) I love the clamshell riding position, feet forward and body slightly inclined forward as well. I don’t agree with the commentator who says it isn’t good for touring, it’s super comfortable and effortless. Maybe he meant lack of luggage space? I have twin leather panniers but they don’t hold much, OK if you travel light but you’d probably need a backpack as well.

Do you find that the lack of a windshield is ok for 75mph (highway speed) cruising? The only thing I don't like about the 109, that is making me not sure if I want to get one, is the lack of a windscreen. I'm riding a Hayabusa currently and the wind kills me, because all the wind goes straight to your helmet and causes buffetting, so you can't really ride it without the most expensive ear plugs money can buy. Not having a windscreen means smoothing wind flow, and no loud "buffeting" or turbulence, so in theory, maybe a lot better?

This is the bike those people need that stretch out race bikes with extended swing arms and are scared of wheelies are actually looking for! All those people want(some of them, not all of them)is to look lean, and flex while riding from light to light, or sitting around, you can *do that on a sports cruiser* . For the rest of us, it's a combination of sound, that addictive torque, and just a juiced up stump pulling monster engine under our nuts. It's a very particular type of experience, nothing else provides, and nobody forgets. A lot of people don't even realize this is a thing yet, they still think there's fast in line 4's, and loud, leaky Harleys. It takes decades(sometimes longer) for the general public to understand and adopt a paradigm shift in cycling of any kind.

I rode a 2007 M-109R for a month or so and from the first twist of the throttle it impressed me, I'm a long time rider of 40 plus years and never rode a cruiser as violently fast and pulls as hard as this bike. I tested it one day and clocked 140 mph its diffinately not a regular cruiser. No matter what It always feels fast and pulls like a mother. No regular bike can hang with it. I now ride a '99 Honda Valkyrie and it don't feel as powerful and as fast as the 109 but that could be because they achieve their power differently, they feel totally different. The 109 with lots of powerful torque and horsepower and the Valk with quick revving accelleration . The 109 probably got more top end speed because lets remember its a 1800 while the old school Valk despite its 6 cyl is a 1500. I got the Valk up to 125mph with just a little bit left but not much more. This bike is not for everyone its heavy and could be a real challenge at slow speeds for some. You just need to know how to use your breaks to set it up to dive in then it accelerates leaps and bounds harder than just about any big displacement cruiser except maybe the Yamaha Roadliner. I've had mine all over Dahlonega, Ga, ripped up and down the Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway and Blue ridge Parkway, through the Smokies and all around the Mountains of NY, NH, VT and up into Maine. We trailered out to California and rode all through the Mountains of Southern and Northern Cali, Oregon and Washington, then back down Pacific Coast Highway. It is a heavy bike, but those big tires also roll over a lot and still grip when other bikes have long since been scraping, or ran out of sidewall.

I’ve owned 6 of them. Yep, that’s right. I would own one then try something else and in the end I would miss the performance. The one I have now is the best one I’ve ever had so I plan on keeping it for a long time.
@justinneill50035 жыл бұрын
I’ve had mine 3 years now and I still think it’s all the bike I will ever need. I was looking that crossover between sports and cruiser and this nails it. The only thing missing for me is ABS, and the only thing I would add to your review is that it also corners real nice as long as you respect the ground clearance and the length of the bike and plan ahead, and that it really isn’t that bad for distance cruising either. I fitted a V-Stream screen on mine and have had no problem clocking 300+ miles on a run, the seat is fab and the clamshell riding position suits me fine. If I ever change it it will probably be for a more recent year of the same model (sadly I think it’ finished production a couple of years back.)

@justinneill5003 Жыл бұрын
@@novaguy509 Wow, yes you’re right. I think it’s only the B.O.S.S. edition now, with the blacked-out styling (my 2007 is the classic black & chrome.) Pity it’s only available now in blue or red though. The silver, grey or black suits this bike better IMO. And I’m amazed that they are still producing this bike without ABS in 2023! I’ll stick with the one I have for now, if it stays in production maybe they’ll add what I want in the future.

Great Video I live in Australia and own a 2008 M109r and a M90 and as much as I love my 109 with the cobra’s and 260 rear end I definitely wouldn’t recommend the bike to someone new to the cruiser market even after coming from big sports bikes it’s all good and well that they might be used to the straight line grunt these things have but with a 240/260 rear end and being so hesitant to pull up quickly they have a horrible habit of getting people into deep shit over here when they realise just how long it takes to get used to how these things break and handle. M90 is a great middle ground for people that are new to the cruiser market and still want some grunt. Btw dude don’t know if it’s your think but mines got a power commander and it’s been lowered 2 inches and it improves the bike 10 fold!!! Sick video tho nice to see someone actually ride these things how there meant to be ridden

The Vmax is not a cruiser. It's not low seat feet forward upright body position. It's mid seat height feet below lean forward position. It's closer to a naked bike than a cruiser though longer than usual. Similarly a XDiavel is a cruiser the Diavel is not.

I love it. I do like the looks. Usually not a fan of the little cowling but this flows really well. Man if I got a cruiser it would have to be a muscle bike like this. I still think the Raider takes my heart but maybe this would be easier to ride? PS I would tour long distance on it.
@JonsMotoGarage5 жыл бұрын
I actually think you would find the raider to be much more user friendly and comfortable. The m109r is straight beast mode, while the raider is a tame lion with the ability to attack! hahaha!
@leighneil79935 жыл бұрын
@@JonsMotoGarage I'm not sure about that. I ride the M109R2 and a good friend has the Raider. Hard to judge with different riding styles perhaps, but the 109 always seems to be a bit smoother and quicker in the twisties, and I happily run two or three hundred mile trips with complete comfort. I find it surprisingly 'chuckable' in the curves, provided you are competent and positive with counter-steering and accept it's huge mass, planning for smooth, early entries and good lines. (Of course, all riding should be like that.) I bought the M109 after about 25yrs away from bikes (although I used to be a M/C traffic cop so I can ride okay) and it has amazed me with how user-friendly, fast and sweet-handling it is for such a massive behemoth.

i should point out there is European version called Intruder VZR1800 - less power than American M109R but has sweet-sweet tuning of engine - its done primary for EU eco standards but actually the engine works way better and is more reliable cause of that (dont "fix" VZRs with Power Commanders guys, just get M109R). Also that mad torque is really useful for skilled riders to achieve smoother slow-boat experience - torque is useful for getting less wonky gear-shifts (English is not native language so my writing may not transfer my thoughts)
