Common problems with 2011-2016 and 2017-2020 Ford diesel trucks explained. My 2011 had a glow plug/valve catastrophic failure and cost me thousands of dollars. I also experienced minor issues that aren't as well known and have done a lot of research on the various model year changes. Let me know if you have any questions.

I currently own 2014, 2015 and 2019 all 6.7 Diesels, Lariat and King Ranch’s. No modifications on any truck except front and rear bumpers. Their great work trucks for hauling and keeping are small businesses running. Once you start modifying the trucks engine for better performance they then become big boy toys. Nothing wrong with that. Great video.

I have a 2016 Platinum with the 6.7 and ZERO issues. I do short trips (taking the kids to school) and long trips (like pulling my 32' 5th wheel with a 4 Door Polaris inside in the heat to the AZ and the local deserts here in CA) and have no problems. Thing is tough as nails. I like to buy the last year of production of a certain body style as they worked out all the kinks and you save some money if you time it right. I also havent messed with the stock config other than a leveling kit, 35s, and some updated LED lighting.

Thanks for the information. I have five comments: 1) I also used to spend a LOT of money modifying engines and transmissions. While it was fun at the time, almost invariably, the changes caused problems which in turn required even more money and time. 2) Mods REDUCE resale value. 3) Many engine related mods are illegal. These will become a real pain when it comes time to sell the truck. 4) Specialty mods mean that the customizer (i.e. YOU) is the ONLY person who can address their specific issues without paying outrageous sums. That's a pain when you'd rather spend your time elsewhere. 5) Despite your effort to create an informative video, it triggered some mean spirited comments. I'm disappointed to see some viewers are so busy cooking up hostile retorts that they can't learn anything. They should just stick to flipping burgers. Based on my experiences with modifying multiple vehicles, I chose to keep my F350 stock, freeing up time and money for other purposes.

@@GRAPPAHOLICS 40 inch?? Yikes! My stock F350 tires are about 31". If you have the most common differential gears for a single rear wheel Diesel (3.55), in order to keep the vehicle speed vs. RPM unchanged, you'd need to swap to a whopping 4.58 differential gear set. Conversely, were you to change the differential in order instead of the tires to achieve the same vehicle speed vs. RPM as the 40 inch tires, you're be running 2.75 gears.

As mentioned the early 6.7 Duel turbo has a ceramic bearing which was prone to failure, throw a tone on it and beat on it on the highest setting it’s going to go. The biggest problem with any Ford is the aftermarket tuner. Folks have to get them to allow the EGR and DPF deletes pass the computers in the truck however, what most folks are doing in addition to that is using the tuner for more power etc. They shouldn't use any setting except for the stock or the next up setting, period. All of the other settings add timing and fuel which do not perform fine enough for the given air intake these trucks can supply. The same volume of air intake with more fuel adds heat and wasted fuel/soot. Timing also add more stress to the crank and lower end than it was designed for. Leave them in stock for...they will live much longer. Use the tuner for other reasons like race power etc. and you too will be buying new engine parts. Diesels so not hot rod like gas engines do without much engineering and other components. Without them, they will fail early.

Then I have friends with new fords and nothing but problems. High school friend of mine bought a brand-new off the lot 2018 Platinum F-450. Truck has been a nightmare for this guy. It’s on the 3rd 6.7 engine now and he had to install an aftermarket steering stabilizer kit because Ford was not able to remedy the death wobble on the front end when he pulled his 36ft race car trailer. Isn’t what the big bad 450s are for?? Pulling big trailers? I did a ton of research before buying a new truck. I bought a 19 Denali Dually truck a few months ago and paid less than then over-priced Fords.cant see paying $10k more for a truck I’m almost guaranteed to have issues with, don’t make a shit ton of sense. Mark McClure The original clean air act stated that off highway vehicles (even production cars turned into track cars) were exempt from emissions. The EPA has recently changed it to say that no vehicle intended for the street can be turned into a race vehicle. This gets rid of the “off road use only” loop hole. No, because of the low back pressure imagine all that hot exhaust escaping rapidly (which is a good thing) and you suddenly take your foot off the gas.....without some back pressure the turbo ends up with a disrupted airflow....it’s not actually the turbo cavitation, it’s the airflow, that’s what trips the engine light. I have put a sports muffler on it and it’s improved but not quite there yet. Btw, I have check the entire diagnostics and the motor is perfect. Mine is 2011 with 110,000km on it (68,000 miles)

I run a 2011 6.7 king ranch (non-epa approved/pavement-princess model). It has 130K on it at the moment, get 20+ miles per gallon and is just smooth running. I replaced the glow plugs 7 months ago as a precaution and run a mini maxx tuner(stock tune-use it as a monitoring device) with 4" straight out. I will replace the Turbo after this year's tax return and I think my truck will have a long life ahead of itself. I never abuse it(hot rod it) and change the filters/oil every 5k with good synthetic oil. I have no fears of this truck shatting the proverbial bed so to speak. That being said I wouldn't shy away from a cheap 2011, just change out the glow plugs as soon as possible with the updated OEM plugs and replace the Turbo with the one this gentleman recommended. I am looking at a 6.7 at a dealership. 2011, 228k miles and they're asking 26k I will only buy if i can get it for 20k. Any advice? I would like a solid answer om how to fix the turbo and glow plug issues.

I have heard some people say it’s a valve that fails which is way more work to address. I would say avoid a 2011 if at all possible

I changed fuel filters followed all instructions and killed batteries how do I jump start it

Did you get it figured out? A lot of times you need another big diesel to jump it if they are completely dead. Little car batteries don’t have enough could cranking amps to get these things going

do you think getting a 2011 ford f350 lariat 6.7, 245k miles for 9k a bad deal? the welder at my job is hooking me up but i don't really know about these trucks. he replaced the transmission about a year ago with a 5 year warranty but i'm not sure if the engine is gonna last any longer.. would appreciate some advice

That is a very reasonable price if it’s in decent condition. I was set back almost 15k when I replaced my engine so if it does fail catastrophically then you’ll be in it over 20k and you might be able to find a better one around that price. Some preventive maintenance could go a long way though

my buddy has a 2018 that is going to be lemon lawed from ford because the ecm failed on it. reason they are buying it back is because ford knows its a problem and is redesigning it apparently and has no date on when the part will be available.

So basically you’re saying the 2011 6.7 is junk. Lol

I was trying to say the 2011s will need more preventative maintenance because they are the first year of the 6.7 Powerstroke. There’s a lot of 2011s with no issues at all.

I'm smart, I own a Cummins no problems, more torque. Ford will always let you down.

Txwelder do you have any more info about your cp4 issue? I haven’t had that problem yet and I hear it costs thousands as well
@ruizg26
@ruizg26 4 жыл бұрын
GRAPPAHOLICS well you know your cp4 is going bad when you start hearing a bunch of whining noise coming from the fuel line in the engine. Once that happens its to late. Now you have metal shavings in your whole fuel system. It ran me about 9k for just the fuel system and the labor plus another 2k to bullet proof and get a new radiator on. I recomend doing a stock pump delete and installing a fass or air dog or some type of after market lift pump and keep the cp4 full of diesel with no air in the lines.
