Ford tech here. A bit of smoke out of the oil cap is normal, your friends 6.7 seemed more smokey than normal though. Just as long as there is not positive or negative pressure when you put your hand on it. Will be a bit hard to tell since he has a CCV reroute. If you’re concerned about the compression, have the dealership do a relative compression test on IDS. The 6R140 trans in the 6.7 is stout as fuck, too. It’ll take a beating. He must have a 11-14, because he has the twin scroll/dual boost turbo. They’re not bad turbos, but definitely not like the 15+ turbo that went back to a 6.0/Duramax style. You can actually retrofit the 2015+ 6.7 turbos using all factory parts.

the trans is stout but not in the stock config. the valve body needs work and also the stock 11-14 turbos are garbage if you dont delete on day one because it will eat the bearings in the turbo. ask me how i know. i lost my exhaust wheel on a mild acceleration pull. it shot out into a corn field... as far as the blow by vapor mine has done it from day one and have done plenty of testing to see if there were issues with the rings or a broken ring land and everything comes back fine. my engine is about to get pulled to fix the cam gear issue because of my power level right now. i dont want the gear spinning on the cam and fixing the horribly designed double oil pan leak.

@@nmjm31 my truck is your twin except i have the tan interior panels instead of the darker gray or black. i have the 64.5 also and love it. my truck has the same amount of blow by vapor and i beat on my truck every time i drive it so id say your fine i also run high boost pressure with the turbo. probably around 50-60 psi so from what i see from the video is normal for me but thats just my two cents on it from experience on beating the dog crap out of my engine.

Could still argue that about a 6.9 vs 7.3 idi for example. Either the studs need reinforcing and you don't have overdrive, or you need to do serious work to get rid of the cavitation issue. Ultimately could have a sweet ride in any case, but no truck is truly perfect. Definitely would love an all mechanical truck eventually though.

The “smoke” out of the oil cap is somewhat normal on these 6.7. Mine was doing it brand new, my friend bought his new as well and I asked him to check his at 5k miles and it was doing the same thing. What you don’t want is pressure in the oil cap. It it pops then you have an issue

Minute 9:00, spray bottle with water and some dawn dish soap in it. Not sure if it would affect anything but that’s what we use on dive boats to find leaks in our compressors, bailout tanks, etc. just look for any large bubbles. Saves time rather than trying to feel where the air is coming from. I’m not a mechanic so not sure if that would be all that helpful but just thought I’d share. Cool truck

I had a ccv reroute and had blow by. I then put the stock ccv filter on an the blow by went away. It’s because when the ccv hose is routed into into the turbo it pulls a vacuum on the crank case so when people do a reroute there isn’t negative pressure and therefore creates blow by.

I've seen on a similar style air intake system where you reroute the ccv system through an aftermarket ccv where a incorrect bolt had been put in and wasn't allowing crank case pressure through and was causing excessive pressure through the cap.now that style of ccv was a type of air oil separated and was too far down causing it too stay closed.now you might have a different style of aftermarket ccv however I'd make sure it venting correctly and allowing enough pressure through and not restricting.aftermarket parts can be hit or miss, even if it is venting it may not be enough.

alot of vapor from the crank case when idling is pretty common with the 6.7 engines because i believe the ring gap is decently large for higher boost application. vapor doesnt mean a whole lot as long as you dont dont have excessive pressure coming out of your oil fill or your crank case vent. also idk if that piping kit works with the stock ccv but if it has the stock ccv get rid of it and go with a good ccv kit because if the vent is clogged which is common it will build more pressure.

We are ALL overpaying for new or used, me included! My 2012 KR F350 DRW Had 28,800 miles on it and I gave $50k for it 5/22. Same colors. Love it, so worth it to me, it did have everything and some extras. Private party, owned by an airline pilot, garaged, looks new, everything aok so far, now with 30k miles. If I keep it 20 years the price really won't matter much. New one is 95k, so.... yeah it's all relative. 50k was below black wholesale. Pilot went and bought a f450 Platinum for $105k, so were all paying bigger bucks than just a few years back.

I've had multiple 6.7 trucks in at my work as we work on a large fleet of f450 trucks. There's been a few trucks with the crank case filter clogging and causing excessive pressure but that's a simple fix. Just had to replace the filter. There's been a few deleted trucks in with the ccv reroute and I'm not a fan of the reroute kits. They've all smoked like that and it just doesn't seem like a good kit to me. Ccv hose is kinked. Cut the hose short and let it vent to the atmosphere. Route it over the brake booster and down beside the shock. Avoid a catch can in really cold temps. Condensation freezes and will cause increased crank case pressure and puke oil through the turbo and out the exhaust. Make you think the motor blew. I have a 15 King Ranch I’ve spent some money on. Learning things the hard way. I’ve learned quite a bit over the 2.5 yrs I’ve owned mine. Bought it with 75k miles, it now has 113k miles. Did some research and was able to pick up an LBZ with under 100,000 miles in the Southwest no rust for 29 plus taxes and fees. It took me two and a half months and had to travel close to 300 miles so I hope I made a good purchase

Best ford engine was the 7.3 still got one on the road with over 500 thousand with the original engine. LBZ to me was the best engine Chevy put out

agree, unfortuanely the 7.3 is a dawg and can't pull much weight. Well, that is if you want to go over 35 mph.

I bought a 6.0 diesel brand new at 27k miles the motor needed to be rebuilt! A few years later bought a 3.5 EcoBoost and it was in the shop 12 times before I sold it under 50k miles. Never ever buy a ford again.

Fresh motor new ringd. Little blow by. Is normal. Give it a few thousand miles. Then rings should seat. If it blows cap off. You have issues.

If its a new motor in that truck the rings are probably not seated yet thats probably why it has a little blow-by.

Glow plugs weren’t the issues with the early trucks. It dropped a valve and took the glow plug tip off.

Best way to bulletproof a ford is to weld 2 large hooks to the front bumper so all u need is some chain to pull it home

The blow by on that truck is nothing to be concerned about. Seeing vapor is pretty common, but as long as there is no pressure, then the truck is healthy. As far as the issue of the glow plug breaking, it’s actually the exhaust valves on the 2011 trucks with a build date prior to 04/11 on the the door. There was a bad batch of metal and over time the valves crack and break. Pieces fall into the combustion chamber and mash up the piston and break the glow plug tip as a result. That’s where this truck most likely had it’s failure come from. It also has a non-VGT kit on it as well, looks like a Smeding piping kit and most likely a Smeding turbo. That should be a pretty reliable setup over the GT32 found on the 11-14 trucks from the factory.

A breather oil cap helps this. Relief of all the positive crank case pressure w the junk ccv the 6.7s have. Mine was clogged and started to cause some smoke until I put the billet breather oil cap from UPR on. Totally recommend
