There's been a flood of these on the market in unissued condition lately. I keep buying them since they're so cheap right now. I have a 72, 85, 01, 03 and an 04. All with the straps, clips, and canteens. Unfortunately all in OD green. Still don't have a tan one yet. It's interesting how the shade of green changes with different manufacturers. Or decades. I've noticed a difference between 80's , 90's , and early 2000's. I like the 80's color for some reason more than the others. Off topic: I've also noticed a flood of unissued and still tied with string Alice suspenders. I've been putting together multiple kits, along with medium Alice packs with frames. Mostly because I have a problem, and can't stop buying gear 😆. Love your content btw.

You earned a subscriber with this video. I've had my qenuine USGI 1 quart and pouch/cup for decades but I've just now got a 2 quart in OD green with NBC cap and desert pouch/strap. Everything seems new and legit. I love the design. It was educational hearing you talk about the years, types, origin, and development...

I have several of genuine GI of these , i the summer I freeze water in the canteen and always have ice cold water all day. They are great to use on canoe or kayak trips. These more modern ones have the the nylon double hook straps.

One thing I'll add, I don't think you mentioned, between the differences between the real ones and the fakes is the water purification table pocket. The pocket on your fake example seems smaller than the real one. A fake I have the pocket is a much different design compared to the real ones.

That’s awesome I think I did a video on the NBC Cap. If I remember right it come out in about 1968. It stands for nuclear biological chemical, I believe I have a video on that type of canteen cap thanks for watching

those are at least a couple of repros made of fairly good quality. i have one which is all through terrible. the cover made of flimsy nylon, the stitching not very good, instead of pelt there is felt in the inside, there is always a synthetic smell inside the canteen itself, the plastic is stiff and not foldable when empty and it goes on. even the 10 bucks i paid for it are too much. but it works i must admit. i can transport almost 2 extra liters of water when i go out camping and the cap does not leak.😆
