Citizen practically invented the solar watch with the Eco-Drive. In my mind, they are still the one's to beat. Everyone else is playing catch up. You can get Eco-Drives in almost any style. From Dress watches, to sports watches, chrono's and divers. There's an Eco-Drive in whatever style you wish. I have six, myself.

Seiko and citizen solar powered does not have hibernating mode. Casio once you put in total darkness. They totally stopped and saving their power and automatically turned on when they detect light source. I hate when my solar powered watch battery totally empty, I have to put them a while in direct sun to make sure the second hand ticking properly. Whereas automatic we just shake it or hand wound it. Yes there are plus and minuses. But that's from my own experience point. So when you have solar powered seiko or citizen, you have to put them under sunlight once a day in every couple months. But if you wear it daily, they work like a powerhouse.

I have a solar Casio Oceanus and I love it. I always know the exact time to the 100th of a second or so and it is beautiful. I put it on a rubber navy blue strap though. Nice video, thanks.

Nicely done video and great explanations, for me I would actually go with Citizen for solar, had one for over 10 years with no problems and still solid as ever. But Casio and Seiko are brilliant options too.

Good video, I've had an interest in both of these. I have 5 Citizens, all eco drives, the eldest dates from 2009, all working perfectly. I have a Quartz Omega Seamaster and an Automatic Omega Plabet Ocean. Both of the Omegas have broken down, dead battery or servicing needed. The Citizens? Never..
