As fascinating as this film clip is it's an eye opener to the possibility of human error at any level of command from all branches of our military. another great writeup in your description David Hoffman.

What a intense thing to learn. The 80s were such a important time for the Cold War, and I can't even imagine the anxiety felt in that Sub.

The level of extreme proficient is a understanding and respect. Now, think of this; it's shot in a old format. Do you question the military? Or do you question the generation?

What an intense situation. They never know whether it's a real order or a drill. I don't know how they handle it so calmly. Personally, I think you were very brave to go under the water in the submarine. I'm not claustrophobic, but the thought of being surrounded by water, even in a submarine, makes me very nervous.

I believe they are told if it’s a drill or not, honestly not sure back then. For me they always tell us if it’s a drill but I’m on ship so it might be different.

David Hoffman I was 10 in 1986, being born in 1976 that make me 10 years old in 1986, I like the navy growing up. I have learning disabilities so I did Commercial Art in highschool instead, I like art also a lot I choose to do that. This video is interesting being on the sub looking all the work there doing they probably are order to do this. Thanks for sharing David Hoffman film maker 🎥🎞️ 🙂👋

If full nuclear war broke out, everything is destroyed, can those sub survive under the water and for how long?
@mrradio2187
@mrradio2187 Жыл бұрын
Depends where the sub is located and the ability, if any, to re-supply, Even if you could surface the chances of radiation contamination would be everywhere. Good plot for a movie I think..

They can stay under water for quite a few months. The real issue is finding a place to land that isn't completely decimated or an active fallout area. Could probably find somewhere in Africa or south America, they'd be unlikely to be directly involved in a nuclear exchange.
@elenabob4953
@elenabob4953 Жыл бұрын
Except the fact that many submarines are nuclear so you have from the beginning a limited time in service on such a ship.
@thatoneguyinthecomments2633
@thatoneguyinthecomments2633 Жыл бұрын
@@elenabob4953 I would assume the reactor is shielded. Frankly a nuclear submarine wouldn't be useful if the crew were constantly exposed to radiation levels significantly above normal background levels. With even simple detectors it would be pretty easy to identify areas with higher than normal dose rates and limit access. Frankly the fact they are underwater a good chunk of the time means much of the crew(particularly those who do not work on or around the reactor) may be exposed to LESS radiation than the average person.

Sadly nuclear weapons have keep the world from going into global wars for over 75 years... before nukes the world have global wars every 20 years or so... nukes have prevented that, for now everyone is afraid to go into global wars given they can escalate into nuclear war, which would be the end of the world. USS Henry M. Jackson SSBN-730, Blue Crew 1990-1994 here, many memories....
