I went to the shelter today to visit "Bear"! Everyone would be thrilled to hear that he seems very happy and energetic! He has a little red squeaky bone toy that he loves. He licked my hand immediately and rubbed his head on my legs and arms, eager for affection. What a sweetheart!

I agree with you about the owner, however, what if he was stollen several months back and the burglars starved him and then took him to a different state. Would you still feel that way about the owner? In my mind I am praying that some scenario like that is the reason he is so emaciated. So that I can still feel there is some humanity left in this world. I just don’t want to know if someone did this on purpose.

@paulsimin-gv6jj because starved animals have a tendency of overeating. They eat and eat because they think they won't get another meal, and then they vomit. Talking as a person who's rescued 6 stray cats (only 6 because I have to take them in, shelters in my city are full and they just leave animals to freeze during winters, and there's no law to regulate people who cast away their own pets). 4 of those cats could have a full bowl all the time, while other 2 needed a year to adjust to their new reality because they were eating to the point of vomitting.

i do want to say, it could honestly be accidental. imagine you just moved to a new area and your dog got out, you can't find him and he can't find his way back home because he doesn't recognize the place and home doesn't smell quite like home yet. i do hope wherever he winds up he's safe and loved, be it reunited with his family or adopted into a new home.

Oh my God. What a beautiful dog this boy is. You have inspired me as a 63 y/o disabled man to help my local shelter. Iv been a animal lover my entire life. I've never met a animal i couldn't sit down with and draw them to me. My mother used to say i had a gift. She wanted me to go to veterinarian school. I foolishly choose another path. An older bunny is similar to a dog in personality (not as exhausting as a baby). They need a lot of love and attention, but will give loads of ❤. I have a baby bun and when I am exhausted (he is 12 hours a day), I am reward with a nose bump or paws on my lap..or sometimes if I am.lucky licks! I recommend you might want to look into it!

A week and still so emaciated? I had a stray show up even worse than him and after a week he looked better, so no way of knowing how bad he really started out. I found him in a small open run in had for my pygmy goats, he just wanted a place to die in peace. He lived, was. Blue Tick and found a good home. He was a good dog, very sweet and appreciative.

Thanks for the update. I am SO happy for him! We now all need to pray that Bear's new owner has patience with him and doesn't return him to the shelter. I adopted a malnourished pit bull mix seven years ago. She was found wandering the streets and looked like Bear, only not quite as bad. The amazing thing is that she was such a happy girl, given her situation. She was the first dog listed when I Googled "Pit Bull Rescue in Phoenix." The next day, I called the Scottsdale Pet Hotel 15 minutes after they opened, and told them I wanted "Patty." I heard a huge sigh, followed by, "We just opened and you're the 20th person who's called. Whoever gets here first can have her if they check out." I got there first, sat on the floor, she came out, butt wiggling, tail wagging. She laid down and was on her back for belly rubs almost immediately. They microchipped her and I got her tags. The fact that she came already trained made me shake my head that she had no tags and wasn't already microchipped when found. Have had her ever since, and she's the best dog I've ever had. The kids on the playground see her, yell, "Chloe's here!" and come over to see her. I took her to the vet to be checked out. When the vet tech stuck a thermometer up her backside, her butt wiggled, her tail wagged, and she was licking the vet's hand! He laughed and said, "I've been a vet for decades, and I've NEVER seen a dog this happy to have her temperature taken!" LOL Adopting "Patty," who I renamed "Chloe," was the best thing I've ever done.

My sister fostered a Norwegian Elkhound who was starving on the streets of Orlando Florida. The microchip showed an address in New Jersey but no one responded. One can only wonder how a rare purebred ended up thousands of miles away. I think he may have been stolen then he was abandoned or escaped.

A lot of him is from a Dobermann. An Adoption is what he needs, Dobies are so sensitive, wonderful Dogs. I had 5 of them, the last was a rescue and perhaps a mix, I don’t know. And the best of this dog are the uncutted ears and the long tail, it makes a Dobermann so much more beautiful 🤩! Here all Breeds are uncutted, they are Mother Nature made them ❤

These are all fair points. If he's been missing for a while, then that's one thing. The owner, with some guidance, could rehabilitate him. If however he's not been gone long and the owner essentially abandoned him, then the owner should absolutely not have a second chance. Because if this happened again, the dog might not make it.

His ears are too small for either full Viszla or Weimaraner, which, in other comments, I said he could also be a mix of. Male Viszlas can go almost 30” from floor to shoulder, so as a mix, he could easily be. Could also be a tri mix w/Dobi....those ears. I think he’s too long legged & body, to be Lab. Regardless, he’s gorgeous, even malnourished. And his temperament also has V traits. I hope we get to see him filled out & in his forever home.♥

The darker area is more likely the lighting/shadowing in that small space, since you see him look like he’s darker in spots when he moves & the lighting plays w/his coat...then goes back to looking like it did before. The light never hits under his neck or ears...which, again I specifically called out as being too small for a full breed. Rocky also said he has skin issues. I never stated he was a purebred anything. I stated the more dominant breed. There are Vs that are larger...much larger...than the accepted show dog standards. They’re on line. I can’t post a link. I’ll be disciplined by Ittube for it. There’s a V Forum of ppl saying the size of their Vs, w/pics. All blow the standards out of the water. And a few are def similar in size of this guy. But *_again,_** I don’t believe he’s full Viszla.* I do believe that’s the *dominant* breed in him, however. I’ve worked w/tons of dogs in rescue, rehab & training, for years. I’m sticking by my personal take. V/Weim, or V/Dobi mix. Or, a better bet than a Dobi mix, a V/Rhodi mix. Which would encompass his ears. And also fit well w/his personality. You don’t have to agree. @@humans.from.earth. It's still an unfamiliar dog and given it's condition you can't be certain that it doesn't have triggers, it's come from a neglectful situation, if not abusive. It's just common sense to be careful when the dog is a stray and new to the shelter. I'm not saying he's faultless but he's been helping dogs for ages, I'm sure he knows what's best in that situation to keep everyone safe and happy. It could be as simple as wanting to keep the dog calm or encouraging boundaries for the dog that'll benefit it's future owners (assuming the dog is taken from its negligent owner).

This is how our rescue Labrador looked when we adopted her. Now instead of being fearful, afraid of everything, hiding all the time, she's thriving. We could count her ribs. Looks like a Vizsla! All the characteristics of that breed. They are a prized dog. They are usually bought from breeders. And they are expensive - up to $3000. Leave this breed in a cage they will stop eating. They are very high energy dogs. It's torture. I've owned two of them. Loyal, affectionate, family dog. So beautiful of a dog.

We rescued a dog 15 years ago from a no kill shelter. We didn't know her history but my son picked her out of a cage of five dogs. He felt there was just something special about her. This was our first dog for our family and she was one years old when we adopted her. It was a wonderful experience for our family and she lived a happy fourteen years with us. I would recommend a rescue to anyone!

I had a rough vet appointment this morning with my 12 year old malipoo. Decisions need to be made, and it’s heartbreaking. Knowing dogs like Bear are out there, waiting to be loved, whenever my home and heart are ready for another helps tonight. ❤. Thank you. I sure hope Bear is living his best life now!

I'm so sorry. You've obviously given a lot of love to your furbaby over those years (and no doubt received lots in return!) so ever having to say good bye has got to hurt no matter what. I'm so sorry! My sister had to make that decision with her 15 year old Maltese last December. Whatever happens, know that you're doing all you can for your dog. I learned that through many sessions with my animal communicator and my pets.

So glad he was adopted. I have a rescue dog that dug in my backyard 9 years ago. Was chipped and fixed. Owners said they’d given her away and would have owners call me. They never did. Changed her to my name 2 years in - she’s amazing, but an escape artist. She’s almost 11 now. ❤❤❤

This may not be because of owners. Dogs get out, they get loose. I hope they found the owner and got the story. Babysitters don't pay attention even family can be pretty stupid. Since he had a microchip I suspect that the family decided not to get him or the number is old. That's a purebred Viszla IMHO. They are high energy hunting dogs.

I love what this guy does and do not want to take away from that but when I watch this video I see a very high energy dog and it truly would not take him long to get to this point if he was separated from his family and lost. His coat still has a shine to it. I am not a vet so I cannot speak to the skin condition. His eyes were also clear. These are not always cases of neglect. Me personally if I lost my dog I would be out looking 24/7 until I found him and would do everything to prevent it from happening to begin with but not everyone is like me. We are in an age of technology and it saddens me when assumptions are put on the internet when this could have been an accident, the family may want him back and now will be shamed or to put it out to gain donations. There are absolutely some that can be called neglect right up front but this one I am not so sure about.

This dog has an amazing soul. You can tell by looking into his eyes. When you look into his eyes it's like he's saying"please love me"....thanks for all your support for this guy. "He's a good dog"...he truly is
