Apologies about the edit on this one guys, Universal not only wanted to demonetise it, but also wanted to block the entire video from being published at all... I was determined to let you all see this movie commentary, and sadly this is the only edit that would do. Fingers crossed we can get back to normal on the next one - but i hope you enjoy it still!

Great job! We appreciate it! The only "horror" movies I watch are what my dad and I call "monster movies". We know we are taking about a horror movie about a giant animal like "Jaws, Lake Placid or Anaconda", not movies about made up monsters. We love em! Although it makes me crazy how in all of them the make the animals roar/ scream. Even the snake in Anaconda roars!! 😂

That's ok. I've seen it and it is pretty funny. The shark looks worse than the shark used in Jaws. The scene when Michael is pulled out of the water just in time for the rubber shark to rub up against the boat was comical. For the time period, that was good special affects. As the Jaws franchise moves forward, the plots get worse and the sharks are just lacking. Have you watched Jaws The Revenge. They have the shark roaring..... Oh well, it's entertainment.

Surprised that you didn't comment on the most incredible aspect of this film: the shark's metabolism. The kill count is like 12 people (how many thousands of calories is that?) in one weekend and Jaws hasn't even gained any weight! First saw this when it hit cable TV (HBO) in the summer of 1980 with a few friends in a neighborhood watch party of sorts. We were laughing far more than we were scared; in fact, I don't recall anyone being frightened. I remember everyone laughing when the shark decided to take a bite out of the boat after eating the water skier.

If it wasn't for the Jaws movies I'd never be interested in Sharks. Since I was 5-6 I have been interested in them and read so many books on them. I never once thought they all needed to be wiped out because they attack humans and watching the Jaws movies never made me think they were mad killing machines, but boy oh boy Jaws and Jaws 2 are great films to enjoy. Obviously the first movie is the daddy.

I think I agree that while nothing beats the original 'Jaws 2' was actually an okay sequel, all things considered. I remember how excited I was when I was a kid and I discovered Jaws had sequels. I got Jaws 2, 3, and 4 on DVD for my birthday, and Jaws 2 was definitely my favourite of the bunch. p.s. If you want a truly bad shark movie that might be good for a laugh, I'd suggest "Dark Waters." It's pretty terrible.

2 shark video ideas... 1) Sharks in Alaska? Are there Great Whites in Alaska? I've found equal information saying yes and no. Also sites claiming everything from Alaska having 3 species up to 10 species? Maybe you have more resources or access to some proof via tracking info? 2) Video about sawsharks and/ or sawfish and the differences. (I know saw fish are rays, but still super cool and very endangered)

@@SHARKBYTES Thank you! I was doing some research a few nights ago about sawfish. Specifically their population status and current ranges. Also trying to find out if they are still reaching the massive sizes they once did. It's not really looking good for them. But in my research, I learned about the sawshark. I didn't even know that was a thing and I thought I knew a lot about sharks. Very excited to learn there were whole families of sharks I could learn about, but I couldn't find much information about them. As for Alaska, the differences between the numbers of GWs in Alaska made it quite confusing. I'd love to hear about some actual data or maybe if anyone has tagged/ tracked them there?? Anyway, I know you are busy. IF you have time, I know I would find whatever you learned about these sharks fascinating. Thank you for all you do. Much love from Minnesota, USA.

Good review!!!!! One of the things that was being "taught" back in the 1970s when the original JAWS and this movie came out was if you are in the water with sharks TRY TO STAY AS STILL AS POSSIBLE, the shark is only attracted to movement, thus WHY Michael Brody did NOT get eaten in the first movie when he fell into the water and that guy in that tiny rowboat did AND why he did NOT get eaten in this movie for he was knocked unconscious even though he had blood oozing from a head wound. Also, though have seen this movie like a ga-billion times have NEVER noticed that yellow barrel at Brody's house - makes sense after being pointed out!!

I've watched this movie for YEARS and never notices the hydraulic piston in the sharks mouth when it grazes the boat when Mike gets pulled out of the water. My girlfriend thought when Brody went to shoot the blue fish passed the kid, he really shot at the kid. She said "Oh my God he shot the kid!" I then had to clean off Pepsi from everything. I love the daily jaws. I think the scream came from the girl who did nothing but scream. Now I'll always hear "here's johnny!" on that part. Can't wait to see you critique Jaws 3 and 4 lmao! I rank my favorite Jaws films in the order they came out. They went drastically downhill after 2

JAWS 2 is a sensational movie!! Saw it as a kid in the summer of 1978 in the theatre and adored it. Liked it so much I went to see it again (and again after that). It really plays well on the silver screen. Considering he had very little prep time (after the first Director was "dismissed") Jeannot Szwarc did a great job with it.

By the way, the reason for the dead orca on the beach, is that it is a reference to the previous years film, Orca (1977) about a man-eating orca that, in the opening scene, kills a white shark in a rather peculiar manner. The dead Orca is then the Jaws rebuttal of the opening to Orca.;p

Jaws was a better shark film than it had any right to be. Jaws 2 has no way of measuring up to that, but as a sequel film and as a shark film it really does try hard on both accounts. I actually love Brody's character arc in this film because while his actions do seem over the top, you can't help but sympathise with him after what happened to him in the last film. The scene where he confronts the mayor and the other major people in town is genuinely harrowing because the police chief himself does not want to go through that experience again and the audience can't blame him in the slightest.

Sharkskin is great. Handles of swords have been covered with it for centuries as it provides a not slip grip regardless how much sweat or blood if lying about. In defense of the speedboat woman. She picked up the first heavy thing at hand to throw at the shark which had just crashed through the side of her boat. No excuses for not having the lid secured. Then being American she grabbed for a gun shapped object - obviously on the boat for self defense. What worries me more is that Chief Brodie thought that he would get any penetration shooting his pistol at a shark in the water.

Hi, I'm part of a water ski club here in the US! You're not super far off on the low end of your boat speed estimate, but I don't think that boat's going that fast. Unless you're doing tricks or running a speed slalom course, most casual skiers prefer the boat to go between 15 and 20 miles per hour depending on the weight. I'm 5' 3" and 160 pounds and my preferred speed would be about 17mph (I don't ski anymore, too many injuries every time I tried). Wakeboards go a little slower than that so they have a deeper wake to play with and jump off of. Barefoot skiers however do get up to speeds of 35 to 40 miles per hour consistently to compensate for the lack of buoyant skis on their feet!

Second best shark film. It has some very good acting, a decent script and an excellent score. No other shark film apart from Jaws and Jaws 2 has all that.

Loved the reaction to this one. Made me laugh. Also wondering what your opinion is of Valerie Taylor. I like her raw films of sharks (at least what I think are raw films) but I was wondering on an expert's opinion if I should continue to watch her movie/documentary.

Valerie Taylor and her husband Ron were pioneers, often doing what science couldn't at the time. For example it was Ron who was not only the first man to film a great white shark underwater, but he was also the first man to tag a great white and to take its temperature. This was all pre Jaws, before great whites became fashionable to science.

About the parasailing... It just goes to show how CRAZY the world is! I've often wondered if I would like parasailing. I decided that I wouldn't like to over land because- owww! Falling/ landing looks to much like the same thing and the ground hurts, but then I could always picture doing over the ocean and looking down at the silhouette of a shark! Before that Red Sea incident I KNEW that a shark attacking me while parasailing was nonsense! But... Maybe I will try it over a lake near home in Minnesota USA. I don't think even bull sharks have made it here yet. I know, I know, the chances of... But the guy who lost his foot KNEW he was safe too!

I must admit, I rewatched Jaws 2 recently too and it was better than I remember it. It is definitely a watchable movie (though not my fave Jaws sequel) and has some great moments in it. I particularly like Marge's death in the movie simply because it is so harrowing and brutal. Pure nightmare fuel when the shark is coming at her underwater and then just devours her whole. A little fun fact about Jacqui in the movie. Just like you, I used to get really annoyed about her screaming in the movie, particularly the bit which you show in your review, which comes across as OTT in the finished film. I have since discovered, however, that that particular shot was intended for a completely different scene. In this scene, the character Bob was meant to be thrown into the water along with the others. Instead of swimming to cable junction, he instead goes for the upended boat which Sean was on earlier. This time, however, the shark heads straight for Bob and bites him in two, causing his upper half to, well, bob in the water. The scream from Jacqui was intended to be at this moment and was her reaction to seeing Bob being bitten in two. No clip of this scene has yet surfaced however I hope one day it does, along with the footage John Hancock filmed for the movie before being replaced as director. I imagine it is all somewhere in the Universal vault.

First time I saw this movie as a kid, it was playing on TV, and the underwater portion of the helicopter attack was in the cut. That scene in particular stuck with me, and the next time I saw the movie, that scene was missing. I totally agree, it should be edited back in. My little kid brain remembered it being even more terrifying/awesome than it is. Overall, a really good sequel that had no right to be as good as it is. Everyone gave their all, and it shows. Interestingly, Roy Scheider was not happy with the story, and the shoot was even more miserable (at least for him) than the first film. But you'd never know from his performance.

I think I saw Jaws 2 on tv at some point during the 90s. It's not a terrible sequel, particularly compared to 3 & 4, but I found plot-wise it pretty much just retreads the first film without adding much apart from giving Ellen Brody more to do.

10:22 this girl was actually supposed to be swallowed whole, but they were unable to time the shark coming out of the water with the divers pulling her under to make the shot work. Instead, we're left with this sort of half breach horizontal attack.

If it helps to solve the mystery of why there is a dead orca in this film, in 1977 Dino diLaurentis released the Jaws knock-off "Orca." (maybe worth a review?) At one point in that film, they throw down the gauntlet by having the title character attack a white shark. The Jaws franchise appears here to be picking up that gauntlet...

I didn’t realize they made a second (or third…or fourth…) Jaws, but like you said, it’s not horrible. And I actually kind of liked this style of editing (especially the “hereeeeesss Johnny!”). When you do the commentary over the film’s sound, my ADHD brain focuses on you and your voice in the separate bubble, so it just cut out the piece I was already ignoring by putting your bubble in the center. We could still see and understand what was happening but it wasn’t sensory overload. Idk, I liked it! Well done! Thank you for this- it’s been a rough week here, I definitely needed a new Shark Bytes movie commentary to help me feel a little better. Cheers to all the work these movie commentaries take! So, I dunno if you ever read the novel of Jaws 2, but in it they eistablish a little about the sharks "motivation" for attacking the boats and other large things, which was namely that the shark was a pregnant female (implied to be the original sharks mate) and that she was perparing to give birth, and that the boat attacks where "territorial behavior" to drive any "large comptiator creatures" that might threaten her offspring "out of the area" IIRC the novel also notes she literally gives birth juuuuuuuuust before Brody kills her
