I remember watching that full episode when it aired several years ago and something about the way she hit her dad and Johnny Depp struck a chord. Her dad seemed relaxed as if he knew his daughter wouldn’t truly hurt him. Johnny Depp however, laughed on the outside but his body language told a different story. Some people do push or slap when playing around, but it's always lightly done and playful. My friends and I do it all the time. Her action here isn't what shows her violence. There is something in it that does, though. It's not that she slaps him playfully (that can happen in general), it's that he reacts by backing away. When friends and family playfully slap each other like that, there may be a slight flinch or the person may not react in body language at all, but may just laugh. Johnny stepped back away from the group circle. That shows fear. It's a natural response for someone who's undergoing abuse from the person who "playfully" slapped them.

My friends and I hit playfully all the time. The only one I complain about is my sis. She punches my arm playfully. I hate it. I keep telling her, the reason my friends and I can do this is because we don't have closed fists. It only hurts a very little bit and I know she doesn't mean harm, so other than an "Ow!" My oldest sister was abused by her ex, and there's no way in hell she would've hit him like that knowing how crazy he was....particularly in front of other people and in public.
