This has to be one of THE most relatable KZbin titles I have ever seen. SO much of my car building project have been EXACTLY this. XD

Definitely, there’s been many a time I’ve failed creatively but had the good sense not to film it and put it on KZbin 😅
@TheOnlyToblinАй бұрын
@@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness I uh...might have not had that sense. XD For instance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnWamZyMasRpnpYsi=w8vwX5nmzrEoy3ac&t=292

Sorry if it's a bit late but I would have recommended sticking something through the hole and prying up to slide the lower shield forward and down off (the prying device) and over the studs. My Oldsmobile's exhaust shield came off nicely.... the first time. Then the smaller shield had one bolt round, and both bolts snapped on the larger shield. Now I don't have a shield there. lol. It just never seemed worthwhile replacing as I always planned to swap the entire exhaust system. Now... Maybe I will? Maybe I just buy some wrap. ...Maybe I pull everything out and waste a lot of time drilling the bolts out.

I did try something like that off camera before the whole clamp debacle but no luck 😕

I love the project but I believe to finish it faster, you should completely disassembly the whole car until the last screw. But keep going mate

You have no idea how tempting that is, I’d love to completely restore her to factory fresh 😅

I don't know about other people but I have definitely had my share of long drawn out struggles being forced to use some weird solution involving tools that aren't meant to function in the way I am using them.
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness2 ай бұрын
Yep, I wasted a couple of hours on this endeavour when it would probably take 5 min with the welder to fix, mostly because I was too lazy to get the welder out 😖

Small world, we're in Ilfracombe now, so still not too far away. Yeah that would be cool, and I'd be happy to give you a hand on your MR2 if you ever need it. Drop me an email on eaub@mattbearman.com

The moment you think maybe a clamp on a clamp will work, it's over. Those holes were meant to be slots anyway...
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusinessАй бұрын
I’m reluctant to grind out the holes as it’s super awkward to access and will make a hell of a mess. I’ll see how welding on a new nut goes first

I think the similarity of steel to rubber is often overstated. Rubber, in my experience, is significantly easier to stretch than steel. In actual fact, although steel is not infinitely stiff, for our purposes we can regard as being impossible to stretch, so after you take up any slack, applying further tension is not a plan worth pursuing. The foregoing represents quite possibly the most intense effort at politeness that I've ever expended. I'm all tired out now and it's your fault. I hope you're proud of yourself. 😉

Ratchet strap around the motor would have done it
@FixingWithFriends2 ай бұрын
Ah moving the motor rather than the exhaust, not a bad idea.

Damn, I'm gonna have to try that now

@@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness the shield should move before whatever you strap it to, just make sure you don't run it over anything softer than the shield.

With ideas like that how did you ever get Misty this far 😂 TBH I'd be stuck under the car crying 😆

I’m not sure the idea was the problem, more the lack of foresight to actually try it 😅 plus I just cut the parts with me crying under the car out of the video

Elongate the holes and then use an oversized washer to tighten it down afterwards?
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusinessАй бұрын
That’s plan C as access isn’t great and I don’t really want to get grinding dust in the engine bay. Gonna try welding on a new nut first
@2BugsandaBack2 ай бұрын
Couldn't you just turn the hole into a slot, then use a large washer under the nut to hold the heat shield in place?

Have you got an abcess in your mouth? i'm still awaiting mot, though i had done enough then horn wasn't working (wire had came off), wiper linkage was seized (3 days in oil & hammered loose), was cutting out when warm (managed to maipulate the throttle cable so it revs just a bit higher, I cant get the stupid japanese screws for tps off - yes coolant has been bleed) & low oil level light is on! the wire was broken so fixed that but the sensor itself must be gone cos its still coming on (yes i have power on other side of my repair). I've got same handbrake problem you had, catching driverside but not on passenger side. hoping to test drive & get fuel today . test on tues.

I spent the first five minutes trying to figure out what you were trying to do, and the next five minutes thinking that will never work. But I stayed to the end because if it's stupid and it works, it isn't stupid.
