You made me cry. At 75, no one looks my way. I am invisible, sometimes to my own family. I was on a cruise not too long ago. In the elevator a man who appeared intoxicated pointed to me and said to other passengers, "look at that old lady on a cruise." "What is she doing here?" Of course everyone was embarrassed, just put their heads down and said nothing. I said nothing as well. Just a sour note to a cruise I had been looking forward to. It is true. When you get old, you are no longer considered vibrant, relevant. Makes me sad.....

It made my heart sing. I was with my bloke, who doesn’t like my choices in clothes. I was wearing a simple but cool all over patterned jumpsuit, few subtle coloured braids in long hair.No makeup. I'm a 42 year old woman, and I went to Wal-Mart. This beautiful, gorgeous lady cashier. She seemed to be 55-60 . She had her nails, white hair and make up done beautifully. After I paid for my stuff i said "thank you, you're gorgeous " she couldn't believe i had complimented her. She looked so happy and said thank you" almost like she wanted to cry. Like it had been a long time someone noticed her and gave her a compliment. Im so happy I made her day.

I am now 81 years old. As a young woman, men would turn around in the street to look at me. I was married all of my young life. Now the older I get the less attention I get. My mother was very beautiful - movie star beautiful - glamorous. Getting old was really hard for her. She was a violinist and a painter. She had many other attributes beside her beauty. But when it started to fail, she felt that she had no identity. I am now an "old lady" for sure, and my sweet neighbors give me compliments. I appreciate them, of course. Living life in old age is really an art form. I still get up and put my makeup on every morning, even if I am not going anywhere. I do because it gives me a lift. I still work on my physical strength with walking, pilates, and light weights. I do that so that I can stay strong, not for what my body looks like. I am so grateful for all the years I've been given. I try to help out wherever I can and to be kind to everyone around me. And I meditate daily. Life is still very good.

Omg you made me cry. Well, you didn’t make me cry, you hit a huge raw nerve. Last time I felt attractive was at 50, I’m now 65. The last time someone said it and I felt they were genuine. Probably the same age. I had a mastectomy and that wrecked me. I feel like the Corpse Bride. It messes up with your sense of self…no matter how many times I hear “ but you’re alive, you’re a survivor.” Yes I know that. Intellectually. But I also know it’s a matter of time and it will rear its ugly head again. With age for me, I don’t care. I had my time of literally stopping traffic as I crossed the street. I’m accepting this is life. Give me some puppies ( I recently lost both my fur babies.) Some grandchildren and I’ll be happy. For everything there is a season. 💖

@ Ah EllaDonna, you’ve made me smile. Yes, some puppies! As I write this, two tiny rescue kittens are somersaulting and rampaging around my bedroom, creating havoc and tearing down the house. You had a hard road to travel with your health. Me too. Only mine wasn’t a visible wound. I had a viral brain injury. I’m better now, but it was a long, long slog back. As my beloved grandmother used to say, it isn’t what happens to us in life; it’s what we make of what happens to us. Let’s make it wonderful. Let’s have lots of puppies and kittens and grandbabies! The best to you.

Thank you for your comment. I felt so moved by your words. I recently turned 33. I was blessed to be born an attractive woman, but I have this irrational fear of aging. My friend, who i look after is nearly 98 and lived through ww2 watching bombs dropping on our town and killing many people she knew , then had a hard life with her beloved husband who was so badly injured in the war that he never recovered his physical strength. I go and help her wash and do her hair and she just has the most beautiful skin you could imagine, very few wrinkes and the best smile. I told her last week when she dressed in her navy and white skirt and blouse and pearls , how beautiful she looked. She smiled and said no one, in all her 98 years had ever told her that , my heart crumbled and now I tell her everytime how beautiful she is. So easy to say and it means the world to her. she has lived a hard life when there wasnt much time for " sentimentality" as she says. She is much loved, and its a privilege to be with this gorgeous warm woman, who cares so much for everyone she knows.

Really beautiful people often feel hunted, when they are young. And they are indeed hunted. Especially women, but also gorgeous young men. So many weirdos try to follow them, grop them, say nasty things, disguised as "compliments". It is not pleasant, it's scary & dangerous. So, when a beautiful person gets older, and looks still good, but not attracting negative attention of predators, it is very liberating experience.

I was invisible in my younger years it seems... However, I do look after myself, I exercise regularly, and look after my appearance. I get regular haircuts and know by now exactly what suits me, and what doesn't. Maturity does have it's advantages and I think we should all concentrate on those more, and less on the negatives. 64 years old, do feel attractive sometimes, have kept in good shape, have a positive attitude. I do not feel very sexy however, which is what a lot of people mean when they say atttractive. I think its natural to be less sexy as we age, nature is interested in continuing the species, something older women cannot do. There are many kinds of attractiveness of course, but if I cannot honestly say I find 70 or 80 year old men sexually attractive, why should 30 or 40 year old men find me sexually attractive?

Two things- the gaze I received in my twenties actually creeped me out. Whether it was at my job or on the street, at school, etc. it just felt predatory. Now in my 50s, I find more women, especially women in my age category- offer compliments more frequently. This is what buoys me. And because of that, I offer compliments randomly as well. Wayne- you have definitely aged like a good Scotch. Your salt and pepper beard, your attitude, your candor- I've watched you since Day one and I feel like you stay true to YOU and that is truly beautiful.

I turn 61 tomorrow and I really needed to hear this today. Thankfully, I am married to a man who tells me every day that I am beautiful and sexy. It's hard to believe that sometimes when society tells us that as we get older, we have no value. I have a fun, spunky haircut and yesterday I was starting to think that perhaps I was too old to wear my hair like this anymore. Today, I was out having lunch with some friends and another woman came over to our table and told me how much she loved my haircut. It made my day. In addition, it made me realize that whenever I see an older, mature woman, I need to pay them a compliment. We need to lift each other up.❤

I can FEEL how much it means to all of us and I always, always encourage them to go a little crazy. I need to do that to myself in my private life as well 😂

I understand completely what you are saying, and there is one more question to ask - When was the last time you complimented someone and told them how good they looked? I make a point of telling people, especially other women, when they are looking great. It is lovely to see the pleasure this brings because you are right, as we get older we don’t get noticed so often. To answer your questions, I am lucky that it was only a few months ago for me. My son got married and I bought a beautiful dress and had my long grey hair put up professionally, I spent hours on KZbin practising my make up and … I felt amazing 🥳🥳🥳 Afterwards, my son told me that someone told him his parents looked like film stars!! That will keep going for a while 😊

I'm 30, and at a party I saw a woman in her 50s. Wearing a long black tight gown and open back. I told her that she looked soo sexy but classy. She really was... Her face changed so much, I never expected her to be so touched by it. From that day I realized the importance of compliments to strangers even more. Or being in a mall and saw a white lady with white hair (similar to Meryl Streep) around 75 picking a long purple dress. I said it would look beautiful on her. She responded that it wouldn't match skin and hair because 'too pale'. And I said: I think that hair matching the skin color gives a very classy/monochrome look making it very easy to choose any color outfit.. She told me it was a very kind comment and a unique perspective. Honestly I thought her skin and hair looked so good together she really took care of her hair well without much fuzz.. I hope more older ladies believe what I said..

Hi Wayne. I have never felt more attractive than I do now and that’s because I have accepted my beauty for what it is, my beauty, my standard. When I was in my 20s and 30s I was gawked at because of my physical appearance and I was so consumed with body image. I now have white hair that I stopped dying about a year ago, and I get a lot of compliments about my white hair from much younger people, male and female. The compliments I receive now at my age feel so genuine and I think it’s because I have never felt more confident about who I am. Just yesterday a friend of mine paid me a compliment, she told me I was beautiful inside and out and she loves my style. She reminded me that as women, we need to pay compliments to each other and learn to accept the compliment. This is a great video Wayne.

I do think we’re trying to do that in the older 65 plus community. A lot of us that do videos in the older group are stressing how we still feel sexy and we still feel vibrant and we still feel attractive. And I think we really do. So I’m hopeful. What you’re saying is entirely true, but I am hopeful that the older generation of KZbinrs that we have now can show younger people that you really are the same person no matter your age. And I hope that they will realize that, because it makes people less afraid to grow older. Like you said growing older is a blessing and I just hope people can realize that and live their lives accordingly. You are a handsome man and I hope you always always know that.

I don’t look for others to make me feel any way at all. That’s a problem, people. Judge for yourself! As we age, we should become less and less dependent on another’s opinion! I take care of myself, FOR me. And partially so I can be here a long while for my son. Some people are not born with any beauty on the exterior. They learn this early on, I think. What makes me feel great these days? Connecting with anyone in conversation. Really, truly engaged in the exchange. That’s what is real.

I am a 63 year old female. Honestly cannot remember the last time someone told me I was beautiful or attractive. I don't know the last time I felt attractive or good about my outward appearance. As I get older, people comment on the inner beauty, not the outer beauty. I find myself looking at older woman and men and appreciating their appearance. When I notice something special about a women's appearance, I will kindly tell them. Women do not compliment other women enough. I try not to notice the lack of glances, stares and smiles ... I used to think cosmetic surgery was the answer, but not anymore. There are more important things to spend my money on! 😊

At 71 years old I feel I"m allowed to tell another woman if she looks good, I woman came into a restaurant, was with 3 children, she was dressed in a casual Tee dress but was so pulled together, her hair was in braids, her lip color was fantastic with her skin tone, her jewelry gave her a finished touch. I got up from my seat and walked over and whispered to her that she looked beautiful and if no one had told her, I was telling her. She almost cried. We women need to tell each other positive things because we just don't know when that last positive comment was made to someone. Telling her made her feel good, and her response made me feel wonderful.

Most people keep their youthful looks for quite a while. They look much the same at 40 as they did at 30, but at some point, they hit the middle age point and start showing their years. It's different for everyone, but it does happen, and then, as you say, they become invisible. For me, the upside has been that I've gotten warnings at traffic stops because I remind the policemen of their mothers. But last week, at a farmer's market, a man around my age tried earnestly to strike up a conversation. I'm managing an illness, so my head was covered in a scarf, no makeup, and it was a chilly day, so I was wearing conservatively fitted layers, but it was nice to know that even at my age, and sick as I am, somebody thought I was pretty.

Wayne, very interesting subject. I learned a long time ago, not to value my self worth by my physical appearance. There will always be someone more beautiful than what we think we are. As I have aged that has become more of a reality to me, and I am so grateful that I have been able to build self-worth from within. Today, when I look around me and see all of these young women getting procedures that make them all look alike and at the same time losing their uniqueness. It makes me very sad. I have always believed that what we give out we get back in return. If we radiate love, it will be returned to us two fold. Being loved is a wonderful thing beyond our physical being. I say this as an almost 86-year-old woman who is enjoying aging naturally. 💕

What I like about aging is how the weight of social opinion gets lighter and lighter. I feel so much more FREE than when I was young. What I don’t care for is the dismissiveness of younger folks, males and females alike. I’m NOT worth less as a 65 yr old. If nothing else, I’m a whole lot more real than I was young. I’m sorry that this reality is lost on so many people, especially public figures. Sometimes, their age-ist joking can really get me down…

Wayne, thank you for bringing up such a sensitive topic. I just read the comment from the 75 year old being spoken about rudely by a drunk in an elevator. That is just not on and I would have spoken up. I’m in my 70s and I guess I have been blessed in life, my partner tells me every day how attractive I am. I exercise regularly and look after myself and when I’m outside I try to approach people with a smile and mostly get a positive response.

I’m 39, been single for 2 yrs, celibate for 20. I’ve finally reached the point thru therapy where I feel confident and beautiful, regardless of if others see it. I work in a very male dominated field as a detention officer so I have male inmates pretending to flirt to get favors and it doesn’t affect me. Of course I’m not saying my journey is the only right way to go about things, but I do feel Ike me feeling beautiful and that I deserve to even be alive an absolute milestone and I’m not ashamed of it.

I'm 43. I have felt the most beautiful after I turned 40. But it was turning 40 that made me take pride in myself. I was always a big girl that had a pretty face I was told. I wanted to be 'hot'. I lost over 100lbs, learned how to do makeup and hair. Thanks to you I learned how to do eyeshadow lol. For the first time in my life I was getting attention for my looks and it actually makes me very uncomfortable. But I continue to take care of myself because I enjoy makeup and hair not because of the attention ❤

@@darnitthelma4247that’s a great question! ❤ Notice I said prettier than ever, not younger than ever 😂 … Has my hair changed? Absolutely, but that was already happening with PCOS (hormonal issues), poor eating habits and androgenic alopecia. I wear hair extensions that look very natural - easy fix! I have not had surgery yet but I will definitely get a face lift when I’m older. I don’t get Botox or fillers. My face looks much prettier now that it’s slim and not inflamed. I take good care of my skin. Genetics also play a big part in it I’m sure but I do everything I can on my end. Do I have sagging skin!? ALL OVER! But I wear clothes that are youthful and flattering. I have a 32 year old sister and we ALWAYS get mistaken for twins. This was the case since before my weight loss. I think I was very lucky to slim nicely (mostly) but I play up whatever I can. I don’t cosplay as a younger woman. I just have my personal style and go with that! However when I look in the mirror, I do feel beautiful for the first time in my life and self esteem + maturity has me feeling cute! ❤

I have never felt like I received much attention in the way that it's being discussed here, even in my 20s, so now that I'm older I don't miss it at all - I don't know if I have been oblivious to it all along or was just too busy doing other things to pick up on it. In fact, I really don't like being looked at, though as an artist, I'm often looking at others. I'd just like to suggest to anyone struggling with this that there is so much beauty and power in being the one who looks, rather than the one who is looked at. I really appreciated this video but just wanted to say there a lot of ways to think of this - and I'd suggest not trying to figure out ways to ameliorate the loss but to not even think of it as a loss at all.

I'm 55 (56 in March) and I can honestly say that I've felt more attractive the older I've gotten. Less f***s given, you know. The last time I felt *really* attractive was this last Saturday before I headed out for my local football game (I'm a photographer). And the last time someone made me *feel* attractive was on that same day when someone I know (a little) actually *told* me that they think I am attractive. She's also a woman and she's in her late 40's. However, a guy in his mid-twenties also kissed my hand as he greeted me and later on wanted my phone number, so there we have it. I have never feared getting older and, like you say in your video, it should be a privilege to get older. Not all of us make it even to *my* age. Beauty wise, I've never had anything done to my face and I am embracing my grey hair. I wear long and curly hair and refuse to cut it just because at my age, you really 'should'. I also haven't stopped wearing Doc boots and I sincerely do not care what other people think about me (in the nicest possible way). I make sure to surround myself with people I get on with and I wear things that *I* like and wear the makeup *I* want to because it's for me. I think it's important to not lose yourself and that goes for clothes, makeup, hair and opinions (opinions unless it's through growth). If you manage to stick to who you are throughout your life, I'm sure we stick out more through personal style and grace. I think feeling attractive and liking yourself is the one thing that should take preference over getting that expensive item as it'll last and serve you longer. I could seriously talk about this subject for hours but I'll finish on this: I am saddened to see so many young women (and men) using fillers and botox in their lips, cheeks and foreheads in their twenties. Always make sure to never go to bed wearing makeup, always cleanse and moisturise, don't spend too much time in the direct sun and I, for one, have never been drunk as it's damaging inside out (not preaching, just speaking my truth). Also make sure to only spend time with people that make you smile and laugh and that will tell you the truth. XXX

Thank you for this video. I have been thinking a lot about this lately. I feel like I didn't really age much between 30 and 45, but now I feel like I've fallen off an attraction cliff. I dress quite well so I get a lot of compliments, but I never feel they are really about me, more about my clothes. And they tend to be from women, the male gaze has definitely vanished. I can't remember the last time I felt someone thought I was attractive. (Also Wayne, you're a ridiculously attractive man with a voice that could melt ice!)

When I was in my 20’s a guy said to me “ You have the smallest eyes I’ve ever seen” And when I went swimming without makeup I heard a girl say. “ She’s ugly”. I used to think I looked nice when I made up to go out, but one night I caught a glimpse of myself in the reflection of the car window, and I seemed ordinary. My friend who I was with had big, beautiful, brown eyes and a button nose. So no, I never even felt special when I was in my younger years. Now that I’m 67, my small eyes, have gotten even smaller, totally hooded. It’s hard not to let it get you down and be okay at what you see in the mirror 😢

It’s sad. I think the last time I felt attractive was in my forties. Then, towards the end of my forties, with menopause, my body became just like my mother’s, and now, at 53, I have 15 extra kilos and I can’t look at myself in the mirror. I don’t recognize myself. And I understand what you’re saying about invisibility because I used to get a lot of compliments on the street, and now I’m invisible too.

This touches an open nerve to be honest. I'm in my early 60's and all my life I only felt a bit attractive with makeup on due to skin issues. Never was a natural beauty. Aging is hard. We indeed become invisible, but now being single I no longer have to be pretty for a man. Still it's painful to become invisiblel. But my God sees me and He gives me friends that value me for who I am and not for my looks. Love your videos Wayne, you're a lovely man.

1. Last time i felt attractive about myself: a few hours ago when I was talking to my cat, Sunshine and I was smiling at her and saw myself in the mirror. 2. Last time someone else made me feel attractive? Hmmm. Sadly, it must have been my partner of 15+ years but as often happens in long-term relationships, I haven't felt like he's really "into me" for years. Not the way it always is in the first 1-4 years or so, anyway.

I'm 53, and I get more compliments now than I did in my 20s and 30s but I never believedI I was pretty. I think it's the way we view ourselves that makes all the difference and also not caring about what others think. I was so wrapped up in thinking I was never good enough or pretty enough that it affected so many aspects of my life. Looking back I realise now that all those snide remarks and put downs came from people who just felt inferior next to me and were just jealous. So you get rid of those people, take a good look in the mirror and if you don't like something, change it. But it all starts with you and your inner self.

But I love the scient behind the colour wheel AND only just found out what my seasonal colours are. I'm trying to manifest love for myself so that I can be at my best to offer it to others. I know one day I won't have as much attention as I did when I was in my 20s but I'm hoping at that point, it won't matter because as long as I truly hold and manifest the love within and look in the mirror and be happy with myself.
