It's called Cracovian Gate because it led from Lublin to the trade route to Cracow. That long pedestrian street you went before the gate was called "Krakowskie Przemieście", just like the pedestrian street in Warsaw, and it means just that - "Cracovian Tract". It's where all the merchants set up their warehouses because it was close to the trade route to the capital city of Cracow. And now it tends to be the most posh place in Polish cities.

You won't be disapointed 'cuz every square feet of our land has it's own story to tell and it has a bright future. Believe or not but Poland 30 years ago was in massive economical crisis. It was poor, dirty, grey, life was unbearable. Somehow we managed to make Poland pretty good place for life and development. There is a long way to be the one of the richest country in the world, but we never give up and one day we achieve it. Have another good day in Poland!

Ah, one of my favourite towns :D Yup, beware of the false friends :) When you say "cocktail" in Poland it will be understood as smoothie or milkshake When you say "drink" in Poland it will be understood as alcoholic cocktail :) Cracow gates is most likely called that because route to Cracow is in that direction. "Lublin was not destroyed in the war" - yeah, not for Polish standard, I mean it wasn't completely raised to the ground like Warsaw was but that doesn't mean it didn't suffer considerable damage. It looks old because the budget for conservation is low not because it's significantly older than other towns.
