The neighborhood cat left me an offering under my door mat. Upon returning home I saw the mat move. I lifted it and saw a baby flying squirrel. I called a rehaber but they couldn't take it and told me how to feed it and make it ready for release. Upon release he came back daily for 2 years to get his pecan treat. I emailed Blue Diamond Pecans and let them know my squirrel preferred their nuts to other brands and they sent me a 5 lb bag! LOL

Thank God for people like u. Gandhi: The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated. I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man.

I have worked with wildlife for many years. Just a few years back one of our Great Horned Owl eaglets fell from its nest when the nest was attacked during the night. The little male spent the night in our home crated by the open window so his mom could maintain vocal contact with him. His sister had been taken to another tree. We returned him the following morning. Many years ago I used to have a full blown rescue facility for all wildlife. I truly miss those days, but getting on in age now. It does drive me crazy though when people have exotic animals for "pets". You simply CANNOT TAKE THE WILD OUT OF THE WILD. I have 49+ years of professional years as a dog trainer and the same as an Animal Behavioral specialist. It can't be done.

Dear Constance - Did you ever read the paperback THE PSYCHIC POWER OF ANIMALS by Bill Schul? A good ref for anyone who is facing euthanasia of a beloved pet; each chapter deals with a critter's bond w/their human - even hives of bees that only live 6 months! A beekeeper died & his adult children did the ritual of "telling the bees" they would now care for the needs of all 14 hives. On the day of the funeral, all 14 hives swarmed into one and flew 14 miles into London and covered the casket for about a half hr. Then just as suddenly all went back home to their hives. They had paid tribute to their caretaker!

Thank you so much for that. I have rescued over 19 cats, 5 dogs, birds, and injured squirrels. I had kept the cats & dogs (not all at one time) until they died years later. Birds & squirrels were released. My last rescue cat will be 16 in March. This is my last since the years have caught up with me as well.❤❤❤❤❤

Oh maybe you could help me? I have a 20 pound chihuahua mix who was SO well socialized until she was attacked by two large dogs and the drunk owner dove head first into the dog pile! I think she must have some lingering ptsd from it as now she barks aggressively at pretty much all dogs now and most people. I got her at the humane society when she was 3 months old which was why she did so well for so long. I took her to the park 5-7 days a week and she'd get mad if she wasn't allowed to greet another dog, now she's just so aggressive with everybody! Do you have any suggestions to turn this behavior around? She's super smart! ☮️💜🙏🤞

I worked in a late night convenience store many yrs ago. A car came in and a couple said they had a small owl trapped inside the grill. They had hit it in mid air over 150 miles from where we were. It was a rare saw-whet owl. There is na small colony up in the NC mountains. I called a friend who had a bird cage and then gently removed the owl. That was hard., I put it in the cage and covered it. Then the next morning I called a older friend from my Boy Scout days who worked with birds of prey rehab. We had a new rehab center a few miles away and he took it there. The bird had a broken wing but they healed it and my sons and I were invited to visit the new center as it was opening and we got to see all kinds of birds of prey being rehabilitated. They let me know that 6 months later it was releashed up where the colony was.

Our creatures are here by the Lord's will; stories like this make our Lord smile...doubt me...if you read all of Paul's writings..you will run across several; please make a note and tell others...Trump will evisiscerate the wildlife kingdome further and also try to steal more refuge land, protected that is, from us and the animal kingdom...he hates nature and obviously, he hates women...so disrespectful..even in public...even Tuesday in NH!

We rescued a pair of baby skunks whose mother was hit by a car. They were so cute and friendly. Luckily there is a little animal rescue sanctuary in our area that took them in. It was so sad, they were running around on our road crying for their mama, fortunately we were able to capture them before they made their way to the busy road where their mama was hit.🦨🦨 Another time I rescued a butterfly with a broken wing. It stayed absolutely motionless as I “operated” on it by taking the exact tiny portion of a dead butterfly’s wing, cut it, and super glued it to the injured butterfly. When the procedure was over, it slowly flapped its wings to exercise them, then started flying around the livingroom, we gently captured it, and took it outside and released it, which it then flew far up in the air and just flew away, and we never saw it again. 🦋

We found an elephant in our garden with a broken leg, it looked so sad we just had to help it. Luckily next door had told us that the very same day, they had found a Giraffe stuck under their porch and half of it had been killed trying to get out. Amazingly my dad is a welder and we were able to cut the back leg off the good half of the Giraffe and weld it onto the Elephant. It did make him walk a bit funny, what with one leg being so much longer than the other three, but dad said that was a good thing because now he would only be able to walk in circles so he would keep coming back to our house forever no matter where he went and we could love him and pet him and be his friends forever. Then he died.

If you can get them to leave.. I picked up a female red tailed hawk on the side of the road about 35 years ago, her right leg was broken, I set the leg, made a splint etc. After she was all healed up, and ready to go, she wouldn't, I tried to set her free many times, she always returned. So I kept her free outside, arranged a spot in the barn loft she could access on her own. She stayed with me for 2 years, then suddenly disappeared. Never saw her again, I assume she passed away somehow.

I used to be a vet tech. We rehabbed several wild animals and sent them back to nature (opossums, raccoons, skunks). The one that stands out to me the most was the one who I'm about to tell you. I was on my way to work one morning. I spied an animal sitting right smack on the yellow line. I pulled over immediately, and saw that it was a barred owl, just sitting there. I grabbed my coat, walked into traffic, and slowly moved toward it with my coat open in front of me, hoping to scare it off the road. It just looked at me with those bottomless yellow eyes. It had to have been knocked on the head to behave without fear. I walked right up to it and scooped it up in my coat. It didn't struggle at all. So, the owl and I went to work. I placed it in a smallish cage, so that if it freaked out, there wasn't much room to hurt itself. He was uncharacteristically friendly, so everyone who worked with me got and up-close look at it, and it even appeared to enjoy having it's head petted. My boss said I did the right thing, so he gave the owl an exam, and found it to be otherwise healthy. He had me move it to a large enclosure, where it perched on a step ladder. We offered it water and dead mice. It wasn't interested, so we left it alone for awhile. Next day, he began to snap his beak at us, a good sign of recovery. We offered a mouse again, using tongs this time. He took one appraising look at it, snatched it up and swallowed it. Aggression and appetite intact. But it had made no effort to escape the enclosure (we had to be sure he could fly). The following morning, I found him way up in the rafters. Time to go home, buddy! I turned off all the lights, and opened the door (a garage type door). it took him about 5 seconds to see freedom. Then he was swooping down over my head and sailing out into the sky in all his glory. What a beautiful experience!

@@Bella-tr7bh I wasn't referring to wild life. But rather feeding "rescued animals" with other animals (cows, chicken). And here my comment is that there's little to praise people for. And I also gave my solution: lab meat. In that case, they can really rescue those (desired..) animals withoutsacrificing a lot of other animals (which we seem to not care about).

Smiling is a sign of aggression in chimpanzees. Don't mistake animal expressions or behaviours for those of humans, anthromorhising chimps in particular is extremely dangerous.
@Mikeandlucy1
@Mikeandlucy1 3 ай бұрын
Chimps bearing their teeth and hugging each other are signs of fear, nothing to do with happiness. in fact as others have said, it is dangerous to think that animals think and act like humans. Man is pretty unique in having the range of emotions we have, a Chimpanzee has three basic needs, food, shelter and a mate. He/she wakes up each day and looks for food, at night he/she makes a nest and sleeps, the rest of the time they are looking to reproduce. That's it no happy or sad, no falling in love, no nothing like that , eat sleep shit and shag that's all any animal spends its entire life doing. You continue to live in your fantasy bubble while the rest of the world deals with reality.

SO helping street children in India, or Child s*x workers in Manila. Providing caring homes for Yugoslavian Orphans, eliminating child slave labour in sweatshops all over the world, none of these compare to freeing animals. You have a strange outlook on the world. Not saying releasing animals is not a good thing, but in the scheme of things, it is definitely NOT "the most satisfying and honourable cause a person can have"

I'll never forget my time on an Earthwatch expedition to St. Croix V.I. where we studied leatherback turtles, tagging and measuring adults, helping baby stragglers out of their deep nests and into the water and even catching the eggs of laying females when they'd chosen a bad/dangerous place to lay their eggs. I will never ever forget lying on my stomach on a windy beach under a full moon, as cold waves rushed over my shoulders and into a laying female's nest. I had the privilege of catching her golfball-sized leathery eggs as she lay them and handing them to my teammate so we could rebury them in a safer spot. The most worthwhile 3 weeks of my life. A great shout-out and best wishes to our team scientist Anna Navarro, wherever you are. We learned so much from you and your partner (whose name I've sadly forgotten.)

I have helped a couple birds escape rooms in a home they were not able to get out of and drive a skunk in a trap some 30 miles to a wooed area by a river to set it free. The person who trapped it was planning to drowned it. I said it wants to live to and got an ok to take it. It ran off to the bush but came back to thank me before leaving for good. 😊

This was SO beyond wonderful. I've been crying buckets of happiness! Thank you and God bless all these caring people who helped give them their true lives back. I try to dnate to these places because I can't even drive anymore. It's so heartwarming to see what some of your funds go to. Like watching the StJude stories. My daughter just rescued a Canadian gosling last summer as well. But it was much more devastating and dangerous this time. For her and another lady trying to help. Assholes were just speeding up and they killed the mother and all but one baby which my daughter brought home. Kept him overnight and HER daughter watched him til she got home from work. Then she took him to a retaining pond with many other geese. At first he was so afraid poor baby! He actually ran back to my daughter! But she coaxed him toward a pair of geese that looked to be without babies. And they adopted him, yes they did! She kept going back for weeks and they were always there, just the 3 of them together. These are things she's done all her life but it's sadly getting harder for her. I hope her kids will carry on for both of us and my fam. Thank you so much for this vid. It made me feel so happy!🙏🏼🕊️🐾

❤❤Thank you so much for showing these rescues. It breaks my heart in instances where animals are used for medical testing, scientific research. and cosmetic testing, all of which is unnecessary. They are intelligent beings who hurt just as humans. Especially those caged and mistreated. Poachers ruin animal's family lives. This is all sickening what they do, and for no reason but greed. Thank you, rescuers, especially for rehabilitation & release of all rescued!!! I have done rescue work over 50 years. Much appreciated.❤❤❤❤❤

I don't know about this Kevin. But many of these animals cannot be released instantly. They are released from a cage to a big space, later into the wild. Some animals like the chimps that were used in experiments or the animals from circuses can not survive in the wild but stay in large enclosures. They have still more freedom than before.

Yes, I found an Owl in the middle of the road and I happened to have a box in my trunk, I had to keep it overnight and the next day took it to a wildlife rescue. After the Owl was well enough the rescue center called me to come get the Owl and they said to release it in the area where I had found it, was such a good feeling to see the Owl flying away into the woods. I have a picture of me taken with the Owl, which I will always cherish.

My grandkids kept a salamander they found out back, but I could see the sadness and suffering. I kindly explained that she was able to play just like them, but not stuck in a cage, and how would they feel? I asked if they wanted her to be sad and maybe die? They cried and said no. I felt like a mean gma, but when I took the salamander out back, she flipped out of my hands and RAN under their big porch. The kids saw how badly she wanted her freedom although it was a tough moment that broke their little hearts💙🫂🙏🏻

When those cows bounced and jumped on the grass for the first time… that was exactly like our cat when we moved from a city apartment where he grew up, to a suburban house with a yard with grass lawn - he was so unfamiliar with grass, he bounced and jumped over it for days😂. Those cows live where it’s too cold for them to go out in winter, ( a Nordic country I can’t remember which one) so in spring when they are released from barns back out to pasture , they all hop and jump around the first few days.

@@teresahiggs4896 It does not have to be very nordic. They stay inside during the winter in Belgium too. It is not extremely cold here in winter. The main reason is that the grass is not growing enough during that period, more because the short days and not enough light.

These animals are very beautiful, so sad some of them have been used wrong. I did have a bird I tried to set free, it would sit on my shoulder all the time I was walking around the house. I went out onto the porch with it still on my shoulder, it looked around and just kept looking around outside. It didn’t want go anywhere but stay on my shoulder. It had the opportunity to fly away but didn’t. It was a young pigeon which I rescued from an oily mess, feathers were covered in oil, and I had to clean it off of him. He was beautiful in his new colorful feathers of various grays, green tints and white . I did have other animals which I rescued and set free though, after I took care of their injuries. 👍❤️🙏🏼

I nursed a neonate sparrow into adulthood who wanted to play with the kittens, so he lived in a finch breeding cage (huge) for 9 or more years (2 years max lifespan in the wild). I found him on the ground in snow, no nests around anywhere (and the wrong season anyway) ... go figure. He lectured the wild birds, was close friends with a cat, a dog, all the humans. He lectured the wild birds every morning for hours. A hawk injured itself in a fence, was taken to a vet, recovered. When he was released, he thought a long time before he flew out of the carrier, flew to a fence, looked back a long long time, and opened its wings and bowed a few times. Then it played on the ground before it flew away.

I did help with a seagull rescue. The poor animal had eaten a fisherman's live bait that had been set up to catch another fish. The bird got tangled in the 5 ft. leader line. After I caught the helpless animal, and with the assistance of another fisherman we were able to free the bird from its tangled situation. The other fisherman said to me after the bird flew off, "If that bird lives tomorrow, we did good!"
