One thing I did with my 08 is remove the top cover. Also use straight 15/40 rotella every 3K. And finally, mix 2sroke oil with a power service diesel rx. To give the fuel better octane and lubricity for the injectors. The recommended synthetic oil is too thin and evaporates clogging the evaporation system thus, increasing crankcase pressures causing oil cooler seals to fail. IMHO.Shunning the flaps on the Egr system with the resistor helps as well. Although totally removing is best. Glad to see you again friend. Get out of CA👊🏼

These OM642's are famous for their oil cooler leaks, their fuel injector hold down issues, and their general over-engineering and stuffing parts in the valley of the block.

Agreed, all plastic diesel engine covers with foam insulation should be removed as a pre-inspection condition before money changes hands or most likely what you'll discover once they are removed is just what you discovered. The whole design of a single torque to yield bolt clamping down against up to 25,000 psi at times & a skinny little copper washer to seal the deal is ingenious in theory but similar to Ford 6.0 Turbo Diesel head bolts of same years completely inadequate in real world to hold back the pressures sometimes demanded.

I just did a tedious black death repair on my om648. The blow by exhaust cooked the sound insulation foam under the engine cover so I bought a new molded foam and run no plastic cover. It still quiets the engine but it's very easy to periodically pop off to check it's status

Just bought a 2012 e350 om642. Has new dpf, cats and timing chain done this year from warranty. Has extended warranty to 2027. Should I keep it ? It covers all emission, turbos, injectors and timing chain components

Do all the injector seals at the same time. The other ones will do the same thing

I have a 2012 ML350 bluetec there is a strong diesel smell inside the cabin. When I look inside the engine bay on the back passenger side I can see a small amount of smoke. If it’s the copper ring - do we need to replace the entire injector ?

I have a ML 350 CDI equipped with OM642 . I got oil in the swirl flap and keep blowing a fuse . Car was in limp mode . I disconnected the wiring and put a resistor . Car came back to normal and runs smoothly. Will this modification do any harm to car in the future??

I think you just need to be sure the swirl flap is locked in the open position so your ports arent closed.

could you tell me, are there any alternative diesel fuels such as biodiesel that could damage the injector pump in an OWM617?

om617? im pretty sure you cant damage that thing with anything

if you use biodiesel, it will clog the fuel filters quicker than normal.
