This is incredible. The mind is powerful. If you're negative your body will respond with negative results. You may not succeed right away or fail a lot, but you will feel better and get more out of something when you're positive, which improves your overall health and reduces your level of stress.

Exactly! A lot of athletes don't realize how important a role the mind plays in our success.

This is why I always have my players warm up shooting close to the hoop. We have found First 11 shots your mind forms an opinion on how you are going to shoot that particular day.
@TuckerRichardson Жыл бұрын
I love this. Get those makes in at the beginning of a workout or game and work your way out. Makes sense to warm up that way in general!
@davidhall4401 Жыл бұрын
I do this too. It works wonders for your shooting ability when you form shoot. There are a lot of guys out there who like to play without warming up their shot like this or at all.and will try to stop an opposing player from warming up his shot before playing a 1on1 or 2on2 game. Why do you think certain people like to do this?
@davidhall4401 Жыл бұрын
I believe trying to come out and start shooting threes while you're cold is actually a bad idea before a game starts if you're doing this with a person. It's great to have confidence that you can come out and light it up without a warm up, and I have shot well in situations like that, but it can lead to injury because your body is not ready to start jumping to get into its full range of motion in terms of shot mechanics. I have seen coaches force their players to play without warming up their shots. I will say this a dynamic warm up is SUPER essential at all times, especially if you're not able to warm up your shot with quick form shooting. Me I do a dynamic warm up and form shoot until I am satisfied and then I start shooting my regular shot. This routine is a major confidence booster because it alerts the other team that they need to stop you and it gives your teammates a great desire to give you the ball if they're all about winning. I got major results from doing this. Larry Bird did something similar.

I’ve always done this subconsciously to get a feel for how the ball rolls off my fingers. But this is actually a good suggestion for training your mind too.

You just like me from what I can tell. I am a relatively unathletic, unconfident, 6’4 hs sophomore that’s a good hooper but not exceptional with college ball dreams. I’m going to try to do the stuff from this video because I have the skill to be pretty good, I just lack the ability to consistently transfer that to games, and my confidence has always been pretty low. I also always get mad at myself for missing or messing up, so I gotta change that

What do you think about saying “my bad” after an error? I see myself doing that in volleyball often when someone else messes up but I could have done better during the play. If my teammate is visibly distressed I’m trying to take the responsibility instead
@TuckerRichardson Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I don't think it's a bad thing to take responsibility. You aren't being negative with yourself necessarily because you realize you could have done better. Thanks for the question Jaker!
