I have experience with fresh water tanks and I can say that it's definitely easier and cheaper than salt water tanks, But it really depends on how you take care of it and what type you started on first

I think it's great you made this video. Even though it's not really your job to inform people if they might not be able to handle a more exotic animal it is still extremely nice to do considering exotic pet owners are putting them online for all to see and this leads to wanting them by a larger audience. It's not the job of them to properly educate people but I think it's overall better pet care and better ownership to educate people on why they should or shouldn't have these animals. It can save alot of them from bad pet owners or impulse buyers if the person they see own the animal, give information to how to better care or understand the pros and cons of an animal.

Pretty much exactly why I made this video. People have told me I got them into the hobby and also made them want to buy a Mantis Shrimp which is really an amazing thing to hear but I know that it is not for everyone. Glad my message got across clearly. Appreciate your support!

Bought mine looking for a peacock and later found out he’s a orange spot but I regret nothing. He’s a good boy (and is turning 2 soon). One big thing I’d mention is to make sure you have easy access to food. I know not every area has a great food selection and you also have to account for budget. Some are picky eaters and really need variety (mine refuses to eat the same thing twice in a row unless he’s extra hungry). Might be worth asking the store you get yours from about what they feed them and their personalities overall. They are definitely individuals.

We have a large saltwater tropical with live coral and only 1 fish left. We had over a dozen but they get old and die. We’ve had great luck with our tank. It’s a custom made tank in a half wall. We’re waiting for the last fish to pass on and thinking of trying a Mantis Shrimp or two. Not at same time at first. See how we do with one in the tank with the coral. They seem real interesting as pets!!

That is really cool to hear and with experience like that I would say you are more than ready! You can house them with coral for sure but I would say just make sure they are glued down or too big to move or else he might use them as his own decorations lol

Depending on the size of your tank, 2 mantis will be fine. They're fascinating animals, so much fun to watch and interact with

A safe bet is usually 15 gallons per mantis as long as they have places to hide but more is always better. Nothing is guaranteed though and it’s impossible to know how they’ll react to each other.

Why do your mantis shrimp like their fish friends? I've heard mantis shrimp are not compatible with anything. How are yours even feeding together?

Seeing your videos has made me want to get a peacock mantis shrimp as a pet, but I have no tank experience. Do you have any specific creatures you'd recommend as a good salt water starter pet if I'm looking to eventually move into a peacock mantis shrimp? Thank you for any advice! Love the videos.

Good question. For freshwater I would say you can start with crayfish, some species of shrimp like amano shrimp would be good. And for salt probably a fire shrimp because they are a little bit hardier in my experience, some skunk cleaners, maybe an arrow crab or a banded coral shrimp. But definitely do some research on all of those because some can be aggressive and some require different care but they are all generally a good place to start.
