Dr Sinéad Eccles recently gave a talk in which she discussed what it means to have a healthy brain. The talk titled “What does it mean to have a healthy Brain? Understanding the function of the brain in the regulation of overall health” was based on Sinead’s background in neuropsychology as well as a project ‘Take Five to Age Well’ that she is currently working on. She also included other research in brain health and the latest from the field of neuropsychology as part of the discussion.
Sinéad said: We know that the brain is the most associated organ with mental health but as psychologists do we know how it works at a biological level. The brain is complex and has the power to make you happy or sad and therefore, understanding your own individual brain health can be very powerful in promoting happiness. That’s why understanding the negative impact that stress has on the brain and how to boost key neurotransmitters that can promote mental health is critical discussion to have. Overall, my aim of this talk was to explain the role of the brain at a biological level and how tapping in to our own natural neurotransmitters can make us happier.
