The subtle engineering of your designs is enchanting, lovely to see how much drape you get out of your little master (mistress?) pieces. I enjoy thinking of these yarn wonders being quietly crafted behind random front doors, just makes my soul glow knowing that all this hand skill is still out there and happening, and being passed on through the generosity of people like you. I am a long-time, cack-handed crocheter and so I have an even greater appreciation of anyone able to wield TWO needles (or more!) and manage to keep several stitches on at a time without dropping them (!) Thank you for sharing your skills and delighting us with your wisdom and beautiful designs.

Barbara wow, thank you for your chat on crescent shaped shawls! I am so excited about making a crescent now. You have inspired me!!! I appreciate knowing about how it sits on the shoulders WITHOUT SLIDING OFF, WOWZER. It is a rainy day here in Montana and is in the 50's and I have watched you for two hours or so while knitting a triangle shawl that I am to far along to stop now, wish I had known. The top edge will bunch up if you try to pull it into a straight line. Blocking into the crescent shape will help immensely.

Loving those Dune shawls, especially the elegant simplicity of Irulan! But no design for Chani? 🥺
@WatchBarbaraKnit5 ай бұрын
I'm glad you like them. When I started the Dune series I had to create structure for myself or I would have been all over the place. I decided to do the different houses. I started with Atreides and then went to Corrino. Next on my list was Harkonnen but I got stuck there. Chani doesn't really fit into the house structure and honestly, she is not one of my favorite characters.
@emilyrln5 ай бұрын
@@WatchBarbaraKnit Ahh, that makes sense. Too easy to go wild without a specific plan. I honestly don't recall Chani's book characterization very well; it's been a while since I read it. I really like how Zendaya portrays her in the Villeneuve films, but that's just my opinion. Different people enjoy different things!

Thanks for answering my questions what we need to learn is can sock yarn be in the same shawl/garment as Merino single it seems to me sock yarn is very poor doesn't drape well and has poor flimsy appeal even with the correct gauge Thanks Marianne

Thank you foe this podcast. I love all of your shawls. Could you advise which one would be good for a novice knitter?
@WatchBarbaraKnit8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words. I must confess that my patterns are not designed with the novice in mind, but that is not to say that I do not do simple. If you are looking for a crescent shaped shawl my simplest pattern in that shape would be Mapes: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mapes The shaping is a little more complex than your standard shawl, but it isn't too fiddly. If you decide to try out one of my patterns, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions! ;)
@josiethornton70497 жыл бұрын
WatchBarbaraKnit Well Barbara, I made your Mapes shawl and can't tell you how much I enjoyed knitting it. It dose sit very comfy on the shoulders. Just one question. Where I cast my first stitches on, I have a 'lump', it's difficult to describe. Do you have any idea what it could be? Making this has given me the confidence to try another pattern. Thank you very much.

Would love to do a knit along with you for a möbius knitted in the round I would like to actually see the amount cast on for a snood style möbius thank you & I do like the crescent shawl & the rectangle but presently I’m knitting Turkish stitch triangle just increasing along the right side edge with the yarn over first so they decorate the edge 🙏😊💖
@WatchBarbaraKnit5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a beautiful shawl. I've not designed a snood so I'm not sure how many you would cast on. Figuring that out for a mobius is a really tricky thing!

Is the math the same for the asymmetrical crescent, with a total of 6 inc every other row (so, 7 inc leading edge & 1 dec outside edge), or is it something else?
@WatchBarbaraKnit6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I have never made an asymmetrical crescent so I am afraid I cannot answer that question. My initial instinct is to answer no but you won't know until you swatch it. I believe that most of the top down asymmetrical crescents are made with short rows.

Interesting video. I think a crescent shawl may be my next project. What is the name of the shawl that is on the dress form? Looks like it is a rectangle shawl.
@WatchBarbaraKnit8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That is Golden Lion Throne: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/golden-lion-throne It is sort of a hybrid rectangle/crescent. It has a long cast-on at the neckline and then it flares out to give a mild curve. The neckline isn't straight but it is kinda a slightly curved rectangle.
