I'm so glad you shouted out the role of the bass guitar in this because it just kills. And they are all fantastic, and that interplay of guitar solos and I noticed that you noticed the tension and counterpoint and tightness between them. It's just such a good stuff.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird gets all the attention as the great soutern rock long lead guitar song, but I think this one is just as good. Not all reactors get the music and jams of the 70s. I'm glad that you seem to be able to appreciate it. It sounds like it's grown on you.

The Outlaws were a great band that is always underrated. Yet, they are one of those bands that people fall in love with once the listen to a few songs and give the band a chance. Two more great Outlaws songs you should check out are "It Follows from Your Heart" and "Hurry Sundown." "It Follows from Your Heart" is one of those songs you never get tired of.

@@laurakali6522 yes it is. Green Grass and the whole album is dedicated to Skynyrd. I once had the privilege of briefly playing the two different bass guitars featured on the front and back cover of that album. I'm friends with the bass players son, and his dad, Harvey, let him borrow them one night for a gig. He knew I was a big Outlaws fan so he let me mess around on them for a little while 😆

The first rock concert my parents ever let me go to when I was a young teenager was The Outlaws opening for Black Sabbath on their Heaven and Hell tour. Musta been 1981 or thereabouts. My buddies and I found seats right up front center stage. Imaging that twin guitar jam extravaganza from this song tearing up the fretboards ten feet in front of you. Fire! The Outlaws kept the rock in country rock. Funny though, nobody ever yells out "Green Grass & High Tides" at a band the way they yell out "Freebird"... I suppose that might be a good thing though. Heh.

Every great Southern Rock band needs a Guitar Opus, (Whipping Post, Freebird, Train Train, etc) and this is Outlaws version. Got to see these gents twice, back in the 70's and early 80's, and this song was about 1/3 of the concert length. The "Florida Guitar Army", three Guitarists and a Lefty Bassist, a good look at the front of the stage. Hughie Thompson leading the way, he eventually moved on to Lynyrd Skynyrd, but the Outlaws were fun in their time.
