So sweet! I am lucky enough to still have my mother. I tell her everyday how much I love her. Believe me, she knows it. I was not easy to put up with and I've been able to make up for that as well. Yeah, as many said, this song was written after the loss of his dad. This song sure got me crying. You know, I was my mother's care giver for years. She passed away this last year. I've had so many people die in my life, but nothing prepared me for the death of my mom. I never knew I could grieve so much. This song is so beautiful. Thanks for your reaction. I'd put the groups Bread and America in the same categories. Both have an amazing collection of songs.

It's definitely worth taking a dive into Bread. They are full of beautiful lyrics that all have so much meaning. They've gotten through my life in so many instances. "Make it with You" "Goodbye Girl" "Diary" "Sweet Surrender" and it goes on and on. Really the epitome of '70s ballads. Give it a try. I don't think you'll regret it! Peace!

David Gates ended up going solo when Bread broke up in 1973 and his biggest solo hit was "Goodbye Girl" that was the movie theme song for The Goodbye Girl starring Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason. Bread produced many hit songs. Hope you do some more.
