Fed, I watched your video about brands one should not buy. The comments are turned off. My question is, where were you 40 years ago when I started? I have a couple of footlockers full of junk. I wanted a Rolex Sea Dweller but I was too cheap to buy it. Now I have several Seamasters, no Rolexes. Because I work outdoors on old cars or my yard quite often, I wear my 25 year old Citizen Eco-Drive, Timex Ironman, I found on the ground at the dump, a $5.00 Solar G-Shock, or my Seiko Samurai when I am desk diving through a mountain of paperwork. I rarely wear the nice watches I have. It is sad but I feel pretentious when I do. Thanks for your great videos.

I think Hublot's biggest mistake was having Floyd Mayweather Jr wearing them. Yes he projects success, but he also plays the heel. Heels don't make for good optics and prestige. Inflated prices with ETA movements doesn't help on a more substantive level.

Hey Fed, nice to see the shout-out for Sartory Billard. I've got a custom SB07 on order and found Armand there very helpful and easy to deal with. After my good experiences with my Habring Doppel-Felix and custom Garrick S4 I'm convinced that you get the most interesting designs, best value and best experience dealing with small independent watchmakers. I used to feel that way about Moser and love the pieces I have, but now I feel they've become a bit too successful and well known , and spending too much time on time on strange fashion collabs and super-expensive pieces.

Part of the DB vibe is the need to flex. Car, watch, clothing/accessories. It has to be visible and recognizable across the disco-ball lit club. With Rolex, it’s the Sub, Daytona, sea-dweller, GMT and their variants. But not in white gold, because only you know what it is. No additional flex value for the extra cost. You can scratch that Rolex itch, enjoy the ownership experience and not shout “DB” by wearing a non-flex model. Such as an OP, Explorer, some DJs, Air-King, or Milgauss. Not every “flex model” owner is a DB. After all, DB-ery is a set of behaviors - the watch is just a prop.

Spot on with everything. I work in a casino and see easily 50+ Rolex, Patek and Audemars Piguet every day. 95% of the time, they don't know much (if anything) about watches. It was a gift or flex (or an investment lately).But when I see a Czapek, Sinn, Moser, etc., I know it is a watch enthusiast. That's the guy I want to talk to. That's the guy I want to be like.

Indie - few watches produced per year; generally also associated with “high horology” but not necessarily; most of the time will have in-house movements Microbrand - affordable watches using Japanese movements such as the NH35; mass-produced watches but still a lot less watches per year than major brands; usually cool watches with fun dials and cases.
