Btw - your guesses about how everything looks like male and female parts. It's actually one of the design ideas behind Alien. Majority of the animals are either based on futuristic artist or human biology. With how fallic and r-wordy it is - it hits into some fears never really explored before in the movies. It's a twisted version of getting pregnant an giving birth, that sometimes freaks out people - especially men, who in this universe also can be the "victims". 29:20 The head is shiny probably to enforce all the fears about bugs. Also they really wanted to make it look alien. 32:50 For modern screenings - definitely, but back then our knowledge of epilepsy, especially from the movies wasn't as advanced. It had to been until very big events like for example when Pikachu made explosion in Porygon episode that caused multiple kids to have an attack, that special measures were added to movies and tv shows. 35:30 It's a mechanism used to catch the prey faster or to reach further. At least that's how it works in real world, as this is based on real fish, who do that to catch food. A second jaw like element.
@davidrose27398 ай бұрын
LOVED your reaction to this classic. But now you MUST watch ALIENS (aka the sequel) and you definitely must watch the Director's Cut of that one also. It has over 20 minutes of additional footage, and it still amazes me how much good material ended up on the cutting room floor when they edited the film. Take care, and have a groovy day.

The alien is such an iconic creature design and boy was it at its peak with the original with how scary it was. The chest bursting scene was actually hidden from the rest of the actors so their reactions to when it happened were real. The face huggers are so disgusting and having acid blood I mean like cmon it’s so good. A shame the franchise stepped away from the horror in the sequels and chose to focus more on action. So I’m glad the new alien movie coming out will return to its horror roots. Aliens is a great sequel tho.

"You can't have a flame in space" Ever wonder what that orange thing in the sky is?
@SpearM30648 ай бұрын
Except that it isn't really a big ball of fire. That's a misconception. The sun glows because it is a very big ball of gas, and a process called nuclear fusion is taking place in its core. Nuclear fusion occurs when one proton smashes into another proton so hard that they stick together... and release some energy as well. This energy then heats up the other materials (other protons and electrons and such) nearby. This heating eventually grows out from the center (or core) of the star to the outside, finally leaving the surface and radiating out into space to be the heat and light we know stars emit. People, including scientists, sometimes say that the Sun "burns hydrogen" to make it glow. But that is just a figure of speech. Hydrogen really doesn't burn, it fuses into helium.

Uh oh, theatrical is the preferred 😂 Ridley stands by it. He only did the Director’s Cut because they asked him to. The biggest difference is the cocoon scene in the middle of Ripley running to the escape pod “A giant spider 69ing his head” I mean…🤣 I’ve also always thought that image was an eye and a little frown! Jazz hands scare gets another one! 😂 The white stuff in Ash is circulation fluid. The thing that shoots out of the alien’s mouth is called a pharyngeal jaw, which is a real thing some animals have, like moray eels Apprently Jones is Ripley’s, according to an old trading card. An in universe tech manual says his official purpose is rodent control on the ship “And we just live happliy ever after?! How are there sequels?!” 😒😐 Wait, you’re calling it a cult classic as a joke, right? Because it isn’t. Just a classic.

Trivia: Fun fact the Xenomorph/alien's were based off ants. The reason why is because the aliens have a queen and the stages of the aliens are the stages of an ant along with the way they act the aliens are the guards that protect the eggs and queen plus the queen spends time laying a bunch of eggs. Just like an ant queen pretty cool huh.

Jones, also referred as Jonesy, was a cat kept aboard the USCSS Nostromo as Ellen Ripley's pet. While the cat's official purpose was to control rodents aboard the ship, he also served as a source of relaxation and entertainment for the crew like a theory animal. So, this was the reason why a cat was brought into outer space. Yeah, see the difference between them and me I'll pass up my paycheck I'll go get a new job I'm not putting my life at risk for exploring and unknown world and secondly as soon as I saw that face hugger on that guy's face, I would have been gone I would have stolen the shuttle and left with a cat.

Fun fact: The Director's Cut is a director's cut in name only. Ridley Scott agreed to do an alternate version for Fox, but he still prefers the theatrical cut. Some of the model-based vfx shots are kind of compromised on the Director's Cut, as well, with slight motion judder that was not present in the original version. I also don't think the cocoon scene really fits where they crammed it in, either. It's like a big brick wall in the middle of the race-against-the-clock pacing. The theatrical cut is just better, is what I'm saying, I guess. 😆
