my very controversial opinion is that i actually think taking a break was a good idea for rory. she always did everything perfectly and according to plan. she was burning herself out and getting that criticism really hit her. i mean if one single comment can make you doubt all of your life decisions then you’re not ready. she needed time off to breathe and do sth else to assure herself that her path was the right one for her and go back with more confidence and focus. it was the right thing. now i do get lorelai tho bc stealing a yacht is just crazy and then dropping out of school of course that’s gonna be scary to a mother. and her parents going behind her back, co-signing rory’s decision when they’ve agreed to be on lorelai’s side must be really hurtful but i can’t blame emily and richard too much bc they were just trying to do the right thing. they should’ve talked to her tho before just taking rory in behind lorelai’s back.

Yep! I think Rory went about it the wrong way, but Yale is way too expensive to just be floating through random classes without a plan. Rory was feeling aimless. It's okay to take time off school if you aren't sure why you're there anymore. Obviously I don't agree with a lot of her other choices, but that's another story lol

I feel like one of the things Lorilei's parents disliked about her is her ability to handle her own problems most of the time. She never seemed to need them like they wanted her to so Rory crying to them really made them happy and feel needed so they gave her what she wanted rather than what she really needed which is a strong talking to about not giving up just cause of one mans opinion.

the criticism she got wasn't even bad. logan's dad was honest with her since she was really passive during her internship and she needed to show more initiative if she hoped to be an investigative journalist. idk what happened to her, at chilton, she was fine with paris not liking her but as she grew into adulthood she would freak out whenever she found out someone didn't think the sun shone out of her butt. jes was right when he said he couldn't really see her reporting from warzones and logan's dad was right too if you watch "day in the life." i think she's better off as a novel writer and/or manager/planner since she did well managing the yale daily news and the dor events.

Lorelai hates her mother so much but is not very different from her. She wants Rory to do what SHE (Lorelai) wants. She's just as controlling as Emily. Eventually you'll see that Rory actually fits in perfectly in her grandparents' world, but Lorelai is so insecure about losing her that she gets dramatic and guilt trips Rory for no reason. She doesn't even TRY to understand Rory's opinion.

This episode always gets me . 1) Rory barely even talks to Lane anymore and I love that Lane and her friends are doing their own thing and she's building a relationship with her mother. and 2) Rory just comes across as so immature here. It's pretty bad when one little criticism which wasn't that bad sends her into a tail spin. smh You should really watch the Valentine's Day episode. I don't think of you've done that yet (I could be wrong). 6x15. Everyone has strong feelings about it. It's less Valentine's Day and more cringe.

The dress is literally moulded to her body with a neckline reaching down below her sternum to a formal dinner with your parents where you are also supposed to discipline your child. This felt a bit like wrong time wrong place. I think I also remember hearing something about these dresses being "forced" on the actress by the studio, but take that as a grain of salt I am not sure.
