Swamp Thing is an avatar for The Green and will protect The Green by any means necessary (to announce its return in the comics some yrs back, there was a boardroom of oil tycoons and some secretary was decorating the place with pots of plants during the meeting. Then those tycoons decided there were gonna drill somewhere and those plants strangled every single one). Yes, Poison Ivy has a connection to The Green, but that's just a connection, by comparison

Yes, Holden, that is Alfred Molina and this is the second time I've heard his voice while a character is in combat with Merlin, the other one being the Sorcerer's Apprentice starring Jay Barushel and Nick Cage. Shoutout to Matt Ryan, the actor who has now played and voiced Constantine in live action, and in animation seamlessly for around a decade... Also he's Edward Kenway in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag too. If the film didn't have Batman in the movie, I'd think this would be more well liked in wider DC fan community, because this felt like a Justice League Dark comic, it does a good job telling everyone who these supernatural characters are... But with Batman there. Zatanna is in A LOT of DC media, like Batman TAS, Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice, Smallville, and games like Justice League Heroes and Injustice, but here... Um, spoilers, this is only really major role in the DCAMU, because the next appearance isn't complimentary for any character.

As for why Supes and the rest went full attack mode immediately: My assumption was that the spell doesn't just cause hallucinations, but also causes the people to react against their will. Which is why that guy at the start basically turned into a serial killer while under the influence of the magic. The spell removed rational thought.

What I love about Constantine is from an outward perspective he comes across as a really powerful mage but realistically as he himself has admitted he is actually very average at using using magic being the weakest magic user shown in this movie, his real skill is that he’s a con man and this works both for people and magic. He doesn’t really play by the standard rules of magic that other sorcerers do and that’s why he can outwardly look like he’s doing a lot more than he really is and it’s all because he works within the loopholes of magic to exploit it for his own ends

There is a 10 episode live action series of Swamp Thing from 2019 that ya’ll would enjoy. It fleshes out the character while also diving into the story of Alec Holland. Swamp Thing was heavily under utilized in the Justice League: Dark movie, but it’s worth noting that the typical 70-75 minute runtime these movies have to stick to are extremely difficult to introduce an entire side of a mythology (and the characters associated with that mythology) while also acknowledging the stories and characters that have come before. The DCAMU was always an uphill battle because they had to unfortunately run at the same time as the chaotic era of The Snyderverse films and the ups and downs of the Arrowverse. With DC constantly in upheaval, the DCAMU was always the last priority for DC. The simple fact these movies even exist (and turned out as well as they did despite some shortcomings) is quite amazing. And in comparison to the recent slate of lackluster DC animated movies, the DCAMU really was an amazing run of interconnected films for all of those people who grew up on that golden era of DC animation back in the 90s.

It's too bad you guys didn't read the comics with these characters when you were younger. Then you'd appreciate this movie(and the follow ups), more. I was a huge fan of the Swamp Thing books (as well as Man Thing in Marvel), and hope they do more with him. Hopefully you guys get to *"Batman & Harley Quinn".* It's a great little 3-way team-up with Bats, Harley, and Nightwing. That has it's own darkness, with humour, and a more adult edginess.

When Supes and Diana are attacking Bats, it's because Destiny's power was affecting them directly. He was physically there. Not miles away inside a ruby.😊 So he was able to affect (succeptable to magic) people's emotions at full strength. (Though technically, Diana should really have had more of a defensive capability against it, considering her own natural magical background)

It's worth noting that Zatanna Zatara is Batman's true love. She's one of the few people who knows the TRUE Bruce Wayne. (Like her, Alfred, and Dr. Leslie Thompkins. That's basically it.) Because she and Bruce have known each other since they were kids. Her father, Giovanni Zatara is the one who trained Batman to be a master of illusions and a master escape artist. Zatanna and Bruce were best friends and fell in love BEFORE there was ever a Batman. Like they trust each other more than anyone anywhere. ......with the one exception that Zatanna magically messed Bruce's memories once, and to him that was a MASSIVE betrayal, and he struggled to forgive her for a while. They've never quite completely gotten together because they're scared to, and because Batman is SO endlessly dedicated to Gotham, while Zatanna is dedicated to her travelling magic show, so it makes it hard for them to be together. Plus, the writers have no idea how to tell Batman stories when he has a god-tier sorceress by his side. One of the only moments they've ever both found complete happiness is when they were magically trapped in a fake reality where they were married. But...Batman being Batman, and being so accepting of his misery, he was still willing to break the spell and drag Zatanna out of it with him. If Bruce could drop his Batman-ness even like 3%, he and Zatanna would almost definitely be married and actually happy. 🤷‍♂

It could be argued there isn't really a "true love" for Batman. Tom King's 2017 run with the Catwoman marriage/proposal ark touched on Batman not really being able to commit to any love because of his commitment to being batman. The only in Canon marriage was with Talia but you can easily argue either one of the 3 to be his true love. I don't think writers will let him commit though.

The paranormal side of DC with Justice League Dark is my favorite, but since it's less caped crusaders and epic fights a lot of people just don't give it a second thought. Constantine is among my favorite comicbook characters EVER and while Keanu's performance in the 2000's movie was good, Matt Ryan IS John Constantine the same way JK Simmons IS J Jonah Jameson. Ripped straight off the pages into live action.

The 'point' or intention of the Felix Faust side plot was to show Zatanna's true power and why she purposefully holds her back. Alongside, it shows the real weight of people with real power actually wielding it, which is what we see in Destiny becoming this man corrupted by evil magic for having no restraint in his usage. Zatanna chooses to stop, stay a good person, and not kill.

Oh forgot to mention as you did as well, i would check out Justice League Unlimited. It us unbelievably good and even carries a story over from the original Batman and Superman animated series. I always fund myself rewatching many if the storylines and the commentary from Bruce Timm on several of the episodes. Like him, my favorite character is The Question. I also recommend the first 2 seasons if Young Justice as they were stellar. The seasons after were......... questionable due to outside boxes being checked off. Thats all i am going to say haha. This movie was good because they actually leaned into the darkness. Which is always where DC is best. Instead of being afraid of their adult audience, I always think they should own it. I highly recommend the Constantine: City of Demons film. And if you haven't, Young Justice is a sweet spot of child vs. adult entertainment.

I think when people hallucinate others as demons and monstrosities, it isn’t just a visual hallucination but a psychological one too. If it was purely a visual hallucination, Superman would be like, “lol nice try idiot”, but I think the hallucination is deeper and convinces his mind that what he is seeing is real.

These are great and I'm curios to see how you will react now that you are close to the Endgame if you will. Please when you are done with this series watch some of the individual movies and adaptations. Like the Dark knight returns part 1 and 2. Batman under the red hood are top tier dc animated movies. I could reccomend more (and leave off others) but those are good to start. If you want to show Jen some good Superman stories that are also top shelf. If you want good DC films, stick to those outside of the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU). While I enjoyed the DCAMU overall, it suffered from many of the same issues as the New 52, and for some reason, even tried to adapt Post-Crisis storylines like Batman: Hush. The DCAMU often felt overly dark and edgy just for the sake of being different, and it never really established its own identity beyond being a lose inspiration of the New 52. In contrast, the DC Animated Universe (DCAU) had a timeless art style and a cool retro-futuristic world that felt unique. The standalone DC animated films also stand out by often using the original art styles from the comics, which is so much better than the modern, grounded look of the DCAMU films. I loved Flashpoint, but I much prefer the pre-DCAMU films like Justice League: Doom to the later ones. The earlier films had a unique charm and storytelling style that resonated with me more than the darker, edgier approach of the DCAMU. Also I just do not like this take on Superman at all. Justice League Dark Apokolips is a film my 13 year old self would've loved but I just cannot give a flash about that movie. Some Zack Snyder levels of DC.

Justice League Dark Apokolips was a great movie it finished the storylines between the other movies. How did you not like it? Did you not connect the storylines from Justice League vs Teen Titans flashpoint etc? The ones you are suggesting are just else world films in Animated form. Yes they are good one offs, but stating Apokoips was some Zack Snyder levels of DC is just bad. Bad take.

Back then i was not familiar with dr destiny and dreamstone. I did see him in justice league series and sandman comic that retcons the stone being an important belonging of morpheus the new sandman aka the famous sandman

Matt Ryan is the best Constantine actor, sorry keanu.... but ryan went from a failed series, to being a regular in the CW's Arrowverse, to voicing him in the DC animated universe, and he still does the voice in the latest Crisis on infinite earths movies from this year.... and he's in the single best Assassins Creed game to date, Black Flag.
