To make it more noticeable, a member of the crew painted the stapler red. Swingline didnt actually make a red one until this gained a huge following and they were getting tons of requests for the stapler in the movie. They've been making them ever since. They also give every new employee one on their first day. 😀

That's awesome! Similar story.... after the success of the movie Groundhog Day, the town of Woodstock, IL (where it was filmed) began having annual week-long festivities around Feb 2 commemorating the movie! They have markers all around the town .. "Bill Murray's Puddle", "Ned's Corner" etc..

It’s not true…Swingline was making these (and they were made of metal, not plastic like Milton’s) as early as 1988, if not sooner…I know this as a fact because I got my first office job in 1987 and got a red Swingline 747. They let me take it with me when I left and I’ve taken it with me to every job I’ve had since (it is THAT good!) and it is now sitting next to my home computer. The part about the crew painting one red may be true but the rest of your comment would be considered an Urban Legend, I’m afraid!

From the opening office scene, you guys 100% GOT IT. So many people don't get this movie. You especially got the point of Peter getting hypnotized. It's the sense that you have more freedom than you think you do. "I'm just gonna stop going (to work)." People don't change their situation because change is scary (like Dante in Clerks). It's empowering to see Peter just do what's good for him, without flinching. Oh BTW, Jennifer Anniston's boss at Chotchkie's is Mike Judge, the writer and director of the movie (and creator and voices of Beavis and Butthead, as well as creator of King of the Hill)

The Red Swingline Stapler did not exist before this movie. From Wikipedia: Stephen Root says he realized the movie's impact when people started asking him to sign their staplers. The red Swingline stapler featured prominently in the film was not available until April 2002 when the company released it in response to repeated requests by fans of the film. Its appearance in the film was achieved by taking a standard Swingline stapler and spray-painting it red. Root says when he shows up on sets today, the crew has usually ordered several boxes of red Swingline staplers and left them waiting for him

I had an idea for a sequel called _Prison Space._ The idea is that it didn't matter about the building being burned down, as the main office, wherever it was, figured out who performed the original crime. And the sequel would start where this movie ended, as the police show up and arrest the three of them. They end up in prison, obviously, and we would go from there. Meanwhile, they also realize Milton took the money and was the arsonist, and Interpol was alerted and tried to find Milton, but every time they show up to where he was, he has just left for another part of the world. This would repeat throughout the film. The three guys would then be recruited to help find Milton in order for early release. It was just an outline, and it would probably suck compared to the original movie, sure, but I'm a writer, and this movie always gets my juices flowing. Well? 😝

Milton is played by Stephen Root, the same actor who played Fuches in Barry. He has unlimited range, from the bombastic owner in Newsradio to the meticulous spy master in Turn. Great movie with a great cast. Ron Livingston has had a long career, Gary Cole is fantastic in everything, Deidrich Bader is a perfect supporting actor, I love Richard Riehle, John McGinley needs no introduction, and David Herman's had a wonderful career in voice acting. Just a true treasure cast.

He was also the voice of Hank's friend Bill Dauterive on King of the Hill. The boss Gary Cole (Lumberg) is also a legend. His breakthrough was on a tv drama called Midnight Caller where he played a radio DJ. He also portrayed Mike Brady in the Brady Bunch movies, Will Ferrell's dad in Talladega Nights, main roles on the tv series Veep and NCIS..and does many voices on animated shows like Family Guy, Kim Possible, Bob's Burgers,
