I once made an announcement at the Joann's I used to work at that anyone in the store more than 10 minutes after closing would be assigned a number and hunted for sport. The two ladies that were left had a blast running around the store trying to outpace our employees. We got them in like 5 min (cornered in the Christmas section) and herded them outside. We were all laughing and enjoying it. Some people just know how to have fun and others just don't.

"Fastest I ever got fired." Should be "Only time I ever got fired." Highly doubtful you're going around getting innocently fired by labor law violators. Charlotte's channel is filled with people falsely accused bc they enforcing personal boundaries by people who were horrible to them. Thanks to Daniel, other commenters, and my subsequent research, I have now learned way more than I ever could have imagined about accidental Zoom self-love. That clip is actually a commercial for Pornhub released on May 28, 2020, for International Masturbation Day. It's still hilarious even though it's scripted. That said, such a mishap, if you can call it that, is now known as "pulling a Toobin" named after CNN legal analyst and writer for 'The New Yorker', Jeffrey Toobin, who actually gained such exposure on a Zoom meeting with his colleagues in 2020.

I saw the same idiots studying in the library for years and they never understood to get the f* out in time. How the same people are smart enough to get a degree is beyond me.

I got in trouble at work for this. It was almost an hour after closing time, and customers still refused to stop shopping and leave. We told them in person that the store was closed, offered to help them get something quickly, etc., but they just kept shopping at a snail's pace. I made an announcement that the store was closed, and for employees to make their way to the exit before the guard dogs were released for the night. It was effective.

Same place once had a dangerous gas leak in the bakery right next to the oven that refused to turn off. Gas plus open flame=bad bad things. People from the utility company said the store had to evacuate immediately. Customers refused to leave. The fire department showed up and tried to get people out, even carrying people out, who just went back inside and started shopping again. Some customers were carried out THREE TIMES. Police came to assist. People angrily fought them and kept going back inside. The air was so thick with gas that the first responders were using masks and tanks, but idiots were still trying to shop. They started arresting people but ran out of room in the police cars, so they started zip tying idiots to the fence across the parking lot. We had a whole parking lot full of suicidal idiots all screaming and fighting to get back into a store filled with gas that could ignite at any moment, like the stupidest zombie movie you ever saw. And for days after, people kept coming into the store to scream about the cops that had been trying to save their stupid lives.

So one of the clients said he had to go, so I naturally assumed the meeting was over, hung up the call and loudly called my fiance "you fucking arsehole". Only the meeting wasn't over. It had continued without one of the clients. Everyone else stayed on and my fiance was unmuted and the call was being recorded. Luckily for me, the mic cut off mid sentence so it wasn't really audible too much but I spent a week in abject fear of being fired. In retrospect, it turns out our new client is freaking awesome so even if they'd heard they probably would have found it funny. A lot of time people would get lied to, my colleagues would say things like it's a one time donation or it automatically stops after 3 months etc. This was exactly the reason we would call, to make sure they understood everything. Not me, but I was the manager who had to fire the guy. For context, this was at a store in the local mall that sold a wide variety of party goods, everything from beer pong to bachelor parties, and this happened in the late 2000's. It was the New Guy's (NG) first day, and after we got done with his paperwork (tax forms, etc) I was explaining to him the various employee benefits and expectations, including the fairly generous discount employees were given as a way to encourage us to use the merchandise. (This was so that we would be more knowledgeable and better able to answer customer questions, etc) Now, over the hour or so it took to get NG started on his first day, he had dropped the N-word a number of times. The first time he said it, I called him on it and told him not to use that word. The second time I called him on it, his excuse was "sorry, I thought you meant just on the sales floor." The third time his excuse was "sorry, it's just a normal word we say in my hometown." Now, I'm also from that same hometown, and it's not common, first of all, and second, I don't care where you come from, DO *NOT* use that word in front of me ever again. After that, NG went to my jr manager and complained about me to her and, of course, my jr manager having known me for years, told the guy I wasn't one to irritate, and using racist language was a sure fire way to irritate me quick. NG said he understood. Good, that obstacle handled. Now, I know you might be wondering why he wasn't fired then and there, but this was over 15 years ago and when I asked my store manager about it I was told there was a "protocol" we had to follow in order to get him fired. But dude was already on my hit list, and on the fast track to out the door, trust me. But I didn't have to wait long. One of the things we sold in the store were these hideous looking "3 hole barbie" blow up dolls. When I went to the break room to eat my lunch, there was a "barbie" doll laying on the break table, and it had clearly been used. There was drying white fluid on (and I presume in) the doll, and there was drying *yellow* fluid on the doll and on break table. Yep. After NG had used the doll, he had peed on it, while it was on the break table that we all had to use. So i tracked him down and asked "hey, did you use that doll in the break room?" NG: "Yeah, you said we could try out the merchandise." Me: "... After you bought it... and got home...to your house. " NG: "oh..." Me: "you're going to have to clean that up..." By the time he was done cleaning the break room (and I made him clean the ENTIRE room while an employee watched him) I had the paperwork all filled out and NG was fired before he was even done with his first shift on his first day. I couldn't fire him for being a racist, I couldn't fire him for masturbating at work or peeing on the break table, but I could sure as hell fire him for stealing. Dude had the audacity to come back 2 weeks later for his paycheck, and brought his mother, who was in full Karen mode, demanding to know when he could apply for unemployment. I was happy to inform her that people who get fired for stealing and then masturbating with the product while in the break room were not eligible for unemployment. He left with the employee hotline and I'm glad to say I never saw him again.

Because they weren't able to get their shopping done on time we had closed down the registers for the night, they would not be able to purchase their items and we were leaving. If they choose to keep shopping anyways they would be locked in the store overnight and he didn't care what they did because we have insurance. It was awesome.

Story time: I used to work in a Starbucks in a mall. We weren’t a kiosk, we had an actual store with a gate. So when we closed I had to pull the gate down with this hook thing. Monday-Saturday the mall was open until 9, but on Sunday it closed at 6. However no customers ever seemed to realize this, despite mall hours and individual store hours being postponed literally everywhere. So that meant on Sunday’s when 6 rolled around I’d have to stand by our entrance, waiting to close the gate, holding the hook like the grim reaper, and stopping everyone from trying to come in. We had an unofficial rule that if you were in line before we closed you could stay in line, and in the store until you got your order, but once your order was ready you had to leave. This also meant I couldn’t shut the gate until all those people left, thus I had to stand by the entrance denying people access to the store we were trying to close. No exceptions. The only exceptions we were supposed to allow, was if someone wanted brewed coffee. That was it. I had one girl one time who tried to get past me, but I wasn’t going to be fooled. Her: I can’t get a drink? Me: Well what do you want? Her: A grande. Me: If it’s a brewed coffee. Her: Oh, no I wanted a frappe. Me: Sorry.

@@felinemoonchild so we weren’t really supposed to do that. We did it sometimes in the past, but our manager didn’t really like us doing it, so when I became a shift I didn’t do it. I do remember one time where I was closing and it was just me and the shift and we did that. This woman tried to come underneath and I had to tell her we were closed. I gave her a water so she’d go away, but she was honestly a terrible customer for a completely different reason. The first time I met her she asked if she could just by a tea bag, or if she had to pay for a cup of tea. I asked the shift on duty, and we both agreed that we’d feel bad charging her for a tea if all she wanted was a tea bag. So I sold the tea bags to her at a ridiculously lower price and as soon as I rang her out, she asked for a hot cup. I immediately knew I got played, but I had no choice but to give her the cup. I told the shift and she was also pissed about it, but we shrugged it off. The gate interaction was the second time I met her, and just cemented my view of her as a person. But don’t worry, there’s a happy ending. The final time I ever saw her, she tried to do what she did the first time, and the shift that was working that day was having none of it. She told her that she couldn’t do that, and when the customer was like, “I literally get it all the time,” the shift was like, “well you shouldn’t be, so from now on you’re going to be charged full price. Including today.” And I never saw her again! I told the shift about what had happened, and that I was glad she was the one who dealt with her since that shift did not mess around. Look if you’re not going to drink the tea right away, I’ll just give you the tea bags and the cup, but at least pay full price for it! I had one woman basically order this, but the difference was she wanted to put the tea bags in herself, so I just gave her a cup of hot water, with the bags on the side. And she paid for it like she was supposed to! Be that person!

Here’s the fun part… she also works at the same store!! (My manager asked, “What do you think of this one?” When we were looking for seasonal help more than a year ago. I glance at the application, recognize the handwriting, “Yep. Definitely a good worker. Can siblings work at the same store?” Turns out, we can). This other wild karen tries to follow, and my sis says, “No, ma’am, the mall is closed. You need to leave.” “But you’re here!” “I work here.” “I just want to get a calendar.” “This is a *game* store. You need to go.” “I just want one thing.” “No. The store’s closed.” “Someone else is here.” >>me, finishing the sale and getting stuff bagged “They’re about to leave.” “Can’t I just look around?” “NO! Get out of our store!” >>me finally clueing in, “Ma’am, unless you have an item on hold, you will need to leave.” >>final customer leaves rapidly “I do have something on hold!” “And the name on it?” She can’t answer, I know she’s BSing. “Right. Please leave right now, and stop harassing my coworker.” Sis and I look very little like each other. We did have to call security to get this lady to leave!

Anyway, the manager wanted to know who played that on the speakers and no one (including security) told the manager it was my friend. Those people never ever overstayed past closing again.

Ooooh the call center one, I felt that on a personal level right there! I literally had to tell a client at my IT job at one point that I can refuse her service and close her ticket if she refuses to give me her ID and keep insisting for my full name! Like you don't need to know that! Needless to say I did hang up on her and since I had superiors that used to be in my place with that SAME PERSON, I got a pass cause I handled it correctly

On my first day working at a health insurance company, I was with a group of new hires. I arrived early and met with a group of other people who were there for their first-day orientation and training, and everyone was dressed professionally for the most part. This one guy was really set apart from the others by how he dressed (he was wearing khakis and a polo, but it was all wrinkled) and by the fact that he was constantly on his phone. The first thing he did when they showed us around the building was ask for the wi-fi password. He was related to one of the other employees, who had basically vouched for him. He didn't last the first half hour of working there because he wouldn't stop asking for the wi-fi password or looking at his phone. Never seen anybody lose their job that quickly in my life.

I worked in a call center for Whirlpool projects for exactly 5 days. I have never had so many people scream at me in my life. My favorite was a new mother whose fridge had been making loud noises all night. Her first sentence was “I’m not going to yell at you” and by the time I was finished with the call she was screaming so loud her whole neighborhood must have heard. The east coast callers were the worst, the west coast were the most laid back and the midwestern callers constantly apologized to me for bothering me. I hated that job.

My lovely late dad, was a press photographer, the downside was family and friends would always ask him to do their wedding photos, even Robert Plants daughters wedding!! They grew up together in same area of UK, anyway he declined as he hated doing wedding photos, the responsibility of it used to make him actually physically ill, so stressful. He once was doing them for a friend of my parents wedding (free of course!) and he forgot to put film in the camera!! It was obviously a long time ago, when cameras weren't digital, sooo it was for all the outside shots of the bride and groom, so he told them that the photos hadn't come out very well because of the lighting outside and he actually got them to put on their wedding attire and re shoot the photos for them a couple of days later. Bless him! He never did a wedding again as it made him so ill!

I got fired from Target. When they hired me HP was worried that at 46, a former business owner, having had a job as a VP in charge of quality control and training, I was overqualified. I lasted 13 days. For starters, the floor killed my feet. Worse yet, they put me in the nightmare sections, Baby Goods and Shoes. OMG...people suck! When I proved my worth, they moved me to womens clothing and it was bathing suit season. Again, people suck! They kept tearing off the bikini bottoms vag area liners, throwing on the floor of the changing room and stealing the suits! So I knew when one was stolen because they would come out of the changing rooms, other clothes in hand, literally, no one ever hangs these clothes up themselves, and POOF no suits! I had to check the rooms to make sure they were perfect and when I told the 22 year old who was my supervisor about it she said it was expected! Now, when I was younger, I did loss prevention so I knew about "shrinkage". I told the very young department manager if the store manager knew this was the policy and she said, "No. We don't bother him with details like this." OMG...so she was letting people get away with stealing and had no clue what happens to bottom lines when shrinkage tips the scales. My reply to her was, "I guess you don't want a raise this year do you?" The scorn on her face is amazingly burned into my brain. I knew she was petty when I noticed that each shift handled the return to rack. This is where all the clothes found out of place but you don't know where to put them and the clothes those rabid customers would try three sizes for each outfit on and NEVER rehang them! (Can you tell I don't like that?) So the shift towards the end would all clear the rack but no one did it the same way. Some would put all the sizes mixed up on the main site rack (the wrong way) and some would put them in size order (the right way). The mini manager had written instructions on how she wanted it done and her idea of doing it right was for one person at a time would take the returns rack to a section, empty the rack and return it to the changing area. So this thing went back and forth for about two hours before the end of shift. Naturally more of what was just put back would end up with more clothes as people kept going into the changing room. There were two of these racks and she wanted one to stay empty because it "was less messy looking". The way the job got done was a cluster F. Needless to say I spoke up. She didn't like that. I asked her to come to the desk where the instructions were and acted like I was reading them. She said I was wrong, that isn't what the note said. I stepped aside and asked her to point out where I was wrong. I wasn't. Again, burned in image of her ire! Then I asked the group how the returns rack was to be emptied because I had been told three different ways. Mini manager child said it was to be done her way and after nearly two weeks of working there I should know what she expected. Now, I am old, my feet hurt, seeing things being stolen and expecting us to walk all over hell and back to put returns out, just to have to do it again really fast at shift end was killing this old girl. I tipped the scales by asking to be moved to cashier and jewelry. Mini manager had wanted that transfer. She then "told" on me, saying I wasn't a team player and she got to fire me. It was end of shift, my feet were throbbing, I had handled the valentine's Day jewelry section so you can imagine the mess. When she fired me, I smiled, walked to the store managers office, knocked on the door and opened it to say, "The womens changing room had at least three dozen pantie liners from the bikini bottoms on the floor and in the trash can because lil miss bossy girl was allowing people to steal them and had been long before I started the job. She is also stealing by mishandling employee time and I quickly said how and to check her notes on the desk. I sat in my car, so freaking happy and relieved to be done with that nightmare of a job. That night I started my career of flipping houses. I couldn't go back to the VP job because digital technology had ruined the business and the government was offering grants to learn a new profession. I used it to buy a HUD house and offered a mortgage with a low down through nepotism. My new business was amazing. I got to help people who had crap jobs like working at Target. Oh, by the way, Target makes everyone do cheering at the start of the day. I slipped in words to the cheer that made me very happy as I pretended to sing really badly! Small bites...small bites...sm bits make me so happy!

oh grrrl, and people try to say target's better than walmart. obviously it's not. because i swear, i saw almost the exact same sh1t when i worked at wally world. only i had it coming from _two Different_ floor managers. for some stupid reason, it was decided that this tiny piss hole of a store needed Two managers running a single Department. not a whole floor, Just the bloody Shoe Department! we had maybe six full two sided shelves and one long one lining two side walls. explain to me why that takes Two managers in the first place. add to this Neither of them liked the other and would take their horse sh1t out on the temps. i worked for two months (long enough to pay off a phone bill.) before i walked. though honestly, i expected to be canned at any moment before i made the choice myself. one of the idiots was always thinking she was sooo important. like she was some kind of role model for us poor peons. she was all chipper and smarmy one time... saying, "now see kitty," (i Never gave her permission to call me such a unprofessional thing in the first place) "if you work real hard, maybe in five years, you might get close to *_my_* position in the store." i looked her straight in the eyes, didn't even grin and said, "what makes you think i plan on working this dead end job that long." and walked back on the floor. i Hate people like that. and i will take every bit of spite and chance to knock them down and remind them they're Never so far above the rest that they can't fall from their perceived high horse. Especially if they make it a point to try pissing me off by taking advantage of other people they Know can't fight back. like i told one of the other temps, "you need this job. i Don't. and if i can make my exit from this place a little better for those stuck here, hey, it's all good." i got called to the office the next time i had work. i had already typed up my two weeks notice before they even thought they made the decision. they said they were gonna give me "another chance" because they were "good people like that." eyah. horse sh1t they were. you don't hold a person with severe arthritis over a barrel of doing the heavy work just because you can, like they were, if you're "good people". dicks. i walked passed the office the two karens shared, into the store manager's office and told him all. that he needed to clean up how he handled the floor because he dun kcufed up by putting those two in charge of Anything much less a whole department. and to watch his ass because at least One was gunning for his post and they weren't going to be nice about how they took him down. i also added that i Had thought about giving my two weeks but that i had decided that even if they wanted to "give me another chance" i wasn't giving Them one. unlike you i wasn't heading to anything else. i was actually on the verge of ending up in ccu by that point and wasn't feeling anything but sickly and mean. lol
