I've actually seen a scientific paper classifying "positive tears" into four categories and "achievement tears" were one category (and "beauty tears" were another). The triggers for each person with each circumstance seems so random sometimes; Johnny's fighting scene might have gotten me during a particular circumstance but it didn't happen to, BUT one scene that DID get me regarding "achievement tears" was when Porsha during her final song sang the lines of "I don't fear you, I can't hear you" right at her killer dad :D That part also got (if I'm remembering correctly) the reactor "JV's Galactic Adventures" too.

Jimmy is a foil to Buster, and a dark reflection of what Buster could have been when you compare this audition scene with the audition scene from the first movie. Buster may not have liked the acts, but he always let them finish and made notes on their talents and shortcomings to see if anything gelled with the show he wanted to make. Jimmy shuts them down as soon as he decides he doesn't like them, never explains why, and is waiting for the acts to make a show for him without even trying to fit them together in his head. Buster cares about and empathizes with his performers, and encourages them at every turn to try and bring oit their best. Jimmy doesn't care about anything but looking good and making money and threatens everyone under him at the drop of a hat... if your best isn't out you're gone, and he doesn't care otherwise. Buster treats his assistant with respect and care, he puts up with her shortcomings because he knows her strengths far outweigh her weaknesses and trusts her explicitly with crucial tasks because he knows when the chips are down she won't fail him. Jimmy treats his assistant like crap, threatens to fire him constantly, demands absolute perfection or else, and has him be a glorified coffee gofer rather than let him be significantly involved at any point in anything consequential. Buster is in it for the love of putting on an amazing show and making everyone, performers and audience alike happy. Jimmy is in it for money and glory and screw everyone else, if it doesn't benefit him or stroke his ego it doesn't matter. Buster seems to be shady at first and stretches the truth now and again, but it is only out of absolute determination to make his show happen and his natural honesty and earnestness shines through. Jimmy seems straight and honest at first, and is always brutally honest about his intents, and is blatant about his focus on his pride and his pocketbook, with his natural viciousness and cruelty always just under the surface and close enough to notice. Buster Moon remaining true to himself initially makes him a huge failure, but eventually carries him to being an even huger success. Jimmy Crystal remaining true to himself initially makes him a huge success, but ultimately carries with it his doom to an even more catastrophic failure. It is amazing how they are foil.

The difference is that Buster is just as passionate about theater as any performer. He may not be a performer, but he understands the magic of theater. Jimmy is just the owner of a casino that happens to have a theater attached. In the end, he is just a mob boss who only cares about the profit his casino pulls in. He has no passion. Not even for his own daughter (and he probably divorced her mother).

When the auditions were happening with Crystal Wolf, you have to remember why he was doing it. Simply, he's looking for one his daughter can be in that's easy to do and he can easily be praised for it. Where it's so easy, but grandstanding that she can shine with no effort. The last one with the flamingos was possible as it looked like a good spectacle, but with all the moves they were doing, it's only possible with them, not Porsha.

I have to say that I love this movie. Like, no joke, I feel that it just took everything that was good about the first movie and ramped it up to crazy proportions. They managed to hit the emotional arcs like a bloody sledgehammer, especially in the last act. I won't lie, I teared up TWICE during the final concert. Clay Calloway's song, of course, but Portia's song actually choked me up, of all things! Whatever way you slice it, it was just an amazingly well done movie all around. Also, I'm not upset at the one omission from the original cast: Mike. The movie (and characters) are better off without him. There's no references to him, there's no mention of him, none of that. It's like he was a bad experience that they've all just... collectively agreed to move on from and forget. Which, with a toxic person like that is all for the best. One thing that did occur to me is that Nooshy (the lynx) is almost a redemption of a street performer. She is absolutely generous and kind, she doesn't fuss at people, demanding that she deserves better from them. Heck, she's even good with kids... like I love how she handled that little turtle that came into the dance area, just being playful with him, and when he gave her the candy, she was legitimately and openly grateful to him... rather than fussing about not getting enough of a tip. She's really heartwarming and a great addition to the crew.
@GuukanKitsune2 жыл бұрын
I always saw it as Mike either didn't get away and got killed in the end, or went to ground completely to escape the bears and was forced to entirely give up performing. He performed at the theater ruins knowing full well it would draw the bears attention. Which is why he chose to sing 'My Way' on the stage that night... it's a 'no regrets' kind of song, it was probably gonna be his last performance, and it fit.
@Drake8442212 жыл бұрын
@@GuukanKitsune Yeah, I am just pretty sure that he got eaten. I don't think he was thinking big picture enough to think about pulling the attention of the bears. @GuukanKitsune2 жыл бұрын
@@Drake844221 You see, that's where we differ: I don't think that Mike wasn't thinking about drawing attention. I think he damn well was. He just didn't care... which is again, why he sang 'My Way'. Surprised that Gunther only said, "Super jerk" and didn't reuse his line in the previous film, "Total super-jerk dinkleschplatt." That would have been funny. I just found out that the voice of Nooshy, the cat who teaches Johnny how to dance, is the actress who plays Shuri in "Black Panther." When I watched this movie, I thought she (Nooshy) was Australian. Mr. Crystal reminds me of Simon Cowell. I love Alfonso, the way he compliments Meena when she's at a low point is so adorable, when I watched this movie last week, I got all excited cause I knew he was gonna be an important character. And I think the reason why Clay Callaway wears red is to remember his wife, because her name was Ruby. I gotta give it to Halsey, she did such a great job voicing such an unlikeable character. In the scene where Buster gives her the pep talk and tells her Rosita is better off doing the lead role, I was telling her in my mind, "He's not FIRING you, girl! He literally just said he wants you to SWITCH ROLES! He never said 'Fire'!" and then "He never said he hated you!" When Rosita says, "Release the piglets," it's like in "The Croods": "Release the baby!" I love it that the voice of Alfonso is the one who's singing with Meena in "I Say a Little Prayer" and not Darius

Something about the first one didn't really grab me, whether it was the sort of obvious plot(the trailer really gave away the majority of the story)or the fact I sort of disliked Buster Moon in the first one, etc; The scene with Ash being given the small cheque before leaving with Buster is a reference to Scarlett Johannsen being given less money than some of her counterparts for "Black Widow"(the one she did the lawsuit for). "Otherwise, I'll throw you off the roof!" "He won't, he won't..." Lmao, yes he will! Someone needs to give the guy who stayed up all night making that popup book needs a goddamn raise! Johnny's dance fight at the end is so awesome. Really, the whole "Out of This World"performance was thousands of times better than the performance in "Sing". All the characters came back. Same here! I had chills literally all day long after seeing this movie, because of SO many of the ending scenes. Including the SOUND of that huge, huge audience singing back when Ash signaled them to. I haven't been to any HUGE performances of that scale, so the sound and "sixth sense of an all-humans connection" took me by surprise. Afterwards I found a KZbin video of an actual U2 concert also with a huge audience where Bono held the microphone up to signal the audience to sing back and it had the same type of sound/feel.

Hurray! I've been looking forward to u doing this movie reaction since I first watched your reaction to the first one. U liked it so much, I knew you'd like this one a lot too. As did I. Yeah, Johnny's even more awesome in this one. Love that they included his dad again, and I love the addition of Nooshy. It's so funny that u thought Johnny was really trying to ask her out before he offered to buy her something to eat. Then he asked her and that's exactly what she assumed🤣💖Couple or just friends, I think those two are super cute 🥰

Clay Calloway was my favorite new character though I might be biased because I have a fan admiration for Bono; he’s awesome! Also, might be an unpopular opinion, but I found Miss Crawly to be funnier and less annoying in the sequel than the first one.

I did NO research prior to watching this film... so I had NO IDEA Bono voiced Clay Calloway... and I STILL immediately gravitated toward Clay, hehe. But I DO like lions, so there you go :P I had chills literally all day long after seeing this movie, because of SO many of the ending scenes. Including the SOUND of that huge, huge audience singing back when Ash signaled them to. I'm pretty sure that it was implied that the Russian-mafia bear ate Mike at the end of the last movie. I have to say he was my least favorite character in the last movie and had almost no character development. The only reason he went back to do the show was to be on the tv and prove a point to a random people who heckled him in a crowd. He was still a selfish little prick at the end of the movie.

If I had to name the one thing about the plot that just really doesn't work, it's Porsha's arc. She's the whole reason her father almost canned the show and tried to kill Buster, yet when her performance comes around, she sings about how he no longer controls her life. What is she going on about? Most of his decisions were to appease her.
@supersasukemaniac2 жыл бұрын
Actually no, his actions where stil selfish, if she's a success, then he's a success by association, hence why he trys to shut down her part when he no longer supports the show.
@sathvamp1 Жыл бұрын
She's not the "ROOT" reason her father tried to kill Buster- he's just apparently an evil killer-- did you notice (I didn't notice I saw it a 2nd time) even BEFORE Porsha had any hint of being in the show, Crystal said to Buster "If you disappoint me, I'll throw you off the roof!" And he actually apparently meant it... for ANY little reason that would have come up. But you have a point regarding it being sort of unclear to us why Porsha defies him EXCEPT for the facts that he doesn't actually seem to REALLY care deeply about HER (just his reputation)... and at that end song, he WAS actually trying to get her to STOP performing. Remember, he says "Come back here!" So if he actually wanted the best for her, I'm not sure why he would say that, knowing that Moon totally accepted her back to perform.
@sathvamp1 Жыл бұрын
@@supersasukemaniac Yup exactly.
