Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) was in the Marines. One of the things they were taught was that if they were injured to hit the injury to numb it so you can carry on. He ad-libbed that lesson into the fight with Rey to show he was still feeling the injury from being shot by Chewie.

I remember how impressed and thrilled I was watching this movie the first time. I expected it to be derivitive, so didn't mind so much that the script was copy-and-pasted from the original film. I felt really it needed to do that to appeal to the OT fans who hated the prequels. I thought they created some good characters and I looked forward to seeing how they would develop. I didn't actually hate Disney Star Wars until the next film. Sorry to all the TLJ fans who are likely to attack my opinion now.

It was logical and wise to have Episode VII be a transition to a new cast. Rey is a strong character, and Daisy Ridley did very well. Same goes for Adam Driver as Ben/Kylo Ren. There was a fair amount of borrowing from the original trilogy, but I didn’t mind it.

I think that's very unlikely. They have seen enough decent stuff to care about the script, about decent writing that makes sense. And it's all over the place in the next two parts. There is no stellar writing in this one either, but it works pretty well on its own. Especially if you've only seen George's movies once. Or regard this as a random sci-fi movie instead of a Star Wars sequel. But it's when you have seen the whole trilogy that you begin to realize what a weak starting point this was, 8 and 9 makes 7 worse. It set the trilogy up for mediocrity, because it has the same tropes as Episode 4, just a different make-up. This means that the rebels of the OT didn't achieve anything, it's back to square 1. And let's not even mention what 9 meant for Anakin's sacrifice in 6. You might as well spit on the fans, after 8 had taken mutliple shits on us. 8 is so stupid on so many levels that I wouldn't even know where to begin, it's the absolute worst and it cemented 9's failure. They were trying to analyze and make sense out of this movie, just like we did back in 2015. But there is just no way, because everything is eventually thrown out the window. A crucial part (no spoilers) is even thrown out twice. If the movies contradicted each other once it would be bad enough, twice is just embarrassing.

“Why did they kill Han?” Harrison Ford has wanted to be “out” from Star Wars since when they made Ep.5. Ford had been holding out on signing a contract to make the final film in the trilogy, Ep.6. When they were writing and filming Ep.5, Ford still had not signed on to do an Ep.6. So, George Lucas found a way to kill off the character without actually killing him. They encased Han Solo in carbonite. Solo survived he initial freezing process and was taken away by a bounty hunter. Ford did not want to do another entire Star Wars trilogy. He came back for one film under the condition that they kill the character.

The actress that played Rey could not do an American accent so she kept her English one. The actor that plays Finn is British and was able to do an American accent. There are cameos in this movie, some you see, some you hear.. The trooper that dropped his weapon when Rey used the mine trick was actor Daniel Craig, James Bond.. The troopers voice saying incoming fighter on the planet is Kevin Smith, and there are a few more..

We were both initially excited, but I quickly realized something was off as soon as Rey was able to outfly tie fighters in the Millennium Falcon, like Han Solo, with no experience. The movie, and the entire sequel trilogy, quickly went downhill from there.

Jyn & Ryl, don't listen to haters. Their opinions come from arrogance and ignorance. We got sufficient explanation in the movie. Rey is very strong in the Force. Also, it's pretty clear she knows her way around the ship yard. She has probably flown many ships. She may have even flown the Falcon just around the area. In the novel, it's explained that she has used flight simulators. Her knowledge plus the Force has helped her.

Han was killed off because the story is that was the only way Harrison Ford would sign on one more time You see, this role has alienated him from the series because he wanted Han killed from the Empire Strikes Back, when he was frozen in that brick of carbonite and when he wasn't and came back for Return of the Jedi, he wanted to be killed AGAIN It's a complicated history Han's death was the beginning of the resentment and animosity towards this trilogy

The sequels are not the story George Lucas meant to tell. In fact, when Disney bought Star Wars from him, they actually rejected the story treatments he had written for the sequels in favor of letting different directors make up the story as they went along, and it shows.

I hope you will enjoy your time with these and that not too many people will give you grief about it. I'm not a big fan of the trilogy myself and episode 9 is legitimately one of the most soulless movies I've seen. But the Star Wars fan base is so toxic I feel like l always want to defend the actors at least. They're the only thing (almost) holding these movies together. And ep. 9 is so bad BECAUSE they tried so hard to reverse everything 8 built and appeal to that same toxic fan base. But to be fair 8 also dismissed ideas from 7 (especially Finn got the short end of the stick). Anyway - regardless of what I think I hope you will have a good time.

just know these newer movies aren't as universally liked as the previous ones (though i guess even the prequels weren't technically as liked either as the original 3 movies), and they also don't necessarily continue the story from the previous movies. it obviously has some of the characters and references some old events but it's really trying to start a new story. personally i still feel Episode 7 was a decent start to a new trilogy (despite copying Episode 4 basically), i had questions i had and was excited for the answers, but Episodes 8 and 9, ehhhhhh.......

@@MeanMrMustard1 doubt. people react to these because they know 'new' star wars movies have come out and they want to watch them all to make sure they see it all. most fans i have known my life have tailed off in the sequel trilogy and d+ shows. same with the marvel fandom. the movies and D+ shows have mostly been tanking. a couple decent successes don't make it all right. at best, 'new' SW has newer, younger fans. at worst, it lost the older fans who wanted to spend money on the products. no one has bought star wars toys in like 5+ years. if the sequels were a true success they would have made more or equal money to the last one; they all made less than the prior, iirc.

But just because some fans can look past flaws and still enjoy the product doesn't mean they can't be critical. And just because there are things someone doesn't like doesn't mean Disney is disrespecting SW and doesn't know how to put the right people on the job. The vast majority of criticism I see from haters is about SW being woke, and I'm seeing some pretty toxic stuff coming from that side. Not cool.

Rey overcame Kylo because he was injured and he was still losing blood. Any other time an untrained Force user isn't going to get the upper hand on someone who has years of Force training. I don't mind the sequels like a lot of people do, but the next episode is, well you'll see. Its the weakest of the 3 sequels

Ben is erratic with his control of the Force. He is obviously conflicted and is battling the influence of the Good Side. At times he looks invincible, and other times he is a basket case. Getting shot in the side with a blaster didn't help!

You've responded exactly the way the tens of millions of fans that flocked to theaters in 2015, with laughs, happiness and eager hunger for more This was a mega-event when it released because this was the first star wars movie to come in 10 long years and 3 since Disney bought the rights But fair warning: in the months that followed, theories about several elements took shape from the Fandom and suffice to say, everything blew up in their faces and all of those fans who theorized for the next movie grew to be... unenthused Please don't go down the same path That's all I'll say You'll need to keep watching to know what I mean This isnt quite like the other two trilogies This one is more... unique, unorthodox... but I still love it I hope you do too

Ryl, I don't normally have occasion to say this to you, but I think you're way off the mark, regarding the relationship between Rey and Luke. Remember, in the prequel trilogy, Anakin defied Jedi tradition and Jedi norms by having a family, but that's how Luke and Leia came along. And because Luke and Leia are each descended from Anakin and Anakin is strong with the Force, Luke and Leia are each strong with the force. It's not the norm for a Jedi to have a family, because families typically evoke a lot of strong feelings, the like of which are not conducive to truly effective use of the Force; truly effective life as a Jedi. Luke is devoted to the life of a Jedi; devoted a _whole_ lot more than his father was. That would make it _quite_ unlikely that he would have a family; quite unlikely he would have a lover; quite unlikely he would've had any kids at all. It doesn't rule the possibility out, but the odds are a lot lower than you seem inclined to suspect. Now remember that Luke is from a desert planet called Tattooine. Rey is from a _different_ desert planet called Jakku. This lowers the odds even _further._
