I'll NEVER forget this movie. It was one of those one and dones simply because of how emotional I get from the realism of the situation. As a black woman / person we go through this EVERYDAY. It's so tragic.

When I was about 12 years old my mom sister and brother in law got into a really bad fight with our upstairs neighbor and long story short someone called the cops and a few minutes later I was surrounded by police officers with big ass guns pointed at me again I was 12 and absolutely nothing to do with the situation I was doing homework in my room watching my nephew during the whole ordeal and minutes later after busting up in our room guns aimed at me they put me in hand cuffs and asked me why i didn't open the door I said I didn't hear anybody knocking I was in tears and they put me in the back of a cop car a few minutes later a cop pulled me out the car and said Im sorry Mrs barton and kept me in cuffs and had me detained again I was 12 and I have never been in trouble with the law clean record still till this day I'm 24 now with 3 kids and I don't even have a speeding ticket

If you’re into reading there’s a prequel book called Concrete Rose and it follows Maverick (star’s dad) when he was 16/17 being a teen dad with seven and his love story with Star’s mom. It also explores the relationship with him and King. 10/10 highly recommend!!!

I remember when I first watched this movie back in 2019 Star crying when she walked up to Khalil's casket at his funeral had me in tears. Seeing Khalil in that casket was heartbreaking. I hate the way that officer was talking about Star to Khalil. And the racist officer pissed me off when he told Star to be quiet when she was crying as she was sitting against Khalil's car watching him die in front of her. The hate you give is a great movie. And I respect that Star stood for doing what she felt was right. And I agree and respect what you said about Fakeyonce 😂 🤭 🤣 😭 👏🏻

Sir, you're interpreting a lot of this movie assuming that similar behaviour stems from the same place. The instinct to shoot immediately is stupid yes, but it's not just that. Several choices are made subconsciously before a cop pulls the trigger, beginning with perception of the situation. The instinct to perceive a black person's movements as a threat is rooted in holding racist ideas about black people. People call them monsters because that kind of stupidity (poor gun safety) generally doesn't occur when you're licensed for a firearm as part of your job. That's why people bring up that it rarely happens to white people when they fail to comply - they weren't just being stupid, they were being racist. I understand your view stems from knowing you would handle the situation differently, but I urge you to consider that behaviour doesn't happen in a vacuum: you'll see that many cops hold racist views, regardless of how well a black person complies. Cops are not armed civilians, they are authority figures armed to protect the public, therefore they should know how to accurately identify a threat, and not shoot to kill when they feel threatened unless absolutely necessary. It happens disproportionately to black people and it's simply not right, that's why people care even if they didn't show love to the victim

I honestly don’t think it’s a crazy take, tbh it’s reality and I think you’re too afraid to accept it. There’s nothing wrong with what he said, bc it’s true. Of course the situation got out hand and was pulled over and shot for no reason but with the knowledge about how many cops racially profile black people the best way is to just obey what they tell u to do because 1 wrong move and you’re done. Yes it’s wrong and not the right way for black people to live but life isn’t a movie where you march and a miracle happens with a happy ending, people actually lose their lives. No matter how hard we fight or protest, racism WILL always exist against black people and all POC and there’s really nothing we can do about it. It’s the harsh reality.

That’s kinda the point of the movie and book, to show examples of code switching, gun violence and so on. And her parents technically put her in the school because she was intelligent and the schools close to home have horrible education and violence. So that’s not her fault or any kid in reality who has been put in “Better schools”. And she really wasn’t pretending I’ve seen worse code switching and you see how the students treat her talking about sneakers and using African American Vernacular, so Star knows she’s black regardless

I understand what you're trying to say I don't really believe that that cop was a racist either from what I saw yeah the guy was black and he did get shot but I don't think he shot him because he was racist he honestly felt bad after he did it but of course like a normal person he didn't want to lose his job. They are taught to shoot if they feel under threat and as a police officer you see a lot of crazy things so for his own protection he assumed the guy was moving to pull out a gun in his instincts told him to shoot that doesn't make him a racist.
