Korra is basically all of us who grew up with "Gifted Kid Syndrome". We were given praise at a very young age for not having done anything yet. We had unrealistically high expectations forced upon us by both ourselves and everyone around us. We were constantly compared to an elder who preceded us (in Korra's case, her literal past life). And when we fail to live up to those expectations, we go through an identity crisis and we have no idea who we even are because we built our entire identity around being the "gifted kid".

Korrasami feels a little tame now, but it’s historically so so relevant, and honestly a giant step for LGBT representation in kids media. I don’t know if you care about reading the comics, but there’s only two full graphic novels for Korra, and Turf Wars (the first one) makes a really good work of exploring both Korrasami as a couple and LGBT themes in the Avatar universe as a whole.

The ending needs more context. When this show premiered, that was huge. An implied romantic relationship between two women was progressive. But now it's 2020. Many people discovering this show for the first time more are disappointed and that's just a sign of how much our society has grown. I watched Korra each week as it premiered and I remember the ending being a big topic of debate on whether or not it was romantic. Now the narrative is "where's the kiss?!" and that makes me happy.

I know everyone holds season 3 of korra as the best season of the show, and rightfully so, and while I’ve never heard anyone say this is an outright bad season, I honestly feel like this season still doesn’t get the credit it deserves, as it has some of the best character development, action, and animation out of the entire show. It also has the most underrated villain of either show. While not nearly as good as season 3, it’s still a great season and is on par with season 1 if not a little better imo.

I think is just because the season 3 was not only great for itself but was also a bit nostalgic with the Team Avatar traveling and all that, and the final battle is just so great, in my opinion only lost to Aang vs Ozai and The Last Agni Kai. And I like to talk about season 4 as more like a premium epilogue, honestly, the way they finish s3 they didn't need to make a s4 but still, they need to make a s4. S4 was like the season we wanted and deserved. And yes, it was great.

Knight Heaven If you paid more attention throughout the last two seasons you would’ve seen the bond Korra and Asami had and the fact that Korra only stayed in communication with Asami, the subtle blushing from Korra in the restaurant scene, there’s subtle hints and in reality they couldn’t have done more because of how things were back then when the show was being made. They did enough and have continued to show how Korra and Asami’s relationship has developed in the comics. It’s the little details, it doesn’t have to be an entire storyline to show their attraction which is what Korra previously focused way too much on with love triangles. It wasn’t a surprise, it was always there even from how they got along in the first season when they liked the same guy.

Sokka seemed to have potential once he grew up a little more but he grew up without a mother and with hardly a father. Leaves Zuko who clearly has a level of maturity only Katara has in the original gang, who had great and bad examples of parents and humans and who has shown he can choose to follow the great ones and break the cycle of violence so honestly ... Not surprised.
@squares4u3 жыл бұрын
@@alinac5512 I completely disagree. Katara had too much respect for herself and for women in general to become a trophy wife. I think she and Aang had a very complicated relationship since they started “dating” so young, but that they ended up having a truly stable and healthy relationship. Because Aang was the Avatar and the last airbender in the world, he felt a responsibility to pass the Air Nomad’s teachings on… but Tenzin was the only one who had airbending abilities, so his parenting suffered greatly when it came to Bumi and Kya (and why they resent him on some level). While Book 3 is the overall best season of Korra Season 4 is honestly the more iconic and most influential season of Avatar Period. From its ending to Korra's trauma being fully explored in a realistic way (both of which kids shows before it had never really done) has had a notable impact on Western Animation and the impact of this season is still being felt to this day. Korra not only changed her world but our as well and, to be blunt, she helped to make it just a little bit better. Korra's series may not have been as strong as Aang's in terms of writing but it still a great series and one that will likely be seen as one of the most important in Pop-Culture.

@Mr Simple It is not as popular as the last air bender. You can look up at netflix numbers if you wish. Korra deserves a lot of its criticism imo. You cant hide, behind the flourishing of the themes, or the pretense of adult themes. Air bender had those as well, the big difference, the story is more meaningful overall. As is the relation between characters, and their respective development. That is what connects with people. The humanity of its characters. The themes, are just interesting, or intriguing. But if you fail to connect on a human level, then you fail in storytelling. The grieving of losing a child, is as adult as it gets, the conflict between who you should be, and what people want you to be is as adult as it gets. the ever ongoing struggle to define who we are, and finding our selves, is as adult as it gets. In many ways i find air bender much more adult then korra. About LGBT representation, i have to ask what representation are you talking about? Asami, and Korra? it feels nothing more then token lesbian couple. That they didn't even bother to portray. Why? because they didn't develop the characters, or the relationship enough for us to feel otherwise. imo.

I believe in the theory that Korra is actually Zuko's spiritual successor(remember how he is also the descendant of an Avatar with Roku). The way they had misguided principles of who they are or where meant to be in the beginning of each series. That is why imo Korra's character arc rivals that of Zuko's, with the way it was portrayed her perseverance throughout, building herself back up and growth in her approach in season 4 LoK. Being similar to the way Zuko in season 2 ATLA began to understand the worldview from the opposite side of the spectrum and come to terms with who he is and eventually guides him towards what is right. Side note: Remembrances episode was done due to budget slashing; they reused clips from prior episodes to ensure no one was fired. If the budget hadn't been slashed. Yangchen definitely told him to have human attachments to be Avatar but it was so he could make a decision of killing Ozai; Aang already has a deep sense of spirituality and humanity in him thats why being the Avatar was so hard for him. Korra on the other hand she knew she was the Avatar since she was a child she saw herself as nothing more then that, like in Season 2 when she lost Raava, she learned from Tenzin she is more than the Avatar; that Korra is not just “The Avatar” and losing her abilities doesn’t make her any less of value. Knowing Toph's upbringing and her and her daughter's similarties, I think their interactions work. Toph doesn't exactly have the same personality as when she was 12, I think she's more mature about it.

Fun fact, the episode where they reflect on everything that happened was meant to be a kuvira backstory but Nickelodeon completely cut the budget

"*Doesn't see Korrasami kissing.* "I'm mad now. I need more of that."" Check out the ATLA/TLOK comics, then! "The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars 1/3" in particular has the end-of-series-smooching you seek.

Im an outlier, enjoying Spirit most as a book in Korra. That being said, even though 4 is my least favourite, I had a helluva lot of fun with this season, and that's something to say with every Avatar experience! Just goes to show how amazing the Avatar universe is!

I was happy and sad because I know this would be the finally book of the Korra series. But I’m happy you enjoyed the franchise in general and I’m also happy I found you’re KZbin channel. You’re reactions and comments are the best honestly. I hope they make more avatar series in the future. You asked for suggestions for more movies or tv series so you could give Outer Banks on Netflix a shot.
@GildedBeetles3 жыл бұрын
All I want to say is, when toph said "if that's what makes you happy" it was clearer to me that she didn't want to say that, but she didn't want to be like her parents

you should definitely check out the comics, there’s only two right now and you can find both of them here on yt, just search up korra comics ( the order is turf wars then ruins of the empire )

well, now I'm have to watch your books 1-3 again before this one comes on, oh nooo 😂 congrats on the journey, Steph! 🙌💐🍻 glad you enjoyed this show. so I'm gonna recommend Attack on Titan & FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood, as they are the GOATs of anime 🐐🔥
@jonathanjohnson67274 жыл бұрын
Your title is how everyone in the Avatar verse fandom feels after watching these series. Which is why many rewatch time and time again. I'm hopeful of more stories of future and past Avatars having their stories told(If I remember correctly the creators said they have some ideas for more).

I really enjoyed all four of your LOK reactions, and I appreciate your positivity towards the show: all you do is watch and react, and I cannot get enough of it! It's great to have someone in the fandom who doesn't watch a show to nitpick it but instead has a genuine and fun reaction!

Toph is my fave character but it goes to show that if a character doesn’t have a whole lot of development & growth (ahem Aang) they tend to not be the greatest characters later on. They are still awesome, but their lack of character growth took a realistic turn.

We love seeing some Korra love!! It's a very underrated show and I'm glad you appreciated it. I found your channel, like you said, due to ATLA and LOK reactions, but I would love to see more from you. You are really funny!.. Have you ever watched some anime? If not, you should try Attack on Titan (series) or Your Name (movie). These are two of my favorites.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I love TLoK and it's great to see people exploring it for the first time. 4 was always my favorite book mostly for seeing Korra struggle so much in a very realistic way. For suggestions, I would say the newer She Ra or I don't know if you've seen Steven Universe (There are a LOT of eps for SU but each ep is like 11 mins long and they have a movie). I think it's funny how many people will tell you korrasami wasn't explored more because "nickelodeon was homophobic." That couldn't be further from the truth. The writers admitted that while they personally shipped Korrasami from the first book, it never occurred to them that Nickelodeon would approve of it so they didn't even ask until they were developing the finale. Like, they had already written the finale before they decided they didn't want to end the show without at least trying to make it canon. Nickelodeon let them do it, but set limitations because this was 2014 and no other American cartoon aimed at children had a queer couple. So the writers altered the last scene to have Korra and Asami turn to each other holding both hands, and had the music changed to a more romantic tune and the rest is history. These days there are many more viewing options, but none of them would exist without Korrasami ending with what now seems like a simple handhold. A lot of creators specifically thank TLoK for opening the door.

The smallest of hints were given about Korrasami this season. Korra kept writing Asami letters and felt she could be open with her. Before the dinner scene Asami complements Korra's hair and Korra blushes. Nickalodeon would not let them kiss. This was the first ever open lesbian couple in a kids cartoon ever and opened a lot of door for the shows we have today.

the reason the recap episode was the way it was is because nickelodeon suddenly cut their budget, so they had to reuse footage so the finale would still be what they imagined for it. they probably would’ve done something akin to an ember island players episode, but they physically weren’t able to
@lincolneyar82694 жыл бұрын
It's called *seismic sense.* If there's one thing I would say, this show has been riddled with production woes which really affected the writing of the story. Even they didn't want Korra to be a girl. But still, it turned out good. I would have love more episodes (20 episodes/season like ATLA) which would have helped (and even solve) the pacing and the development of other characters but it is what it is. I wish people would stop hating it.

Hahaha. I was waiting for this. And if you want to know more of Korra, there are two or three comics more. I think are two. One in Republic City, immediately, and one second where Korra and Kuvira works together. Oh, one more thing, the vacations of Korra and Asami to the Spirit World... aren't vacations completly. If you know catch what I mean (wink, wink). Well, I watched all of your Avatar Series videos, and I enjoyed all of them. See you later, and nice reaction. Pd. Forgive my bad English, I'm a begginer.
