Same. I feel like this show’s target audience was American adults in their 40’s. I grew up watching Brady Bunch reruns after school, as well as I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, and Bewitched on Nick at Nite with my parents. I experienced the 80s and 90s shows to be referenced in real time. I got pretty much every major reference without having to have it pointed out. It was such a smartly-written and conceived show. A lot of the early episodes get lost on younger viewers, or those from other countries. Not that such is their fault or anything; it just is what it is. Still an enjoyable show (as displayed here by Mary), but a lot of the nuance and Easter eggs aren’t noticed.

The changes in the house, the clothes, hair, and the shooting style are because the show is moving through time. The first episode was the 50s, then 60s, then 70s and so on. At this point in the Marvel timeline you also have to remember that Vision is dead.

The scene where the two beds slide together is a nod to the transition from the early days of American sitcoms when married couples had to be portrayed as sleeping in separate beds to the later days when they could be shown as sleeping in the same beds. This whole series is a nod to a variety of different sitcoms from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s …. The opening cartoon at 9:08 is specifically a reference to the opening of BEWITCHED, which was about a female witch married to an ordinary man and living in the suburbs. (And there are several scenes where Wanda is essentially doing an imitation of Elizabeth Montgomery, the star of that show; she really nails the voice!) But the series also references I LOVE LUCY, THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW, THE BRADY BUNCH, and many more. A “Danish” is (a pale American imitation of) the pastry known in Denmark as a Spandauer and elsewhere as Wienerbrod (among other names). If you like shows with TRUMAN SHOW vibes, you should watch WAYWARD PINES, a clever/spooky series that ran for two seasons in 2015-2016. For future Marvel movies and shows, the release order is fine, even though they switched it around a bit owing to Covid; the shows that were switched around don’t impact each other's storylines that much. For future NON-Marvel movies, I really hope you watch DUNE (the new one). (If you like it you can then watch the 1984 DUNE movie and two 2000-2003 DUNE miniseries for comparison.) DUNE is (kind of) like a cross between STAR WARS and GAME OF THRONES (except that the original DUNE books were a major influence on STAR WARS and GAME OF THRONES rather than the other way around).

The house changes because each episode is based on a different era/series of sitcom. Which is also why it moved from black and white into colour. The first was based on the Dick van Dyke Show (50s), the second on Bewitched/I Dream of Jeannie (60s), and the third on The Brady Bunch (70s). Lots of other references to other shows in each of them, but that's where they're getting their broadest strokes from.
@mikell50873 жыл бұрын
You are right about the episodes and the sitcoms they are based on. But you and others keep saying that the first episode is based on/in the 50's, but The Dick Van Dyke show was in the early 1960's and the house in the episode is almost an exact replica of the set used on that show. The second episode's credits are clearly based on the Bewitched credit sequence and the house is very similar to the set of that show. The third episode's set does deviate from The Brady Bunch house set, but you can tell by the stairs it is based on that, and even the backyard in the credits (when he works on the swing set) looks like The Brady Bunch backyard. But its the 60's in the first episode.

Hey, Marijchu! Here's helpful info on Episode 1: The sitcom being parodied was "The Dick van Dyke Show". Even though the program debuted in 1961, the sensibility was similar to 1950s sitcoms. Dick van Dyke himself consulted on the set design and gags like tripping over the ottoman which Vision phases through instead. He also played the ukulele like Bettany does to entertain his guests. This was the only episode to be filmed before a LIVE STUDIO AUDIENCE! The comic stories being adapted here are "The Vision and the Scarlet Witch" suburban domesticity series and "Visionquest" and "Darker Than Scarlet" from "West Coast Avengers". In "The Vision and the Scarlet Witch" series, the duo take a sabbatical from the Avengers and live as a suburban couple. SWORD is SHIELD's space division monitoring extraterrestrial threats. The acronym means Sentient Worlds Observation and Response Department. The logo is on the journal and the monitor in the last image of the episode. The organization was introduced into the MCU during the end-credit scene of "Spider-Man: Far From Home". There was one instance of COLOR! The blinking red light on the Stark toaster! Pay close attention to the commercials. They're representational snapshots of Wanda's life! In a meta gag, Mrs. Hart is played by Debra Jo Rupp from "That '70'sShow" where she portrayed Kitty! Kathryn Hahn's Agnes was heavily speculated to be Agatha Harkness by anyone who has ever picked up a comic. Most commonly associated with the Fantastic Four and Doctor Strange, she has a significant relationship with Wanda but I will refrain from divulging any more in case you've never heard of her. Hey, Marijchu! Here's helpful info on Episode 2: The sitcom being parodied was "Bewitched" and they even ape the animated intro! It was a black-and-white sitcom that was colorized partway through its run which is what happens in this transitional episode. Standards and Practices forbade a wedded couple from being depicted sharing the same bed. It was considered scandalous! Lucille Ball bucked the trend on "I Love Lucy" by pushing two double beds together but a single bed scenario wasn't shown until "The Brady Bunch"! The Mind Stone was painted on the Cabinet of Mysteries! Pay attention to the commercials! The Hydra logo was on the Baron Strucker watch. Baron Wolfgang von Strucker was the Hydra Commander who oversaw the experiments on Wanda and Pietro. I initially thought the SWORD helicopter was trying to penetrate or disable the psychic bubble with ordnance accounting for the loud THUMPS but was rendered as harmless as a toy upon entering the TV reality. What actually happened was a little different. I wonder what Agnes means that Dottie is the key to everything? Is it more than the social hierarchy of Westview? Why is her blood in color? Notice the purpose of the garden party and talent show is "FOR THE CHLDREN" and Wanda ends the episode pregnant! That schlub who's a look-a-like for David Schwimmer kills me! I loved drunk Vision! Elizabeth Olsen made a very fetching assistant. The beekeeper had a SWORD logo on his suit. Hey, Marijchu! Here's some helpful info on Episode 3: We finally take a flying leap out of the bubble this week! Crazy theory: Is Herb the High Evolutionary? The real name of the 1930s geneticist who conducted Moreau-like experiments at Wundagore Mountain is HERBERT EDGAR WYNDHAM! Wanda and Pietro were not raised by Magneto in the comics. Magneto's real name is Max Eisenhardt and he met his wife Magda at Auschwitz. His first mutant outburst occurred when he was prevented from rescuing his daughter from a house fire and he lashed out violently. Pregnant Magda was terrified and fled from Magneto. She gave birth to the twins while under the care of the High Evolutionary at Wundagore. She deserted the babies and the Evolutionary placed them with a childless Gypsy family called the Maximoffs. Is Herb the neighbor just an Easter Egg, a coincidence or something more? The sitcom being parodied this week is "The Brady Bunch". The Schwimmer look-a-like, Phil, married to Dottie the harridan is my favorite sad sack in Westview. Herb was glitching big-time and was unconsciously trying to hack through the set to escape! Vision is accurately referred to as a SYNTHEZOID since he has both inorganic electronic and mechanical components as well as synthetic organic components! Doctor Helen Cho's synthetic skin was one such component shown in "Age of Ultron". Second Hydra reference in a commercial and this one directly related to "Agents of SHIELD"! Agnes sure didn't like not being the primary stage manager in Wanda's affairs. Fear over Wanda losing control or frustration at not being able to direct a desired outcome? Glitching Wanda was like a scene from "Poltergeist"! Loved her breaking water deluge! Why was the stork impervious to her hexes? The harbinger of the twins outclassed Wanda's power and his arrival was even ominous... Tommy Shepherd aka Speed and Billy Kaplan aka Wiccan have been born! Mentioning Pietro brings the Sokovian lilt to Wanda's voice! Could there be an Aaron Taylor-Johnson cameo in the works? Geraldine's pendant is the SWORD logo. She's an agent. She gets too close to the truth and is hurled out of Wanda's Westview bubble into the SWORD encampment! The aspect ratio becomes widescreen! Will they stay in the '70's next week or move on to the '80's and "Family Ties"? If you'd like to learn more about Vision and Scarlet Witch's complex comic history either before the series is finished or after it's over, I strongly encourage you to check out KZbinr James Hancock's primer on his channel "Geekin' with James Hancock". Hancock knows his stuff and the showrunners obviously did their homework! youtu.be/watch?v=cGLers804kw

All the shows have been fantastic imo. The acting, especially their period style acting is absolutely fantastic. It is just like watching a show from the period they are Imitating. WandaVision is such a delight with challenging expectations and its originality. Some background the 1st episode was filmed pre-covid and used an actual live studio audience. They used the real film cameras from the era's the each episode was imitating to keep the visuals as real to the period as possible. So for the black and white episodes they had to design the set colors to work for black and white ( you can't just use any colors). I think many of us watching were all excited and trying to theorize from the little clues they dropped each episode. It was really fun. If you loved Debra Jo Rupp (the boss's wife) in this, you would absolutely love the comedy serial "That 70s Show". After this the order is Black Widow, Falcon and Winter Solider, then Loki, Shang Chi, What If?, Eternals. Black Widow got bumped it actually released AFTER Falcon but its order is supposed to be before. But it isn't actually a huge deal if watched out of order.

I think the Dr's name in Episode 3 - Dr Neilsen - is a small Easter egg reference to the Nielsen ratings, for many years the metric in America that recorded how many people watched television. The Nielsen ratings were very important to networks, telling them what shows were popular - or not - and also consequently very important to advertisers and ad revenue. So it makes sense that there's at least one Nielsen Easter egg in this series... ;-)

As for watch order... You can stick to chronological release order. The shows all take place after the Phase 3 movies, and don't affect each other (yet), so don't have to be watched in order. The only major continuity issue related to release delays affects The Falcon and the Winter Soldier show and the Black Widow movie (a character that was supposed to appear in the movie first appeared in the show first because the movie was supposed to be released before the show).

Danish in this context is "Danish pastry," which in Danish is Viennese bread (wienerbrød, according to Wikipedia), so... everyone apparently thinks it comes from elsewhere?

Welcome back to the MCU, Mari! Phase 4 has been a doozy so far, but you're going to have fun with the movies and Disney+ shows. In order for you: WandaVision Falcon and the Winter Soldier Black Widow Loki What If?..... Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (coming to Disney+ on November 12) Eternals (coming to theaters this Friday) Hawkeye (coming to Disney+ on November 24) Spider-Man: No Way Home (coming to theaters December 17) Have fun in the rest of 2021! 2022 is going to be even crazier!

Doing three at a time for this show is perfect IMO!! So glad you're enjoying it as much as so many of us have! You probably figured this out already, but each episode ostensibly takes place within a particular decade of television. And the first one was actually filmed in front of a live audience! 😱😃👏 Oh, and in case it wasn't mentioned elsewhere, a _"danish"_ is essentially a shortened term for _"Danish Pastry."_ Nom, nom, nom!
