My dad was one of the producers of 'Brandy' by Looking Glass, and I grew up looking at his gold record, framed and hanging in our living room. Earlier this past decade, we had a major falling out, and ended up not speaking to one another for nearly four years. The lost time was among the worst mistakes of my life. We finally made up, and I took a trip out to visit him in fall of 2017, shortly after Guardians 2 had been released. I asked him if he had seen it and said, no, but was puzzled as to why all of his old music buddies had asked him the same? Getting to show my dad this movie after such a long rift was one of the happiest moments I can remember, and I'm not even that much of a Marvel guy.

That moment, everyone who reacts to this movie always reacts to that line the same way. When I saw this with other people, every single one gasped when they heard that, even many of the kids who were there. It's such a gutpunch, and the whole setup and slow buildup is some of the best writing of any movie, ever.

- Hey, don't want to debase myself because I really love the MCU and remember lot of Super Heros from childhood, however, I am not one of the "Knows every little thing about MCU" kind of guys (unfortunately) so I have a question maybe you can help. @@Arthaius Tmk, Ego wasn't the last one. (Don't recall if any line in the film implies otherwise.) Iir, there are multiple Celestials in the comics. Much of this lore changes and varies since the MCU draws on elements and aspects of the comics as source material inspiration but not always directly. But yes, Ego being the last remaining Celestial does sound unsatisfying, doesn't it? =)

@@gluuuuue - I remember reading some (minimal) Marvel history, and apparently "Adam" (The being created by the shiny Golden lady Peter was trying to get with, lol), is connected to some extremely significant Power, like on a scale that makes Thanos a second stringer level of power, Don't remember all the details, but I'm assuming from his teaser introduction that we will be seeing "Adam" sooner or later, and I believe that he is actually called "Adam Warlock" but don't quote me, I may have mixed up some details as I was also reading up on "Black Adam" because I'm super excited to see that, as he is apparently the literally mirror Nemesis of "Shazam" - a little foggy on the details, he seems to be a good guy who turned bad through some manipulative woman, then rejects it and becomes good again, and honestly, if we end up getting to see Shazam AND Black Adam (played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), that would be Frickin' awesome ... only I didn't mean Fricken'

3:30 what makes the music even better is that they’re part of the story. Most movies write the script and then get song rights but James Gunn wrote the script with a list of ‘Merideth Quill songs’ in mind. This makes the music an expression of the characters, and it especially works when Ego uses Brandy to manipulate Peter.

I still love how they did Nebula in this movie and her redemption. She never really hated Gamora, just how competitive she was. Every loss Thanos mutilated her and made her into a cyborg to "perfect" her. The only thing she wanted was for her sister to let her win one time so she could be spared. The one time she finally beats Gamora, she lays out how desperately she just wanted her sister to love her. That hug at the end is just *chef's kiss*

The intro of this movie was probably my favorite part. After all these movies where the high intensity action always seem to be front and center, suddenly it is the background. Baby Groot takes priority! We can kinda see that action... but we really don't care. I just love how that whole intro was directed. I was a 34 year old grown man when I saw this movie in the theater in 2017 and I bawled my eyes out at that ending I still do. It's my favorite MCU movie and holds a special place in my heart because it was also my mom's favorite. I lost her to cancer in 2019 so every time I watch this film or Thor Ragnorok I make me smile thinking of my mom and how we didn't have much in common but we bonded over the MCU films.

The Quill vs Ego fight scene is impactful because it resembles some of the best power-up scenes from anime. The music fading in, the flashback scenes, the energy buildup, and the dialogue worked really well together.

The ‘Adam’ reference in the post-credits scene is a hint at another famous character from the comics the director was teasing fans as might be coming in future movies. The aliens Stan Lee was talking to partway and at the end are other characters from the Marvel universe, the Watchers, a race that is supposed to observe the events across the Marvel multiverse without interfering, including in other universes where events unfold differently.

In the comics during the 90's, the Guardians encountered Taserface as a scout for an alien race called... The Stark. It was an alternate timeline for the Guardians from the main Marvel titles. The War of the Worlds happened in the 20th Century and the Martians killed nearly all of Earth's heroes. Tony Stark decided that his technology could not be allowed to fall into the hands of the invaders. He put everything into a rocket and fired it into space on a trajectory meant to drop it into a star far from Earth. The rocket went off course and landed on a world with developing species. The rocket was explored and Stark was made their god. The species adapted their society to learning the secrets of Stark technology, including cybernetic enhancements. By the 30th Century, the homeworld of the Stark had been ecologically ruined. The race set out to conquer new worlds to exploit for resources and glory. After Taserface was defeated, he lost rights to any identity, until he was augmented into Overkill. Instead of a scout, he was now an Assault grade trooper.
