She fought the entire government and the system for justice for many people, convincing many people to join her and fight against to government and its oppression, she lived a tough life and was poor. She learned how to fight from her friends and she uses her intellect very efficiently. Black widow was trained to be an assassin which is less impressive than learning incredible skills by herself whilst in a terrible government then later over throwing said government. I respect your opinion on Black widow being better though

@@samarahbutler2537 yeah that's badass but katniss is a beacon of hope, she fought against the capitol, and after 75 years of panem suffering they finally found the strength to fight within katniss, their mockingjay and when the time came when she finally had the chance to kill snow, she took the chance to killed coin instead because she knew that coin's way of ruling is just the same as snow's, she didn't let her ego to kill snow get in the way to do what's right for everyone, she was about to take a nightlock pill (suicide pill) after she killed coin because she knew the consequences but she was stopped, it shows that she was ready to kill herself for panem's future and that i think is way more badass

Rhys Davies agree... especially since in a new hope a lot of people at first were expecting a cliche damsel in distress princess rescue, but she practically is the one who took charge and rescued the gang off the death star, and then in Jedi, is the one who goes to rescue her man. Her character could have been an annoying screaming scared princess but was instead pretty bad ass.

People who don't like the Resident Evil movies are fans of the games. Ignoring the video game series the Resident Evil movies are actually good (kind of cheesy like every action movie but fun). And Resident Evil did do something for cinemas. The last zombie movie was in the 80s, Day Of The Dead. Then Resident Evil came out and brought back the zombie craze. Thanks to Resident Evil, whether you love it or hate it, it's the reason we have zombie movies, comics, video games, and TV shows. #GiveItCredit

Ripley is the original. She started it all. Before her, females (for the most part) were secondary characters next to male protagonists in film. They were there either crying to be saved, for T and A, or both. Example; Almost every ol' school Bond girl. Thanks to Ripely's badassary in the Alien franchise, audiences could now appreciate and were much more accepting of a heroic/badass female lead to save the day. This opened the door for all the other badasses on this list to shine. Without Ripley who knows how long it would have taken cinema to let females become badasses on film? 'Nuff said.

Haywire, character Mallory played by Gina Carano, one of the best action movies and Mallory is by far one of the most badass female characters I've seen. There is a hallway fight scene that is incredible.

I don't see why Sarah Connors did not make number 2 on this list. Her character was great and had a 3d personally which made her realistic and a great character. So many character in the badass or independent, and tuff person role have a 2d personality both guy and woman. And more and more lately they are starting to come off as really jackass. Both Sarah and Ripply are the best 3d characters I have ever since.

She nags and cries a lot (which in her position I probably also would do, that her best friend is captured and people are being killed and all that). But relateable or not, i don't think she is badass enough to be on the list, especially not since Eowyn isn't on it, while she killed the witchking in lotr. way more badass in my opinion. azrael80304 Ripley crafted the blue print for the bad ass female roles after her. Sarah Connor is a power house too, but let's made a little comparison between those two: Ripley fought with the most dangerous aliens ever in the entire cinematic universe, had a freaking embryo in her chest, sacrificed her life to save others, reborn as a half alien/ half human clone and killed more aliens. Connor on the other hand was a simple girl, running in fear the entire first movie, while in the second one - like you said- ''doing pull ups and getting mad diesel''. Yes, she had few truly bad ass scenes in Judgement Day, but she's not a #1 material for that top.

Ellen Ripley is such a bad ass because she's so believable, she doesn't have super human powers or unnatural strength and speed, she's just a natural born leader and warrior and was minding her own business when circumstances forced it to the surface. If you count scientists in the geek/nerd category, one of the scariest examples is in a novel by the late Frank Herbert called, "The White Plague". The main character, a biochemist or microbiologist or something like that, is visiting Ireland, and he sees his wife and kids killed in a bombing. He goes a little crazy from the grief and cooks up a plague that kills only women and kills 9,999 out of 10,000 of them. He didn't really intend for it to spread beyond Ireland...
