You nailed it again!! Totally agree with you. It’s really stupid to keep following those celebrities or influencers what they use/wear, when we are not even them or living their lifestyle. I can’t imagine myself running after a bus/train with a Birkin or Mini LD in my hands🤣

This is the first time I comment on your videos and wanted to thank you so much for this topic. It is exhausting to keep loving fashion luxury, but refusing to follow the game of buying into those iconic bags for those crazy prices now. It is not fun anymore like it used to. Although I have the money, I refuse to be taken advantage of by those brands. I am exploring other brands, until the likes of Chanel and Dior come to their senses (which I hardly doubt). I've just been to one of Aspinal of London, and their customer service was 5 stars. I wish LV or Chanel would treat us like that in their boutiques. I felt so good while I was shopping there and treated like a valuable customer, but at the same time I was disappointed thinking why we have allowed the top luxury brands to treat us like garbage
@eatmyoctopus

Probably because people let them. By not saying anything or lodging a complaint about their service, it says ‘I allow you to treat me like this’.

Although I am currently at purse peace and with any bags I have, I’m keeping to pass on to my 2 girls; I have to agree. It’s no longer fun. The price hikes and declining quality will put me off for a long time, hence the peace. A lot of it lately also seems to cheapen the brand and their image. I’ll gladly keep my coin than let these fashion houses think they can pull one over us.

I feel that fomo is stopping with age 🤪… hear me out… when we are young we think that we need it to make us happy but when you grow up you realize you are you and you don’t need to believe everything you see on tv/ ads I still love luxury items but I’m a realistic I buy what I can afford and save money for for the big ones when I want them .. if I still want it after few months I get it , most of the time it’s just fade away ❤

I noticed it's often connected to an emotion like mindless snacking. Specific emotions can cause food cravings, like anger = salty crunchy food and lonely = sweet fatty rich food. When I hate how I look, anger = urge to buy clothes to improve body. When I feel lonely, urge to buy accessories like a peacock.

The best item lately is a bespoke item. To me that’s becoming the ultimate luxury. To design and create what you want. I don’t have Fomo. The prices have killed that. Plus I have a nice decent collection. You can’t possibly wear everything. I have so many shoes and bags my husband nicknamed me Amelda Marcos 😂😂😂😂. And honestly as much as I try to rotate my bags and shoes, I could go 5 days wearing the same bag and shoes. Or it would take me a month to wear one bag or shoes again

I really needed this this video in my life today Dacob! Especially with Black Friday coming up. This was one of my favorite videos of yours but I enjoy all of your videos. I have fallen in love with Chanel makeup and fragrance but I don't own any of their bags because they cost thousands and I now I realize I also don't need them in my life...they don't fit my lifestyle. I also don't need the LD bag. They are beautiful to look at but to me they are like museum pieces and not every day bags. Happy Thanksgiving Dacob!!

i’m not like any of those influencers or posers who bought Chanel or Hermes or LV, Gucci, YSL, Baleciaga, BB etc only because it was seen with “famous” personality… I really like to own it because i like how i look when i hold any of it ☺️ Yes, it was seen first and was regarded as their iconic bag… but i think i am different… Instead i love my Chanel bag because of how it was made… the secret behind the pocket in which Coco left the little note of Leboy… things like this makes me feel connected to the bag itself… I love the LV monogram because of the four leaf clover style and it gives me fortune 🔮… i am very superstitious… i love how Dior followed the tarot and the constellations in their past design… this is who i am as a client… i followed them for my own reasons :-)

I’ve never loved the idea of being a FAN or a FOLLOWER. I’m a leading lady :) Always been, always will be, in the edge of being ferocious about my freedom and my decision… But also storytime reg. how luxe brands treat you. I recently accompanied a friend to a luxury shop and as she was granted entrance, the door boy ignored me fully. “Are you going to tie me on the outside?”, I deadpanned. “OMG are you with her?” Well aren’t YOU supposed to be attentive? I thought and I cackled but I also made a mental note to not let a THING seduce me into even trying it on in said shop.

Dacob….this is such a great topic! I had to ask myself do I really want a Birken or is it FOMO. I had to ask myself this question as I was deciding on my next collection bag…..I am really more of a cross body person and The Kelly I am over it…tired of the square bag with top handle and cross body…so I decided not to buy either cause I felt I was being influenced. 2 years ago I wasn’t even thinking about a Birken. I did get over the Classic Flap after my sister plunked down $8,700 and called me to hurry and get one before the price increase….and I thought….i ain’t spending $8-10k on a handbag. That is two business class tickets to Europe or Japan. SO I went to Japan and flew Business class and although I was tempted to purchase a pre-love Hermes I decided against it. I bought two Mini Alexa’s brand new for far less and I am happy with them. And Dacob…when I go to my local luxury mall (Southcoast Plaza in Irvine which is one of the most successful malls in the U.S they do billions in annual sales each year and have every major luxury brand on the planet in the mall sometimes multiple stores as they do so much business) any who when I go I see Classic Flaps like they are coach bags and 90% of these ladies have zero since of style. It is a joke to me….I agree with you 100% and loath to carry the same bag as everyone else with a couple of exceptions. Yes we need to intentionally ignore what influencers are peddling…If I see it on influencers I automatically do not buy it. When I first saw the Loewe Squezz bag I almost had an orgasm…then 2 weeks later it started …influencers carrying it…etc….I got a bad taste in my mouth. It’s surprising how quickly I was able to move on to just a plain old vintage early 2000 LV canvas. I stay off of Insta and Tik Tok which saves me. I just follow a handful of OG KZbinrs like you. Otherwise I would have FOMO all day long. Better to keep my coins..and look for unique statement clothing….You are so right…and and do my best not to purchase any fast fashion. Everyone is looking the same…no individuality and no real sense of style for 90% of the population. Keep doing you! I enjoy your channel.

I´ve come to the point where I see all the latest luxury goods and all I feel is bored. It´s become so rare, that some item I see online rerally excites me and when one does it´s always a preloved or vintage item, never the latest "hot product". As far as handbags are concerned I feel my collection of simple vintage bags and Dior from the Galliano era is big enough. I do not need more... ...and if the bag itch overcomes me I might simply make myself a new custom bag with my own hands- a project that costs next to nothing and keeps me challenged and entertained for a while.

Hi Dacob! Love this concept of freedom from marketing and consumerism. It would be great if you could do some videos on how to spot quality fashion goods, no matter the brands. There are small brands that do offer a really “luxury” experience and product and it would be interesting to absorb all this knowledge you have on finding good quality . Just an idea 😀 thank you so much for what you are doing. I really admire you and your geeky knowledge on fashion and perfumes. Thanks

Dacob!!! I ALWAYS love your videos but you brought it in this video! There were so many gems here! Many have been trying to gauge the temperature in luxury fashion, more specifically the luxury handbag space. We are hearing it’s boring and things are expensive. Albeit true, most have simply become lazy. The sheep have been led to an oversaturated and overpriced space and can’t see beyond the wool that’s covering their eyes. Let us lead you, they say but the power of marketing (past and present) is dangerous. I do believe that there are a lot of handbag lovers/collectors who genuinely take a liking to some of these “iconic” bags but the vast majority of buyers are operating solely under the guise of FOMO for sure. Thank you for reminding us to think for ours and more importantly, to find who we are and believe in him/her! Applicable far beyond luxury handbags. This is the kind of “influence” we need! Xoxo ~Wil

I haven't been inspired by women's trends for a few years now, and a lot of them aren't flattering for many women. Half my wardrobe is now vintage, in colours and tweeds that I love to wear. I'm tempted to work with a stylist to refine my style and see where I can be more adventurous. Figuring out your best colours and shapes will really help. Kibbe's body types are a good place to start, and there are several style colour systems, my favourite is David Zyla's (Colour Your Style).

There was a department store in London and a French woman was hiring and turned away candidates wearing red lipstick. People were laughing about it like there's something wh0rish about red (the patriotic colour Elizabeth was coronated in!). In England, there's a sexism argument in that but she wanted to be surrounded by pink lipstick women only...? I was the only person in that comment section (years ago) to object, since it wasn't even advertised in the job listing as unsuitable and the shop sells a TON of red lipstick! Possibly more than that ugly grey pink that's so popular! It's a greater talent to keep red from bleeding! I think it was also an age thing. People like that ruin the self-expression part of make-up.

I have realized that the only fomo i get is when my weed guy isn’t answering his phone 😂 All jokes aside, I was the type of person who bought things out of fomo. I realized in 2020 that my closet was full of things I only bought because it was “limited edition”, because “it’s the last bag in Europe” and it didn’t bring me real joy, just hype. Now I limit myself to 2 or 3 items a year and I’ve never been happier. I think about the items a lot before I buy them and that helps me make the best choice. Xx 💕

If you don’t want to be a ”follower”of fashion in handbag- my question is then….do you buy handmade bags from independentfilm small familybusiness? Then you have a more unique style and then you can be a leading Star that starts a trend. I have decided to not support leathergoods from any luxuarybrand. Only buy from small business where they are proud over their work. 1987 i read this Don’t walk in front of me - i don’t want to be lead Don’t walk behind me- i don’t want to lead Go beside me and be my friend. Maybe all luxuary brands should follow that and start all over again and shape themself up!

It all boils down to dancing to the rhythm of one's own drum beat. I think that a lot of folks who seem to be running after items and looks that celebrities have is due to the invention of the internet and the overexposure of fashion items. Being in my sixties and around long enough to have seen a lot of fashion trends come and go, these days things seem to have both gotten out of hand and also quite uncreative with the amount of cookie cutter looks. Just my opinion. I'm one who has always been a chameleon when it comes to fashion and styling my looks, ever since elementary school. And with the majority of my friends, over many decades, they created their own style long ago, but might tweak it every now and then. As for what influencer to follow, the main influencer should be a full-length mirror. Greetings from Los Angeles
