It's worth noting that Nocturna was not originally a vampire and vampirism was in no way part of her early appearances (that would change when her character was rebooted for the New 52). I may be in the minority here, but I'm actually glad that a lot of these lost episodes didn't get made, at least as part of B:TAS. In regards to the DCAU, I always felt that it kind of follows something of the "escalation" idea from Batman Begins in terms of threat level, superpowers, and overt supernatural aspects of DC Comics. Taking TAS on its own, it's only slightly more heightened than Nolan Batman. However around the time Superman jumps onto the scene the universe seems to become a much bigger place and the sky gets to be the limit for what's possible, even in Batman's circle, during TNBA and S:TAS. It then grows even larger yet in Static, Justice League, and JLU, before seeming to shrink a bit in the future of Beyond and Zeta, taking place after the age of heroes. Long story short, a lot of these episodes seem to me that they would have worked much better even in the tone of TNBA (where things are only getting sorta crazy) than TAS. I mean, in TAS, Zatanna is only a slight-of-hand magician, not a real weilder of magic. I get they couldn't have known that they'd have the time they later would have to tell said stories, so they naturally wanted to go for broke with every idea they had. However, as with "Epilogue," I prefer the versions of these stories we'd later get in other shows and movies headed by this team in the future. Nevertheless, a really interesting topic as usual Mattie!

Don't forget Morbius in Spider-Man 94. I appreciate Bruce Timm offering alternatives for Nocturna but WB and Fox Kids got cold feet. Instead of just draining Batman of his "blood", she will drain him of his "plasma" or "energy" kinda like how Morb did. It won't turn him into a vampire but it'll result in him being way too tired to go out as Batman and he'll need an alternative to counter that so stuff like this won't happen again.

As an adult, I really wish that Sandman episode had happened, but as 90s pre-teen, I'd have had _no_ idea what was going on. It would have been way out of tone with anything else on TV at the time. It pains me to say that not running with that idea was the right call, but I kind of wish it had been adapted into a short story in the Sandman comics, now. The first volume leans a little on its DC connections, so it would have been possible. You could even tie Batman's aesthetic into Dream's imprisonment, same as the golden age Sandman being an effort of the universe to fill the void.
@kaijuguy194 жыл бұрын
It would've been cool to see that Catwoman spin off series happen in some manner or another. Especially if she wears that suit which has what I like best from both her BTAS and TNBA designs combined. Perhaps if HBO Max is interested in developing more DC exclusive series for it's services this can be the chance to revive the series at last in at least as a mini series. Heck if there's a DCAU animated movie in the works that's about Catwoman I'd watch it too especially if she wears that suit I've mentioned.

Sandman would probably be "too weird" for BTAS - early seasons it would feel out of place, and later seasons I don't think they would do it justice. But I bet Brave and the Bold could have pulled it off very nicely - Brave and the Bold was "wacky" enough they could have transitioned straight into "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?"
@PosthumanHeresy2 жыл бұрын
I think it would have worked fine with the early tone of BTAS before the "more Robin" mandate. Batman only spends a little bit of time in The Dreaming, and with commercials each episode loses around like 7 minutes. That's enough time for a cold open of Batman being brutalized and going unconscious, him encountering Death and Morpheus up to the first commercial break, and the final part spent on showing him his impact. Leave most of the lore out of it, it's not needed for the story. The important thing is Batman is having a near-death experience, the beings that define reality/unreality and life/death (the line he straddles and the war he wages) for his universe visit him and allow him a chance to choose which of them he is more an agent of, and he chooses Morpheus. You don't even need any of the reality angle, just the "inspiring humanity vs. peace" angle. It's presented in the lore that each of the Endless define their realm and the inverse, and so Morpheus also defines reality. There's plenty to support that in story. So he and Death share an inverse, our realm. That also fits the lore. But Batman as a thing is directly spawned by an act of Death, straddles the real and the unreal, and is a being of the night beyond simply operating there but rather truly mastering it. At the same time, he endlessly fights for life but causes an endless wake of death in doing so because he won't kill. It basically is the same theme as "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?", but from a perspective of "Batman gets offered an out by Death and Dream in what was most definitely a bet when he's being grouchy about humans, Batman refuses to quit".

@josephadorno924 жыл бұрын
It's interesting how Nocturna was only interesting to the team if she was a vampire, so they weren't really going to draw inspiration from the comic book stories featuring her - just the name and design. The film adaptation of "Interview With A Vampire" was really trendy at the time, so that might've influenced Timm's interest in doing that story.

BTAS and TNBA, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond, the terrible JL/JLU, and Static Shock all take place on Earth-12. If that's the alternate universe you like, that's fine. Here's the wiki link for confirmation en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DC_Multiverse_worlds. Some of the episodes discussed here were developed for other series like Batman The Brave and the Bold and certain animated movies like Gods and Monsters and Crisis on Two Earths. Series I'd like to see relaunched or continued are the following: TNBA, Superman TAS, The Batman, Batman The Brave and the Bold, Beware the Batman, Spectacular Spider-man, and Green Lantern TAS. As long as the writers don't relaunch the series or continue a series like the way it was done for Samurai Jack Season 5. I'd also like to see animated series of alternate universes like Superman and Wonder Woman together or where Kara is NOT Superman's cousin and they get together, Spider-man and The Black Cat are together, and Batman and Catwoman are together. In fact, Hal Jordan marries a fellow Green Lantern (a human lady or alien humanoid female preferred) and moves away from Carol Ferris being his love interest. I say this because it's time for these DC and Marvel Superheroes to mature and move forward with new interesting stories as opposed to the "same old stuff". I know DC and Marvel Fans like being basically traditional, but are they? If fans like Earth-12 because of the "Timmverse" from 1992 through 2005, then maybe it's time for another universe to be brought to the big screen with either an animated series or movies. Earlier this year we had Superman Red Son about Earth-30, but I thought the movie was just OK, and making Wonder Woman a lesbian was ridiculous. That wasn't in the original comic's run, but was put in for political correctness. Personally, I'd like to see a movie about Earth-22. Kingdom Come. Unfortunately, probably won't happen. I'd like to say, "Happy Birthday Spider-man". He turns 58 this month with his 1st appearance being in Marvel's Amazing Fantasy # 15 back in August 1962. I think at 58, he should be able to "grow up" or at least be portrayed in his late 20's vs. being relaunched as a teenager all the time. Maybe I'll see an animated movie of him being married to MJ or Felicia Hardy The Black Cat. Where he mentors his kids into being Marvel's next generation of superheroes. How cool or awesome would that be! I probably will never see that storyline either. It'll be 2045, and he'll still be a teenager, not married, personally irresponsible, and unable to have a career. Sad when you think about it. However, the mantra will still be the same, "With great power there comes great responsibility" except when it comes to his personal life. I hope by then he's not working part time or full time at the Daily Bugle.

Re: first paragraph, no, Earth-12 and the DCAU are separate entities. Very similar, but not the same thing. Check out our “Will It Canon?” episode on Earth-12 for all the details.

@@dcauwatchtower I tired of being corrected by people who don't read the link I provided in my original comment. In "The 52 Multiverse" (if you took the time to scroll down to) it clearly states Earth-12 is the characters of the Batman Beyond Universe. I went one further to paste the excerpt from this link corresponding to Earth-12. "Characters and settings shown in the DC animated universe, such as the television series Batman Beyond[51]". Please read the link before your post a reply. You claimed Earth-12 and the DCAU are separate entities the last time I posted a comment on one of your videos. I'm not posting another comment on one of your videos again nor will I subscribe to your channel or put a like on any of your videos. You CLEARLY don't read the reference material provided by commentators. .

You missed out on some unmade episodes, with the scripts and synopsis out there online. The Midnight Hour, Mind Games, Vigil, Lo the Creeper! Razing Hellbane, Never Say Uncle... Some of these are on World's Finest Batman TAS while the first three can be found using script-o-rama and the wayback machine.

Now that they have a streaming service they could do another season with these ideas a la Clone Wars season 7.
