Use smooth wire on the bottom runs, barbed on top, barbed will keep the cows in, smooth wire on bottom will let the debris through with little to no fence damage.
@jimmyjohnstone58782 жыл бұрын
That is the way I do it too. The plain wire is cheaper here in UK too.

Fences are so important and often overlooked when purchasing land. We pick a section of our fence each year to replace and did 700' over the holiday. Isn't it amazing that when a tree falls, it tends to fall on the fence? 🙃
@allenferry96322 жыл бұрын
That answers the old question " If a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound?" The answer is no because it always falls on a fence to break its fall.

I think we refer to that as Murphy's Law 😒

@stephaniewilson39552 жыл бұрын
In the UK there is a tradition of digging a ditch (you call it a swale) and piling the soil up on the inside. Then a light fence (like your temporary fence) is put in while a hedge is planted. For cattle this would be blackthorn which is eventually laid to make stock-proof fencing that will literally stop an army. Given all that debris you could build a nice high mound which would catch debris the next time there is a flood.
@Finnswife32 жыл бұрын
Love the idea of this method.
@krislange11862 жыл бұрын
Here in the U.S. our version of that would be MULTIFLORA which was promoted by the government in the 1940's as "fenceless fencing". Unfortunately, it's seeds are scattered by birds eating the berries and it is a scourge (physically and mentally) for those having to deal with it!!
@margaretbedwell32112 жыл бұрын
Takes some real talent to build that living fence. Saw it done on a video about time back in the 1600's. It was beautiful when finished.

I showed hubs your one video with the t-post puller. He didn't want to spend money on one but I knew we had to move a few fences and posts around my garden beds(cuz well deer and bunnies just destroyed everything) I told him I would give him half of the cost and after using it, if he felt like it wasn't worth it, I would save and pay other half too. (It wasn't too expensive $46 total) We had to bump out a section of my fence to enclose my hoop house. I had him dig one while I used the puller to pull one. By my self. I ended up pulling 2 and he hadn't even got one out. He came and said okay let me try I think there are roots on this post lol nope pulled it right out like butter! And I used some old tow strapping and made a loop for the hook and it even pulled the pipes we used as posts (well we used what we had ) He then told me that it was indeed worth buying even if we never have to move t posts again. And took me out to dinner lol If we did more fencing id invest in that nifty post pounding thing instead of our 2 handled heavy post pounder -it works but geebers its heavy lol Great video

Ha! I'm fencing right now. 4 rolls sheep and goat, laid out string lines yesterday, I spray paint dots on ground to for post placement. Auger holes for wood post, set, and pound t posts today until it rains. Rain all week on and off here in east Texas. I have a creek too, so hard to fence, slopes, woods, rocks, etc. I'm 1.5 years into rehabbing an inherited farm/ranch. Getting rid of rust, rot, and nature. My uncle used trees as posts too. I don't think it's a good idea. Old and alone makes it hard, son and family may come next year, hope so. Love you guys and your place. Take care.

A good part of my enjoyment when watching your videos is getting to see your beautiful land. Until I was 62, I lived in piedmont NC, then had to move to Hawai'i Island. While it is quite beautiful, its beauty is completely different from NC. Today, while you were fixing the fence in the holler, I was imagining hand raking a nice big pile of the dried tree leaves up on the side of the hill beyond the fence and just lying down in them, snug, cloud watching, a maybe listening to some birds. Nice thought for me!

We had a wire puller that saved our hands when we repaired or replaced barb wire. Any leaning trees need to be cut or you'll be replacing fence after every storm. Another good thing near ditches or creeks is blackberry bushes. We trans planted hundreds of them along the creeks we had and it worked great and added benefit of fruit.
