There was an update for the master clutch in your 7140. From the factory they have a needle thrust bearing that tends to fail, and Case replaced that with a bronze thrust washer. If that needle bearing fails you'll get bearing needles in the hydraulic precleaner screen on the right side of the rear frame, the master clutch assy has excessive end-play and the teflon seals leak that charge the clutch piston. Putting it in reverse charges the oil circuit so the master clutch engages, and the end thrust on the gears is the opposite way from forward because they are helical cut gears. Even though the transmission itself was apart, that's a 6-speed powershift section. The master clutch and range section is in the rear frame.

In regards to your Magnum transmission problem: The first thing I would do is make absolutely sure the FNR cable is adjusted correctly and the inching cable (master clutch) cable is adjusted correctly. Try putting the shift lever in forward and then bang it to the left while in gear. If the transmission engages then the FNR cable needs centered. If none of that works then you need to put a gauge tree on the TCV and check clutch pressures. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out.

three things, cable adjustments, pressures, and charge accumulators on shift valve. likely the accumulators, they are junk, always were. book says 60 psi Nitrogen of course, dont be afraid to go by 5-8 lbs as needed. they can be overcharged also which is not good. cables and accumulators are the most common failure on the magnums. good luck, happy seeding season. nice to see some moisture! cheers,

20 year Case IH tech here. Your fnr cable needs adjusted. If you pay close attention the shift handle is not perfectly centered in the neutral slot when out of park. If you have a lot of play in your shift lever you may need to tighten it up. If the lever is difficult to move a new cable will resolve that. Probably a good idea to replace all 3 if it wasn't done during the rebuild. Clutch, speed, and fnr.

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Spring time is here. Busy busy time getting everything ready for spring field work. Wow, you have water all over the place. Never seen that before on your farm. Hopefully that is a good sign for moisture for growing crops. Got the duals on big bud and looking good. Now just need the injectors set on both tractors and ready to go. Never seen the older big bud used for field work. Think you said it will pull the land roller. Assume the other tractors will do the seeding then. Busy busy time coming. Hope the water in the fuel tank on the older big bud does not cause you any problems. Time will tell I guess. About it I guess. Thanks for updating us on all going on to start seeding and spring work. Busy time for all of you and Cody. You talked about the transmission on your red tractor. I never had one but from what Nick told us might be something on the clutches or possibly needs just an adjustment. Hopefully nothing too serious. Thanks for everything Welkers. As you start the 2023 year I am praying with my blessings that you have a good crop production year after last year. Bless all of you. Take care and be safe. Thanks. The Iowa Farm Boy.
