Its nice to have a good prediluted balance of coolant and distilled water. I keep a mixed jug of water wetter, distilled water, and coolant laying around to prevent overheating or if i need to top it off. too much of one or the other can cause overheating,freezing or corriosion, because it changes the boiling and freezing points.

I always wished these kind if comparisons used engine cylinder or head temp because the best coolant type/additive, which draws heat away from the engine most efficiently, will paradoxically heat up your coolant and coolant temp sensor the most. At least initially, until it’s improved heat transfer ability results in radiating heat out away from the coolant faster- which itself could be skewed by the other variables of thermostat and radiator fan.

What is the method of using coolant in a car that has been using ordinary water for a long time and would it be correct to put coolant in it? Our area is hot and humid. The temperature here is never less than ten degrees Celsius. It is generally said that a car that has been using water for a long time, if coolant is used in it, will cause rust and disturb the engine of the car.
@CarModsGarage
@CarModsGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm interesting. I would think that water causes rust and the outside temperature doesn't matter much since the engine and the water/coolant will get got anyways. That happened to me before when I took the old rusty coolant on my carbon Brazil and flush the system it took rusty spots that were covering or preventing water from leaking so it started leaking. It would leak eventually anyways. So in short water boils with lower temperature than coolant. Coolant has things in it that prevents rust. I can't tell what will happen to your car but if you been running for a long time anyways and it doesn't overheat there is no reason to replace. Check the color of the water though. I bet it is rusty
@dnegel9546

Technically water is actually better at cooling then coolant. The problem is water does not lubricate the internal parts. This is where an additive like "water wetter" comes into play. It makes the water cool even better while also adding all the lubrication you need. Alternative you can do a mix of more water then coolant. (70/30) or so. Most race cars use plain water. Since most tracks ban anything else. For safety reasons. (Clean up etc.)
@hellohello8556

If your running exsreme temps use distilled water with 33%coolant the coolant and distilled water will stop rust and cavitation and also the coolant will lubricate your water pump. Unless your car runs hot just go with 50%coolant and 50%distilled water.

@@CarModsGarage I guess the quest is " battery top up water " as distilled water. Answer is Yes, actually battery top up water is deionised water not distilled water. I think the coolant boils at much higher temps, like 160C, so your water is boiling at 100C, causing more pressure and wearing out the system. You should add some coolant. Coolant lubricates parts and boils at very high temps, so in normal use it will not boil. Also it prevent freezing unless you go lower than -20C or even -36C (depending on mix ratio with water).

Switching to coolant after 4 months the coolant is the same color so it sis not promote any rust. Car runs a bit cooler for longer. Water runs a lot cooler than 50-50 coolant mix. That’s simple science.

Can you tell me if water will damage my engine because i just did a “change” but changed coolant with water really because i’m broke lol
@CarModsGarage
@CarModsGarage 7 ай бұрын
@lukaweixler it won't damage but it will make It rust. I currently have distilled water running on my Supra. It's been a year now. In my case I was testing for leaks and didn't want spill coolant everywhere.

@@CarModsGarage so better destilled than regular? In the sunmer i will run water and in the winter, coolant i think it should be alright.

@@lukaweixler distilled water have no minerals so it be harder to form deposits of crap on your cooking system. At freezing temperatures it will freeze so coolant is better. Distilled water also looks like it will boil faster then tap water.

@CarModsGarage

I think it is the other way around. I had water for a couple of months while getting all set to run, wired and tuned. When I took the water out it was rusted already

@@buggaman2009 interesting. I'll research more. When on some drifting events they don't want people to use coolant because if or when crash and radiator leak then it would leak water not coolant. I've heard from a lot of drifters that water is bad because it runs hotter and gets rusty faster. The hotel part of it I could prove on thai video. The rust though... Lets research 🤔

@@rajajengkol oh right some drifting events they require cars to run water also. I am comparing and experimenting for daily cars.
